crocheted baby clothes

Adorable crocheted pants, sweater, and hat set & crocheted baseball pants and hat—all made by Granny

Granny has finished her first two weeks of treatment in pill form and is now on her seven days off. At the end of the seven days she’ll start another two weeks of treatment. This pattern will continue for the foreseeable future.

So far Granny is doing good with the treatment. I was hoping she would tolerate it well since she’d already taken one regimen of it along with her radiation treatments last fall. Hopefully she will continue to do well and the treatments will help her hold what’s she’s got against the cancer.

Granny has been busy crocheting. She’s made the most adorable outfits for Chitter and Chatter’s baby boys. In addition to that she’s been working on a set of ponchos for her three great granddaughters. And before those projects she finished a new Christmas coat, hat, and purse for herself.

Since Paul is retired, Granny has got to go loafering a whole lot more and she is really enjoying that.

She says it’s too early for her to think about gardening just yet, but she’s hoping for a good crop of green beans and is cheering us on with our endeavors so that she can share in the bounty of the corn we plan to grow.

Thank you for all the prayers and love you have showered Granny with—we are all very grateful for you and the way you’ve lifted Granny’s spirits and improved her health.

  1. So glad to hear Granny is doing well and is busy keeping babies supplied with with her special made with love hand made gifts, I can see she enjoys so much doing that. Many years ago my mother in-law made my new babies crocheted coming home from the hospital blankets (shell and granny squared pattern)and when toddlers, made little corduroy overalls with pieces of material from the baby’s father’s baby clothes she had kept appliqued onto them herself of course would be handed down to my grandchildren.

I kept things like locks of the babies hair and baby teeth.

Now a days, turns out doctors can use those teeth for the stem cells in them to grow new teeth in the mouth they came out of.
I put them in their baby books when they were babies and gave books to them many years later after they adults.

The expectation of new little ones coming into a family always lifts the spirit and brings joy to the heart and too,in her case can help with healing as does music as it soothes and lifts the soul.

Loafering?never heard it called that but I have done quite bit of that myself, took a lot of unknown to me backroads.. love it.

Glad Granny has her son available to take her on those jaunts; it’s good to get out and go and see the sights.

May the Lord bless and keep you all.

  2. I’m so glad to hear that Granny is doing so well! It makes my heart happy. She and the rest of the Blind Pig family are in my prayers.

  3. Granny reminds me so much of my granny Beth. She was always crocheting too. I got back into it about a year ago but I lose interest so fast! I wish I could stay focused on completing one project before rushing off to try something else. I’ve got 3 half finished crochet projects right now lol. Hope the treatment continues to do well for granny and she gets to do all the loaferin she can stand

    1. All my love you all. Give granny my love.

I am crocheting a blanket now and honestly as long as I am taking I will be 100 years old

  4. Hello Tipper and fellow followers! I am just thrilled Granny is doing so well!! As a cancer victim myself, I know how important attitude is in winning the battle. Granny has such an uplifting, positive attitude, she’ll do well. Her handiwork is just amazing, and obviously anyone receiving her hand made creations is truly blessed! Her great grandsons arriving soon will be a gift for Granny! I am on a pill treatment myself. I’m on two weeks and off two weeks. That’s my cycle. It’s been working great so far for four years. I hope Granny is as lucky! Much love to you and your entire family, Tipper!

  5. Those little outfits are darling but they will be especially darling when those two sweet babies wear them. Granny is so productive and the way she shares her talents is so inspiring. Please give her a big hug from me.

  6. She amazes me. Nothing gonna keep Granny down. I’m so glad she can do what she loves. She did a wonderful job on those outfits. So pretty. The lady I take care of has been battling breadt cancer for 2 yrs. I don’t know if it’s the same.or not but she takes her pills like 7 days , and 7 off. That’s one of them she does like that and the other one she takes every day. She also is doing good. She is 95. She’s like Granny, a true trooper.

  7. Tipper
So glad to hear Granny is doing well. The outfits she crocheted are so sweet!
    Will keep praying for her.
I have ordered some seeds and am getting excited for Spring to get outside and plant my garden.
That is enjoyment for me. I just love fresh green beans and like your husband the fresh tomatoes for BLTs or just a tomatoes sandwich.
Take care all and thank you for your prayers also!
    Joanna

  8. So glad that Granny is doing well with the treatments and that she is been busy with her crocheting. The outfits are adorable! Continued prayers for her and healing!!

