  1. Randy, my true name is Patricia Sue. My family calls me Sue, my husband calls me Patti (from school days) and as an adult my work buddies call me Pat. When my daughter was born, I wanted a simple name, so I named her Ann.
The bottle sprinklers did have cork around them to seal the bottle. Most of the clothes in the late fifties were made of cotton and so to help press out the wrinkles the sprinklers were used. When the mixed materials (polyester/cotton) arrived, the sprinklers weren’t used as much and eventually disappeared.
We are not old and rusty just experienced with life. One of these days the Lord will give us new bodies.

  2. My mother had one of those sprinkler things but she didn’t use it. She would put water in a bowl and dip her fingertips in it and then flick it onto the clothes. She said it gave her more control.

    1. Spring has sprung and Fall has fell. Soon Summer will be here as hot as . . . . a firecracker!
      Had to keep it PG.

  5. I enjoyed your video last night. With the greening up, everything looked beautiful! Matt and Corie did a super job with the cabbage. I know it did you so much good to get to be outside and just take it all in. Prayers for Granny and all of you. Thanks for sharing!!

  6. Two things, my son and I have a collection of Coleman lanterns, stoves and some other items, almost all before 1985 back to the early 1900’s. We have two Coleman irons in our collections that burn Coleman fuel to heat them. The other, the cicadas are really making a lot of noise around my home this week. When I first heard them, I thought I had a water leak outside in my water line before I realized what it was.

  7. I watched your green up last evening and was so happy for you to be home for a refresh. I continue to pray for Granny and all of you! God bless you and yours❤❤

  8. Hi Miss Tipper. What a lovely visit to your little Paradise on the mountain. All the greenery seems so calming to so many. I love spring. We have been seeing azaleas, and other blooms, for several weeks, here in southern Mississippi, along with some greening too. God is so generous with His beautiful landscapes. Truly glad you are getting some rest at home, that Granny has some improvement and could possibly get home soon to enjoy this beautiful springtime. Take care my friend, giving love and prayers to you all. Matt, Corey, Austin and Katie are doing a great job, holding down the fort while you, Paul and Steve are standing with your Momma. God bless and keep you all.

  9. I’m glad your mother is recuperating and hopefully all of you will be home soon. Continued prayers for all.

  10. I watched the video last night on the green up around your house. All the trees, plants and garden have grow so much in the last few weeks. I’m so thankful Granny is doing better. Prayers continue for Granny and all the family. Love and hugs to you all.

  11. Still waiting for a complete green up here on the mountain. As I walked today, I could see more wisps of green than yesterday and there is still a clear line of brown/green on Scaly Mountain. However, it’s happening and it makes my heart sing. Continued prayers for Granny and all of your family. God bless & keep all of you safe.

  12. Appomattox county Viriginia has greened up too. Our area looks about like where you are, Tipper. The azaleas are in full bloom and the peonies are almost ready to open up. We had a freeze a couple of days ago and I had been going to plant a few tomato plants but I’m glad I didn’t. My husband and I are going to plant some tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers today or tomorrow. Hope you got some rest and glad to hear Granny is doing well.

  13. It’s just a beautiful time of year with greening up. I’m praying you’ve been able to rest and get a few things accomplished when you’re home. I also pray you’ve been or will soon be able to get to the garden as well! Now if it can “globally warm” on a tiny tract in WV, that will be just dandy! Lol have a great day Tipper and granny!!! You’re thought of and prayed over so that ought to bring you some cheer!

  14. I watched your video last night. you looked so happy to be home. your tour was so nice. Prayers for you all!

  15. I wake up each morning excited to see what beautiful changes have happened outside. Spring is truly my favorite of all the seasons.

I’m continuing to pray for Granny and the family.

  16. I am glad Granny is doing well enough for you to sorta catch your breath. It has been greening up for several weeks in my neck of the woods but got down to 40 degrees for two nights a few days ago. I have been reading a lot of the older posts, I have just now read one called Mamaw’s Sprinkler, I remember Mother having a sprinkler just like the one in the picture that she would stick in a coke bottle to sprinkle her clothes with when ironing. Would the women sometimes add starch to the water? Anyone remember the aluminum egg shape balls or containers to put the loose tea grounds in before today’s tea bags.

    1. Randy, I’m 75 yo and I remember using a pop bottle with a sprinkler on the end. We also used to put the clothes in the refrigerator a while to moisten them for ironing.

      1. Is your true name Patricia? One of my dearest friends is named Patricia but always gets called Tricia by everyone that knows her. I had forgot about it but I remember Mother putting clothes in the refrigerator. Didn’t those bottle sprinklers have cork around them to seal the bottle to keep them from leaking?
By the way, I am not far behind you, I am 70 years old but I am not getting better with time-I am just old and rusty.

      2. My mother had one of those sprinkler things but she didn’t use it. She would put water in a bowl and dip her fingertips in it and then flick it onto the clothes. She said it gave her more control.

    2. I remember all those gadgets! My Mom used the sprinkler and I’m pretty sure she put starch in some. My Mother-in-law used the metal egg balls as she liked loose leaf Earl Gray Tea! Blessings
