Granny, Paul, Tipper – January 1974

I always liked the photo above. There are a few reasons why.

I adore how small Paul is—the photo had to have been taken when he was only a couple of weeks old if that.

I like the little outfit I have on even though it looks dirty. I remember I had a purple outfit just like that orange one.

I like that the photo was taken at the little house we rented over in Martins Creek. You can tell how small it was by the fact that Paul’s crib is in the living room. Till this day we call it Sherlocks because that was the couple Granny and Pap rented it from.

I like the medicine bottle on the tv and the pan in the back ground. Paul was very sick with a staph infection when he was born and there was a strict regimen Granny had to do several times a day to get him well. Both items remind me of the love that was poured out for Paul and the prayers for his healing which were answered.

I love the photo of Steve on the wall behind Granny. I always thought it was neat that his photo made it like all of Granny’s children were there with her even though he wasn’t actually standing in the photo frame. I’m guessing Steve might have been the one taking the picture and if so then he was there with us, just on the other side of the camera.

I like the patchwork quilt hanging on the back of Paul’s crib. I still have that quilt along with the jade/brown bowl sitting on the tv.

The big wood cased stereo the pan is sitting on is in Granny’s living room today. I wish I had the curtains, if I did I’d hang them in my living room. I like Granny’s coiffed hair and her polyester print shirt.

Granny used to drive us crazy taking photos. She was bad for cutting off heads and getting things out of focus. Maybe that’s why we rebelled on her sometimes when she wanted to make our picture.

Of course as usual, Granny was right. What a treasure those photos are to us today. She knew what we as children couldn’t understand.

Granny knew time slips away from you so fast that before you know it you’re grown with a family of your own. She understood having photos that take you back to a time and place that you look back on fondly can warm your heart in a way that no amount of money ever could.

I’m thankful Granny took so many pictures of my brothers and me when we were little. She continued the practice with her grandchildren so there’s many photos of them as well. I’m even grateful for the ones that are out of focus, have someone’s head cut off, or were taken cattywampus. It gives us all something to smile about when we see them and reminds us of the genuine love the photographer (Granny) felt for us all.

If Granny feels up to it I will take her over to see her doctor in Blairsville today. I’m hopeful they can offer her some relief for the pain she’s been experiencing.

  1. Dear Miss Tipper, what a lovely tribute to Miss Louzine. She such a loving momma to y’all. A precious grandmother and mother-in-law. She has a great sense of humor and always seems most grateful for everything y’all do for her. Her love for her family shines through all that is going on. Sweet Miss Louzine.

  2. Praying sweet Granny gets some relief from her pain. We love all of you. Jan and Bernard from Louisiana❤️

  3. I love looking at family pictures even if it’s not my family. Like the one you posted of Granny, Paul and you. I know that had to bring back fond memories for you and Granny. I like looking back over all my photos that my parents took over the years of all us kids and grandkids. I have found many since they have passed of photos with people I nor my siblings know. I wish my mom or dad would have wrote names and dates on them so us kids could enjoy them even more. I write names dates and places or events on the back of my photos so when I pass my daughter and granddaughter will know the photos history. Hopefully they will enjoy looking at them when I and my husband are long gone. Praying for Granny to get relief from her pain at the doctor appointment.

  4. I enjoy reading the comments just about, if not as much as I do the daily post. While reading them today, all I could think about was how many good people there are in the world. We share many more similarities than differences (in most cases). We don’t hear that nearly as often as we should.
Tipper, Granny and you all have been on my mind and in my heart all week long. I feel like I know y’all and am truly praying for peace for all.
I love hearing about all the details in the picture. My favorite pictures turn out not to be the ones staged with a curated backdrop, but ones that show what life was actually like in that moment. They are little time machines. Such a treasure!

  5. Good advice to please write on the back of the pictures to identify who is in it. especially the older pictures. My 92 year old mother in law passed last month and there are so many pictures that no one has any idea who the people are, just guessing on some. I find that sad. I was lucky my grandmother had the foresight to write on as all her pictures. my the good Lord give you all strength and comfort at this time.

  6. Good afternoon, I haven’t commented much lately, but I want you to know that I am praying for Granny and your family. Just revel in the fact you have so many ‘friends’ praying for you and your entire family. Thank you for all of the work you put into your blog and videos. All of your work brings me much joy. God bless you!

