Granny and Tipper at Doctor office

After talking with her oncologist yesterday, Granny made the decision to continue with a maintenance regimen of treatment and forego the surgery for now.

Both the surgeon and the oncologist agreed if Granny was 20 years younger they would encourage her to have the surgery, but at 83 (soon to be 84 in March) with a mechanical heart valve that is past its prime and a few other health issues the decision had to be left up to Granny.

We all, including the oncologist, feel good about Granny’s decision. Since it’s the same medication she took with her radiation treatments I’m hopeful there won’t be any surprise side effects.

She is still feeling good. In typical Granny fashion she’s already looking toward next Christmas and has been crocheting a new Christmas jacket for herself. She’s also been making the sweetest little outfits for her great grandsons who will be born this year. Chatter and Chitter’s boys will bring Granny’s total of great grands to seven—three girls and four boys.

Thank you for all the prayers and love you’ve shown Granny, and us, through this entire process!!

  1. That sounds like a wise decision. It’s such good news that the treatment was effective enough that she can use a non-invasive treatment to maintain what was achieved. I’ll still pray for continued health and healing. ❤️ I love the jacket she’s wearing. Are those beautiful buttons wooden? I wonder if Katie could make buttons out of certain rocks. The knitting/crocheting community loves unique and beautiful buttons.

  2. Awww…. sweet Granny, I’m so happy you made the decision that suits you best. Lord have mercy those great grand babies are gonna be so loved and spoiled. I can’t wait to see what she crochets for them for Christmas. Continued prayers for you all.

Praying for Granny I feel she made the right decision and I know God will help her through this!
My husband has had a lot of problems with his esophagus closing up he gets choked real easy when eating so the surgeon did a scope and stretched his esphsophagus but does not think it will last. They want him to have surgery so he has to decide whether to do this or not. He is 81 and it’s a big decision but we are just praying about it so he will know what to do.
I am also expecting my first grandson coming in June. I already have 7 granddaughters and had just about given up on getting a grandson. We are excited about that.
I wish I could crochet like Granny to be able to make a outfit or blanket for the new baby! She does beautiful work!
Say a prayer for my husband!
    Love you all!
    Joanna

I have faith that HE still does miracles every day. She is such a sweet lady. I hope you get the next snow that hits! We had 10 inches and -13 degrees! I’m over it! lol love your videos! Keep ‘em coming! Oh yea, you guys call questionable people YaHoos, we call them Yahoos (long a) in Eastern KY. ❤️

  11. I’m glad Granny is at peace with her decision. I praise God she’s still feeling ok and will continue to pray! She’s so sweet thinking of others even after what she’s going through. Her great-grandchildren and whole family are certainly blessed. 🙂

    1. Such beautiful smiles!! Granny & Tipper, they both look like rays of sunshine and a breath of fresh air. I’m sure Granny made the right decision.

  12. Those are two of the most beautiful and peaceful smiles that I’ve seen in a long time. Your picture had a strange effect on me. When it appeared on my screen I felt like a big puff of gentle air struck me all over. There is so much love coming from the two of you.

  13. Granny, this is great news!!! You made a good decision.
Granny, I never knew any of my grandparents but when I discover Tippet’s blog and saw, you became My Granny. You are what I would have wanted from a grandma. I adopted you without your permission. I hope you don’t mind. You are so precious to me. I am crying as I am typing this note. May God bless you always and keep you under his care. I will continue to pray for you daily . What a courageous grandma!!

  14. Prayers for sweet Granny! Prayers for all the Wilson and Pressley family. We all need to find joy in each and everyday!

  18. I’m happy to hear this good news for Granny. She is a strong woman. I pray God will continue to comfort and bless her and all of you in this decision. This is a great picture of both of you, Tipper. Thank you for sharing the news and the picture.

  19. Love Granny. She’s looking great. In these situations we don’t need to second guess someone’s decision just support and love them. At her age I believe I would decide the same.