  9. Well there’s nothing cuter than crocheted or knitted baby outfits, but a COAT?! I’ve knitted a lot of things but just the idea of a making myself a coat…well, my hat is off to Granny for sure! By the way, Tipper, I always think of your Dad when I’m setting up my trellis and I always think of Granny when I’m planting my pole beans, and I suppose I always will.

  10. So glad to hear that Granny is doing well and is able to get out & about. She does a professional job on her crochet projects. I know the girls are so pleased with the things she has made. I pray she will continue to hold her own.

  11. Sweet work for all those babies. I’m sure Granny is enjoying this. Thank God for how well Granny is doing. I’m sure her creativeness is helping her cope and recover with all that has been going on. Thank you Miss Wilson for your positive attitude and for encouraging us all to continue on. What a blessing you are too. Love y’all. Have a great weekend and Miss Tipper appreciate BP&A very much. Later friends.

  12. We have friends whose families have lived in the Blue Ridge mountains for generations. Many’s the time that they have invited us to go “loafer-ing”, pronounced “low fren”. This meant we’d jump in the car to ride through the mountains stopping wherever we “took a notion”. Very good times! So glad to hear this good news about Granny! May her treatment have limited side effects!! Blessings!

  13. so glad grannys doing well her crochet work is just awesome as well shes keeping busy so thats really good as well hope you are all keeping well and paul enjoying his retirement too wishing everyone all the best

  14. Great report! So happy to hear that Granny is doing well and being so productive! I know those grands and great grands are going to be so happy and warm. Granny is going to look sharp for next Christmas, too! Y’all have a great week! Much love from SC, Jane ❤️

  15. Often on a Sunday Dad would say, “Anybody going with me better git in the truck.” Mom would ask, “Where’re you going?” His response was usually, “Loafering.” We usually ended up visiting some of his uncles and aunts.

  16. So happy to hear from Granny and sounds like she is continuing to get along well with the treatments. She is staying busy as a bee with all her crocheting projects. The outfits are so adorable, and I know those ponchos will be just precious! Paul retired at a good time, and I know Granny is enjoying it as much as he is. Matt also retired at the perfect time too. I know my husband is enjoying every day since he retired. Yesterday, he got to go eat lunch with our granddaughter at school. Then he brought her here and we spent the afternoon together. She said, “Granddaddy I am so happy you finally retired.” It made his day. 🙂 Will continue to pray for Granny and all of you. Heading over to watch last night’s reading.

  17. Glad Granny is handling the treatment well, always praying for her.
Her crocheting is beautiful, she is a very talented lady.

  18. God bless Granny! Her crocheting is beautiful, just like its creator. I’m glad Paul is spending his time rippin and runnin with Granny. It’s something his career has kept him from doing so he needs to go loafin until he gets his belly full, as my mom would say.

  19. These little outfits are an example of the love of family and your family is a perfect example. Your mother crocheting special things for future family as well as for those present and herself has kept her with a purpose. I’m glad to hear she’s doing okay with her treatments, continuing to crochet and is able to go loafering with Paul. Spring is coming, my early jonquils are about to bloom and although I don’t grow a garden like you do it’s a time for all of us to look forward to new growth.
I appreciate your reading about the quilts. John Rice (he was called both names as well as just John) was a real character himself but stressed the stories behind the objects in his museum. I worked part-time for him 6 years in the early days of the museum development and learned so much. As you do, he emphasized how the people lived. It’s amazing that those people without the modern conveniences we have today, had the time to quilt, whether making simple quilts to keep their family warm while re-using clothing scraps or making those beautiful special quilts. There are so many objects he saved that show the creativity and ingenuity of the people in their everyday life just as you show in your posts. Thank you again for what you have done and continue to do.

  20. Thank you the wellness report on Granny. I was reading a 2020 comment that Granny needed her own Etsy store with all her crocheted items.

If I lived close to her I’d take her loafing ever where she wanted to go. We’d go to Walmart, put her in an electric cart and off to the yarn department and then to Chick-fil-A. I simply adore her.

Everyone have a great day. Continued prayers and blessings to all the family and my BP&A friends.