  7. What a beautiful piece! So observant, so nicely written, so family! I’m my family’s genealogist, and I’m always bugging cousins for old photos and pointing out how much information they can hold, not always obvious at first glance. (Favorite example: I spotted the name of a business faintly reflected in a shop window, which gave away both the location and year!!) Your tour of everything captured in your remarkable keepsake photo is delightful, and a real lesson to anyone who wants to go treasure-hunting in old photos. Thank you for sharing that!!

  8. Praying for comfort for Granny and strength for all her family members. I am a scrapbooker and have many pictures left to me from family that have passed. I have a whole box of pictures with no names on them and I am so sorry I didn’t get info from my family that left me them. No one left that knows who they are. I am praying that when the time comes for Granny to go home that it will be a peaceful transition for her. I just love your whole family.

  9. Prayers for Granny! There’s nothing more precious than looking at family photos and remembering all those precious memories! We love you all!

  10. My heart is full for all of you. Prayers for Granny’s comfort and peace. You favor her so much as evident in this picture.

  11. Everyone is correct. Hospice came to the house and had supplies for whatever was needed, including pain relief.
Granny sure is blessed to have a loving family around her here and waiting for her out in the wild blue yonder. She will be home in either place.

  12. Hospice was so helpful for pain relief (as well as supplies and equipment) in my husbands last months. They could get right through to Dr. & Drug store for almost immediate relief‼️

I wish that quick response and link (without stress of travel ) for Granny and you❤️

  13. Praying for Granny and the whole family today. Hoping she is able to make the Dr visit and the Dr gives her pain meds to help ease her pain. Tipper, we love you and your family like our own and we will walk this walk with you through prayer and constant well wishes.

  14. Old photos are such precious memories. I will be praying that Granny can get to the doctor today and get something to help her feel more comfortable. God bless you Tipper and all of your family.

  15. Prayers for Granny to end her pain. Family pictures are real treasures. I am ancestry buff and especially love finding pictures of family long gone on other’s family trees. I have lots of pictures also.

  16. I pray for Granny daily for relief from discomfort and that she has days of happiness with great grand babies and crocheting. We all love her out here in you tube land.

  17. Prayers for Granny to get relief from pain.

I do hope Granny’s photos have been written on to say who, when, and where. I inherited boxes of photos from both sides of my family. I’m so glad I sat down with my Gram and asked her about many of the photos. However, there were plenty I just threw out because I couldn’t identify anyone, and there’s no one left to tell me.

  18. Prayers for Granny…God is watching over her. In watching the video about going to Copperhill really was interesting as I was surprised about how much Blue Ridge, or as I called it BR549 when I lived there, has changed in some ways and not in others….thanks for sharing as I do save all of your posts and I can go back and rewatch that one over and over…give Granny my love and hugs and love to the rest of your gang…

  19. Old photos are a visible way for our hearts to go back in time, and even more the recent photos help keep a loved one closer when they live far away. Tipper, you all will have a bounty of precious memories through these posts, your captures on your video channel, along with any ongoing photos taken and printed out for generations to come. Praying that Granny will be able to get to the doctor today and they will be agreeable to give her something to ease the pain. They do have options for times like this. It might mean one of you will need to give an injection every so often.

  20. You can’t buy a crib like that today, apparently for safety reasons. It reminds me of the crib my brother had and I used for both our girls.

  21. We have pounds, literally, of multigenerational photos and lots of color slides I shot before they “took my Kodachrome away.” There are scrapbooks full of family snapshots and several of just hunting and fishing pictures. Credit George Eastman, a high school dropout, for making the family snapshot, like Granny’s, a worldwide industry. He started it all in 1888 with his first “Kodak”–a name he made up. (His first company motto: “You push the button, we do the rest.”) The first of a long line of Brownies came out in 1900 and sold for $1. I was using a Brownie “Hawkeye” in the 1950s when I bought a 35 mm Kodak “Retinette” from a fellow soldier.

  22. I love this pic and your description! I was a sophomore in high school in ’74. I’m the one who takes all the pics for our family so as a result, we don’t have many pics of me (except for all my years of school pics from teaching middle school…LOL). I’m continuing prayers for ease of pain and comfort for Granny (please remind her how she is loved and cherished by so many even tho’ we’ve not yet met), prayers for y’all, too, as you tend to her. Your family is like mine…you’ve been through so much in the last several years. So much love to you all from SC, Jane

  23. My heart hurts for Granny, you Tipper and the rest of the family. I have been praying that she will not suffer. I too, like Carla was a nurse for forty plus years and saw many terminal patients. Some of their doctors let them suffer needlessly but that doesn’t need to happen. If the family is insistent upon them, the docs, giving their loved one enough pain medication to prevent them from suffering, they usually listen to them. I hope Granny feels well enough to see her doctor so he can prescribe something. The picture above of her when you were young sure looks like you now, Tipper. God bless Granny.