    1. Granny Wilson you’re a very strong brave lady God will protect and keep you love your Christmas sweater enjoyed your great grandsons they are wait to meet this year I will keep praying for and your family Luck are treatments and surgery

  20. Not much more can be said than has been as I join your readers saying I’m so glad she was able to make that decision and feel good about it. Every case is different. Now she has a mission and purpose to get ready for those babies. And spring with its flowers to tend is just around the corner!

  21. Glad for her that she now has a clear path forward. Psalm 118:24; 113:3. That is a wonderful picture of the two of you and the sweaters are beautiful!

  22. Oh, you & Granny look glowing in the picture! I’m glad Granny made the right decision-she is a wise woman. I will continue to pray for Granny & I think her positive nature will go a long way. I saw one commenter mentioned oxygenized water-I was in Kroger before the pandemic & a young girl was getting oxygenized jug water for her Mom who had cancer. She didn’t have enough money, so I gave her money to get what she needed. Might be worth researching this & also asking Granny’s Dr about it.

  23. Thank you sharing news of Granny’s decision with us. I am genuinely grateful for how you both exemplify clear-eyed optimism. I look forward to seeing pictures of Granny with her newest great grandsons in the outfits she made for them along with more videos of Paul and her singing together. We shall continue to pray for Granny while trusting all will be well. As the song reminded us, “The Lord will send his love to take the clouds away.”

  24. May God continue to bless you, Miss Louzine. I imagine you feel peace and relief now that you’ve made your decision about your care – and it seems to be a good one.

I feel that the way a person has lived their life is reflected on their faces. Sometimes I’m completely wrong, of course, but I don’t think so in your case. Your sweetness of expression and quick and easy smile seems to reveal a woman at peace with herself and secure in her Lord. You’ve walked the path of your life in faith and hand-in-hand with a good and Godly man. You’ve loved each other, your families and your friends and neighbors and have been an example of God’s teachings. Generous. Humble. Caring. Loving. Devout. Hard-working.

I know you only through Tipper’s generously sharing you (and Pap) with us but I so wish – like many others have said – that I could just sit and visit with you in person.

God bless you and keep you strong. (And thank you, Tipper.)

  25. Granny has a fan club, and I think a big one. That has been plain for awhile. From things I’ve read recently, it seems ‘managing’ instead of ‘fixing’ is gaining favor as the better approach for many. We can’t have eternal life here (and who would want it?) but the good Lord knows how to give us a good old age. Being able, and willing, to be a partner with Him in how that goes is a great blessing in itself and that reliance on Him will be blessed.

  26. Tipper – thank you for sharing that Granny has made her choice – prayers will continue to be covering her as she moves forward with the maintenance regimen. Her positive outlook alone will certainly help her stay strong and overcome. May our dear Lord continue to guide and keep each one of you.

  27. Prayers for Granny while she continues her medication. Seems like a pragmatic decision. Lovely photograph of the two of you. I so enjoy when she and Paul sing together.

  28. Y’all both look so beautiful this pic! I’m glad the decision has been made and everyone is pleased with it. Please know I will continue to pray for Granny as she goes through her maintainance meds. (and the rest of the family as well). It’s so great to know The Great Physician is in control. Much love from SC ❤️ Jane

  29. Great picture of you both. Granny is a strong woman and she made the best decision for her. She has such a positive attitude and looking forward to her newest grandsons and Christmas already. She is one blessed woman! Prayers will continue for Granny and all your family.

  30. Bless your heart Mrs. Pressley! That’s very tough. My family and I will keep you Mr. Pressley, Granny and the The Theologian Twins in prayer. Praying that God’s will be done and that He be glorified in whatever happens.

My grandma is 83 and she pulled through Breast Cancer a few years ago. Maybe not the same situation but I hope you and your family can experience the Peace that Only comes from God whatever the outcome.

    Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses (transcends) all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

  31. So good to know Granny has been given good information from the doctors and she could make her decision. I am praying all goes well for her and your family. I know she is chomping at the bit to get on with her crocheting projects; after all, she is the Queen of Crochet.