  21. WOW!!! Granny your crocheting is absolutely beautiful!!! I’ve kept you in my prayers and I know the Lord never fails us! As I’ve said before, you are a treasure to your family and I’m so happy for you.

  22. What a woman. Sure wish I could know and sit with her in real life but I am thankful to have “known” her and looked up to from afar. Praying she continues to feel well and her hands stay able and busy! I never have been able to get the hang of crochet but I keep trying.

  23. Those baby outfits are absolutely adorable! Granny does such beautiful work. I’m very thankful God has heard all our prayers for Granny in allowing her treatments to work so well. Glad to hear Paul is taking her a loafing, because that’s what she needs to keep up her mobility. Thank you for the update on Granny and prayers will continue for her and all your family.

  24. Granny is such a dear soul. I’m glad she is doing well and keeping busy. I hope she will feel up to doing more duets with Paul. I hope Paul is enjoying retirement. I really enjoy his updates and hope to see him do some interviewing. I think his guitar skills are amazing and I would enjoy hearing him just play as well as sing. Such talented wonderful folks.

  25. Paul wrote about Granny being a star of The Blind Pig & The Acorn and Celebrating Appalachia, and she surely is a bright light in the firmament of your family. I marvel at her creativity with crochet, singing—and song writing—talents, and love of green beans and gardening in her own special way. Thank you for blessing us with the story of Granny’s life journey and all the gifts she shares. God bless!

  26. Those are so cute! I’m so glad to hear how good she is doing. Charley’s been trying to get rid of a blood infection for the last month and has been in the hospital more than out lately. They’re putting in the most powerful antibiotics in him now that they have. Sure hope it works this time. He’s in good spirits tho and asked me to make some no bake cookies and bring them to him today. I’m off to make them now. I wish continued healing to Granny.

  27. How precious! oh show us her coat and purse, please.
Granny is always on my prayer list.
My hubby said he hopes y’all don’t get to big a garden, I told him unlike us, y’all have many hands to help. can’t wait to see what all comes in.

  28. The little baseball bats are the cutest things! Granny really gits things done! Wishing her all the best in her treatments.

  29. Oh, I just love your Mama’s strength and her spirit of living her life to its fullest. She continues her sweet, fulfilling hobby of crocheting treasured gifts to make her family happy—and her desire of a garden filled with glorious green beans. The outfits are adorable. I would love to see the Christmas outfit she made herself and the ponchos when she’s finished. Thank you so much Tipper, for keeping us informed. I know she will continue to be lifted up in prayer by all of us here on this blog—and I will continue to be in awe of her positive outlook!

  30. I am reminded of this verse:
MAT13:47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
because the BP&A is a form of “net” that interconnects us all both to give and receive. Prayers and well- wishes for Granny is one example. To me the whole is a blessed thing to think about.

  31. I am glad to hear Granny is holding up well to the treatments. There is not enough money in the world to pay for the love that went into those two outfits. I will continue to pray for Granny. Like Granny, I love fresh green beans, especially if cooked with a chunk of country ham or ham bone and small fresh arsh potatoes and have a slab of cornbread to eat along with them. It seems like around here, deer love everything I try to grow as well as I do! The only thing I have heard of them not eating is my neighbors extremely hot pepper.

I had another coworker to die this week, about 8 in the last couple of months. My next door neighbor was also put into Hospital Hospice yesterday. This usually means only a very short time. It is his heart, not cancer. Please pray for these families.

  32. Having purpose is key to a life well lived and healing. Granny’s gifts will be talked about for generations. Her time and talents will surely be cherished.

  33. So happy that so many prayers have been answered for Granny! Her crochet work is a testimony of how well she’s doing! I know that you are all making her as happy as possible. I’m sure she feels very rich in family. You have many people who keep you in their hearts. That’s awesome to think about. So many people that you haven’t even met who love and care about your family! I’m sure those feelings are reciprocated by all of you as well. We should all just rejoice in every day that we have, regardless of whatever may be going on. Big love!~Rita

  34. Glad Granny is doing so well. Sure wish I had her here to teach me how to crochet. Now that I have bone on bone thumb osteoarthritis it may be a little painful to learn. Does Granny have any hand arthritis?