  24. Recently I went through old pictures, writing names, dates and location. Hopefully will help the younger generation!!

Prayers for strength today. Isaiah 43:2.

  25. My old family pictures are so very precious to me and like you said they warm my heart every time I look at them. Have been praying for Granny and that she would be able to go to the doctor.

  26. I’m praying that Granny feels like going t the doctor today. I love how she looks so much like you in the photo. I love how Corie and Katie look just like her and you as well. I hope that you all have a blessed day. I love Y’all.

  27. My daughter Penny had a green and also a purple outfit just like the outfit you were wearing. I think it came from Sears and Roebuck.

  28. Praying for Granny and all of you at this time. The girls video of singing hymns with granny touched my heart. Love and peaceful prayers to you.

  29. At today’s Awake America Murphy Prayer Meeting we will lift Granny up in prayer and also all that know her and.love her. I am praying that the doctor today can give het something to ease her pain. Of course the Great Physician is always there beside her even in her pain. May God bless you and your wonderful family.

  30. Oh, that picture & the story behind it is just as precious as the ones in the picture. I reckon you could say Steve “photo bombed” that picture. I hope Granny is up to going to the Dr today & they can get her pain under control. Safe travels & continued Prayers for y’all.

  31. Pictures are so wonderful to have. I’m glad you have many to look at and treasure. Praying for your Mama and the entire family. I definitely hope she can get something for the pain, so she can enjoy the time she has instead of hurting. Sending lots of love.

  32. Praying for Granny to find comfort from her pain. I also love looking at old pictures. I just wish that my family had put names on the back of the photos. Prayers for everyone in Brasstown. My husband visited there several years ago. We hope to return in the future. We watch all your videos!

  33. Prayers Granny gives me respect for old people. Wonderful lady she has blessed me through youtube. Please tell her. I appreciate her and you all.

  34. My mother was definitely a picture taker. We have loads of pictures she and my grandfather made. Very few of her actually. She has been gone for 47 years now and I love to look at the few we have of her. Tipper my heart aches for y’all right now. I lost my mother to breast cancer. Keep taking care of Granny like you do and you and your brothers do and there will be no regrets. Love y’all like family. for Granny.

  35. I forgot to mention, I am praying for Granny, Norman and the other members that have asked for pray. I am like Allen, Tipper, her family and the other members of the BP&A feel like family.

  36. I love old photos too Tipper. My mama has a big box full of them that we sometimes sit around and go through and reminisce…and that’s just the leftovers after she went through a scrapbooking phase years ago. We like to look through those photo books too.
Prayers for granny as always and y’all too!

  37. My wife liked to take pictures of our children and grandchildren, she has boxes full of pictures. I do not like having my picture taken and despise having a camera stuck in my face before first being asked if it is ok to take my picture. We had a lady at our church that would make pictures when just about anything was going on. She has pictures of many of the old members that are no longer with us and pictures of many of today’s older members when they were children involved in children’s church activities. This lady is now in an assisted living home and now no one else takes pictures at church like she did. She is now 101 years old!

Nancy contact me about you wanting black walnuts, I picked some up yesterday if you still want them.

  38. I am praying for Granny. I hope she feels like going to the doctor and that he will prescribe something for her pain. In this day & time, there is no reason for loved ones to have to suffer in pain. I’m sure they
can give her something to make her more comfortable. Praying for the entire family. Hugs!

  39. YES!! Please insist they prescribe pain meds, there’s so many these days and at this point, there’s nothing to be gained by suffering thru pain. It’s a time in life that she can be comfortable and restful. Just my opinion, retired nurse with a bit of oncology experience. Take care!

  40. I pray Granny feels up to going to the doctor today and that they can provide her some relief from her pain. I love to look at old photos and see the way our lives have changed…from the furniture to the clothes to the hairdos…it’s always so fun to look back. I will pray for you Tipper, I can tell you are a little sad.

  41. Old photos are definitely cherished memories. I continue to pray for Granny and all the family. She and each of you are very precious people and seem like family members to me.