  32. THIS IS GREAT NEWS!! Granny is an inspiration and a role model to all of us. She is such an amazing person and I truly hope she feels how much she is loved and appreciated. We will continue to keep her in our prayers! God bless her and her family!

  33. So happy a decision was made, and Granny can now look forward to all of the projects she’s working on with joy and also the excitement of the new great grandsons that will be arriving this year. Prayers for the medication to continue to do its job and prayers for all of the family.

  34. Tipper, thank you for sharing. What a blessing you and your family are to Granny as she is to you. Praying for limited side effects as the treatment gives her effective control of the tumor. “You have clothed me with strength for the battle.” Psalm 18:39a

  35. Of course, her maintenance regimen will include prayers from her extended family here on the Blind Pig & The Acorn. You can bet I will be asking the Lord to bless Granny every day, as we know He helped her make the smart decision and He will see her through any obstacles along the way.

  36. Continued prayers for Granny. She is such an amazing lady! We could all learn so much from her and how she has handled adversity with such peace and strength. Her walk with the Lord really shines through.

  37. I am so happy that Granny has made her decision regarding her cancer treatment & now can get busy living and doing all the things she loves to do. I love those sweater ya’ll are wearing & I know she has enjoyed crocheting for the new babies. Sending love & hugs to Granny & asking God to continue to Bless Granny & all of you!

  38. Oh dear granny….your smile in this picture says it all–you are full of The Lord inside and out, you trust Him, you embrace your life on earth as a participant and are planting seeds of faith and love in everything you do…your life has made an impact on more people than you will ever know and I look forward to meeting you one day in Glory. I cant wait to see pictures of you with your two great grandsons 🙂

  39. When it comes to doctors and medicines, less is more. The body is pretty amazing putting itself right. It isn’t cheap, but Granny should be drinking double-oxygenated water. Cancers hate oxygen.

  40. Granny we love you so! You are a blessing to your family.

You are a very wise woman.
You continue to make good decisions as you know your body & have prayed for God’s council.

The pictures of you & Tipper in your sweaters are so pretty. Keep up your beautiful creations.

Your new “Greats” will be so blessed to have you in their lives. As are all who love you ❤️

  41. So happy you shared the sweet picture of you and your mother. She is an inspiration to all of us. Her faith and attitude speak volumes about her life and her love for family. You are blessed with a wonderful mother as I was. Treasure your time together and God bless you.

  42. Such out pouring of love for Granny and the girls and all of you! This is one of the many reasons I cherish your blog and vlog so much. We have formed our own little (and growing) BPA family and we share how much we care. Tipper, I thank God for finding your blog. It makes me remember so many good memories and helps when days are not great. Love and prayers to Granny and the Little Mamas and all of you!

  43. Prayers for Granny and your entire family. What a wonderful picture!!! Love the sweaters which I’m sure Granny made.

  44. I will continue praying for Granny and all those who love and care about her. She is just precious and always reminds me of my mama.

  45. Granny’s always know what’s best! Sending continued prayers of healing her way—and for all of you, too, as she continues her healing journey! Having followed along here and on YouTube for a little while now, she is clearly such a precious person and reminds me a lot of my own Granny. Mothers and Grandmothers no matter their given title and their love are one of God’s greatest gifts on Earth!

  46. Prayers will continue for Granny and all of her family. Such a positive smile she has. Crochet on!!! She is a wonderful example of living life to the fullest.

  47. I love this photo. My goodness our lives are so similar with our mother’s. I pray everything goes well for all. your mom reminds me of mine with her strong will to live, being positive and her sweet smile. Enjoy every moment with her and may God continue to bless you all.

  48. Tipper, I am just so happy for Granny, and all of you that a decision has been made. Now, she can relax, live her life, and crochet away! It is so sweet that she’s already looking forward to next Christmas. I can’t wait to see her sweater and the baby outfits. All this cold and snow we have had has really put me in the crocheting mood too. I love being stuck inside and crocheting away. I am making very small stuffies for all my grandkids for Valentine’s Day. I have made a turtle, a wolf, a deer, a cow and a puppy. I have one more to make, and it’s gonna be a frog. Lol. I ask them all what their favorite animal is and this was the result of my little survey—except the frog, and that was my choice for the baby. Oh, if I could just sit with Granny on the couch and talk and crochet all day!
Lots of prayers for you all.