      1. Tipper,
Elated that Granny is doing so good!
All those beautiful baby outfits she has crocheted tells us that Granny. Is doing great!! Continue to pray for her and your family. Please pray for my sister who is fighting this terrible cancer. She had surgery, Chemo antibiotic d in s about to start Radiation. God ‘s blessings to you and your family. Hilary. H

    1. Paula, I sympathize with you. I inherited arthritis from my mother’s family and was diagnosed in my 20’s with arthritis and told by the time I reached my 60’s I would be having a lot of problems. This doctor knew my mother and her family real well and knew what he was talking about with me. Although I have it in my hands, it effects my knees, and ankles more. I also have some bad disc in my back. I should have been more careful when I chose my parents! The truth is no one has had better parents and loved their children than mine love me.

  35. Tipper, love the crocheted baby outfits for Chitter and Chatter’s baby boys. They are so adorable. Just wished that we could see a tad bit of Granny crocheting some of her lovely memories. So very thrilled that Granny has been able to endure the pill treatments. Praise the Lord.
Will continue to say prayers for Granny. God bless the Wilson and Pressley families.

  36. Oh what sweet and wonderful news about Granny!!! I watched Chitter and Chatter’s recent video where they opened their gift boxes from Granny. I know you all are beyond excited about the birth of your two grandsons as well as the new gardening year ahead…!!! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!!

  37. Praying for your granny. My Mother spent many hours chrocheting. She did that for her kids and grandkids and to pass the time.

  38. Those crocheted tiny items are the most adorable pieces of clothes I’ve ever seen and when you add Granny’s LOVE knitted right into every knot, those clothes could not be purchased with gold! I think Granny Louzine is a National Treasure and I will take this moment to ask our Sweetest Savior to bless and heal her in Jesus’ name! Tipper, if a person had all the money in the world they could not buy the love, talent, and goodness your family has been blessed with and shares with us! You’ve got it GOING ON, Y’all!!!

  39. Thanks so much for the update on Granny. I just love the outfits pictured. Oh my gosh Granny you are the best. I can’t wait to see you in your Christmas outfit!!

  40. The wonderful expression “go loafering” is new to me. I do it a lot, but just didn’t know the word to describe it!☺️ Good for Granny and good for Paul!!!

  41. Granny’s talents are simply unending. To me, her red and green crocheted sweater is beyond beautiful. I cannot wait to see pictures of her in her new Christmas coat, hat and new purse. The outfits for the new babies are so beautiful, and I cannot wait to see those boys wearing them! And you, Tipper, wearing the green sweater vest is another example of her incredible talents. Green is my favorite color, so I always admire your sweater as well. I can’t wait to hear her and Paul singing together again. May God continue to bless you all.

  42. Im glad Paul could retire and take off loafin with granny.

I always think of granny Donaldson when I think of crocheting in brasstown .
Before, or right around (perhaps how) I found you…
    Such adorable outfits!

So glad to hear the good report! Go, granny, go!

  43. Thank you so much for your videos & emails, I was born in a Coal mining camp in Kentucky somewhere near Hazard, where my Mom was from & Dad from Jackson, Ky. I think it was called Bonnie Blue, we moved when I started Kindergarten in Newport, Ky. after my Dad saw his friend get killed right near him in a mining accident, glad we moved, I began 1st grade in Cincinnati, Ohio & lived there until about 15 years ago as I’m now 63, that’s when my Wife passed from Cancer, I’ve since remarried & retired now to Brooksville, Ky. but reading your stories & watching your videos, reminds me of Granny in Jackson & Mamaw in Hazard always in the Kitchen cooking which is what got me so interested in it & I’m still cooking today for my Wife & I, prayers for you & your Family & continue all this great info you pass on.

  44. I can’t imagine those quilters doing all that quilting in their lifetime. I will be lucky to have done 20. Of course, I didn’t start til a few years ago. I guess I better ‘gitty up’ as they say. As far as Granny’s progress, I say Praise the Lord. The only thing I know about cancer, and learned this from when my Mother had it, was sugar. Her Doctor told her to stay away from anything with white sugar…cakes, cookies, sweets in general, that sugar feeds cancer cells. I did not research it any further and, Lordy, it took me a few months to ween off sugar altogether. I love Matt’s raised beds and with the pictures can really appreciate his creativeness. Prayers as always for Granny and God Blessing you guys. ps…love her crocheting.
