Today’s post was written by Paul.

Bible on rock

I was whistling the old song “Sing Unto Him a New Song” while washing the dishes, and Granny said, “We ought to sing that song.”

She recognized the tune because she and Pap used to sing it. Pap and his brother, Ray, also sung it.

It was on the same 1966 Jim and Jesse album as the last song that Granny and I uploaded. As I finished washing the dishes, “I said, sure, Doll, if you want to.” She took her cane and disappeared into her bedroom. She came back wearing a very pretty shirt. I told her that if Katie sees it, she’ll want it. 🙂

This song is surprisingly hard to sing. The notes are so easy to go flat or sharp on (which I did several times), because the words or syllables that fall on those notes are kind of hard to form into those pitches (like the word “Him”), but it is a very good song, one of encouragement.

Several times in the book of Psalms, David talks about singing a new song to God. We know that God is a creative God, the Creator of everything, and the writer of this song, like David, believed that it pleases the Lord when we use the creativity that He gave us to create something to honor Him. The songwriter also says that we benefit when we create and perform something for God–that God lifts us up in response. I searched online but couldn’t find the songwriter’s name.

I hope you enjoyed this duet with Granny. Somewhere, I believe I have a recording of her singing the song with Pap. If I can find it, I may share it.

Next month, I’ll upload a song for Hank’s birthday, and on the day after, I hope to upload a special video to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Wilson Brothers’ first album, Words of Life. I hope you all “tune in” for those videos.

The last “coming soon” thing that I’ll mention in this description is that the new CD of Pap’s songs that I have been producing over the past six years is finally at the duplication house. I have been exchanging email messages with the artwork department, requesting small changes here and there. I hope to receive new proofs soon and to be able to give them final approval to start printing everything. The title of the album is Live to Never Die. When we have the new CD’s, we’ll let everyone know, perhaps with a video.

Thanks for reading and watching! You can hear Jim and Jesse’s version of “Sing unto Him” by searching on YouTube.

  10. Thank you for this beautiful song and beautifully sung this morning as I was getting ready for church. It was a “Light” to my heavy heart and worried mind this morning to have a different perspective and praise the Lord this morning instead of bogged down with my worry thoughts. I have sung it in my head all day and really like it. Mrs. Wilson looks beautiful and the top looks lovely on her. Y’all sounded so wonderful together! What a treasure for mother and son to be able to sing and play the guitar like that together. Y’all made me smile, and my daughter too when I played it for her. Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday and week!

  11. For everyone that has enjoyed Paul and Granny today, I found another song of Paul and Granny singing together. It is “How Much Are You Worth”. For the last hour and a half I have been listening to the hymns of old I grew up singing and hearing in church, sung by the Pap, Paul and other family members of the BP&A. My church still sings the old hymns.

God is good, Tipper and Paul, He is very good. I love all of you, and I am praying!

  23. Paul, I have never heard Granny sing with you and now I want to hear more. We would have never known the song was hard to sing as you and Granny mastered it.

  24. This song reminds me of that wanting to go beyond our ability, to reach higher. I sometimes feel that must surely be the same for all believers. One day (when all days but that one are over) I feel sure part of “the glorious liberty of the children of God” will be the ability to exceed our present limitations. Perhaps then each will be both songwriter and singer? Good thoughts brought to mind for a Sunday morning.

  25. That was beautiful!! I wish we could have heard Granny singing with you more as she has such a sweet soft harmony voice blending with your beautiful voice. I like her pretty shirt too:)

  26. I had never heard this song . Paul and Granny singing together is priceless and will only become more valuable as time goes on. I needed to hear the song’s message this morning. I saw the older post “Angel Band Come And Around Me Stand”. I thought of my granddaddy, Angle Band and a Beautiful Life were his 2 favorite songs. Each morning while out at the barn feeding his animals, he would be singing these songs as loud as he could. He lived his life by the words or message in A Beautiful Life.

  27. I would love to have a Paul and Granny album of music; I would buy it in a heartbeat. Their voices are perfect together, and the album could be a complete Pressley family affair with all voices and all instruments, but I’m a true fan of Granny’s voice coupled with Paul’s.

  28. Paul and Granny, what a blessing to hear you both sing such a beautiful praise to our Lord! Granny sing beautiful harmony and Paul your lead was perfect. Thank you both! Prayers for Granny and all the family.

  32. Good morning Paul and Granny Evelyn! I certainly enjoyed today’s beautiful song sung by two of my favorite singers and people! I never realized just how gorgeous Granny’s voice is until today! Isn’t she simply amazing that she is always eager to do her Father’s work even though she may not feel too good at times. And might I add she looks lovely and happy singing beside you, Paul! She and all of you are really blessed to have each other, lots of love, and a tight knit family! We all want that you know. May you be blessed this day and I want you to know you blessed my soul with this lovely song! I will sing a new song starting today-not this old one.

  33. That was absolutely the sweetest thing I have seen for a very long time. Granny has a beautiful voice and her harmonies were perfect.