  49. Prayers continue for Granny and all of you Tipper! God is so Good and will continue to Bless you!

Granny’s sweater in the picture is beautiful, did she also make the gorgeous sweater you are wearing? She is so very talented!

  50. Sending prayers and love to Granny and you all too! She is a strong and beautiful lady and has a positive attitude and that really helps when going through these difficult times. I know she has a lot of things to do she is always busy and thinking of others . And she is very fortunate and blessed to have such a loving and caring family to support her. I know she is anxious to see her new grandsons!

  51. We continue to pray for Granny. Her 83 years have taught her to live for today and let tomorrow take care of itself. God bless Granny.

  52. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

  53. Thanks for the update on Granny. Glad to hear she and her health care team have made a decision they all agree on. It’s hard to have peace when you have such a big decision weighing on you everyday. Prayers for her, as well as you and yours, will continue. That’s a great picture of you guys, a precious Mother and her loving daughter!

  54. Granny, you are a beloved daughter!
Sending powerful prayers for healing, and energy to keep up with your crocheting. Hands to work, hearts to God.

  55. God bless her. My prayers are with her and you all. She looks like she is doing good. The treatments must be working. Send her my love.

  56. I’m so happy to have the privilege and honor to pray for such a beautiful woman of faith. Granny reminds me so much of my own late grandmother’s, it’s like I’m praying for them. Your grand boys will be such a blessing to her and your entire family. Wishing you peace and happiness now and always.

  57. I’m so thankful for this news. I will continue to pray for her health, wellness, and strength! With her faith in God, and her positive attitude, she will do well. I continue to hold all of you in prayer. God bless you and yours!❤❤

  58. My mother had to make this same decision after diagnosed with breast cancer. She did very well with the initial radiation and follow up care. She lived an additional 15 years with no relapse. Granny is a beautiful and wise lady. I would like seeing more of her on YouTube channel

  59. She is a Granny to us all. Granny you are an example to me. You have showed me how to live life and age with grace and dignity. I hope to follow your example.

  60. Yipppeeee Granny. The wonderful part is that I am sure you guys have done a little praying about the matter and with God in control, who can doubt this young whipper snapper has made the best decision. The fact that her doctors agree with her is another plus. Speaking of crocheting…we laughingly call it ‘crutching’, I do with she would display her wares so that we might purchase her talented items. But that is another conversation. It is a balmy 54 degrees this fine Wednesday morning here in upstate Florida and knowing you want snow, I do pray that the Lord keeps that stuff up there, should you be Blessed with it. Stay well, warm and safe and know that I am praying for Granny and you guys.

  61. I just love her. She is beautiful, sings like an angel, and she makes the most beautiful sweaters I’ve ever seen–especially the one she wore for the above photograph. I am so happy and relieved with her decision as it is the safest way to move forward. I can’t wait for her to meet her great grandsons!! Honestly, what a blessing to have both your girls bringing you and Matt grandsons at nearly the same time.

  62. What a sweet brave soldier Granny is! She sets the tone and standard for the family. It’s a privilege to lift her, and all of you up in prayer.

  63. She is so precious! We continue prayers for Granny and all y’all! I am so glad she is feeling good!
    God bless all y’all!!

  64. I’m so glad that a decision has been made & that Granny can now move on to bigger & better things in 2024. Big decisions always weigh heavy & am happy that the burden of having to decide is now over. Prayers for Granny as she continues her treatments. Hugs!

  65. God bless Granny, bless her decision Lord with healing and health, I ask in Jesus name Thank you God for blessing Granny, Anen

  66. I can fully understand her decision. One knows one’s own body and surgery is always stressful. She is in my thoughts and prayers.
