Albert E. Brumley aka Gospel Songwriter Extraordinaire penned the song “Thank God for the U.S.A.” in the early 1940s. I had never heard the song until I heard Pap and Paul sing it.

It’s a great song with wonderful lyrics and a tune that will be going around in your head all day long after you hear it.

“Thank God for the U.S.A.” written by Albert E. Brumley

In a world that is drifting and changing
When the faith of the people is torn
There’s a nation of hope and of freedom
Where the sons of courage are born
It’s the land of the Star Spangle Banner
Tis a nation as fair as the day
Thank God for the land born of freedom
Thank God for the U.S.A.

Thank God for the U.S.A.
Land of the brave and true
Thank God for the true American way
For the stars and the red white and blue

Thank God for the land we love
Life and our liberty
Thank God for the right to be an American
Thank God for the U.S.A.

To our almighty father in heaven
To the One who ranks higher than all
May He lead may He guide us and keep us
By His grace we never shall fall
For the stars and the stripes of Old Glory
Let us humbly earnestly pray
Thank God for the land born of freedom
Thank God for the U.S.A.

Thank God for the U.S.A.
Land of the brave and true
Thank God for the true American way
For the stars and the red white and blue

Thank God for the land we love
Life and our liberty
Thank God for the right to be an American
Thank God for the U.S.A.

I only shared the verses Pap and Paul always sung, but you can see the song in it’s entirety here and you can hear Pap and Paul below.

Hope you enjoyed the song as much as I do!

  1. This post from the 2nd was in my email in box, but I somehow missed it. Thankfully, I saw it while cleaning out my in box . What a treat to have a video of Pap and Paul singing. I’d never heard the song before, but it is a good one! Thank you for sharing it with us!

  2. Everyone expressed most of my concerns and thoughts about our wonderful country. God Bless America and God bless you all.

  3. My great grandfather was a Civil War hero, & my husband’s father was a WWII Veteran on the beach at Normandy, France.

We have faith in our country, even in times of crisis. Our country will be just fine, because God has blessed America even before the song was penned!

Thanks for sharing this song today! Forces of evil have always come up against us from without n from within. But, we will prevail God is on our side!

    Blessings

  4. A beautiful song, beautifully sung and you posted at a very appropriate time of the year. Thank you Tipper, I pray you and your family will be together for this Fourth of July Holiday and will be healthy and safe. This country, America, is nothing like it used to be. Everything Good has been replaced with some of the most evil and perverted things I’ve ever heard of. America needs to bring God back and think of our values from a much better time in the past. I pray it’s not too late. I love y’all

  5. Beautifully done as always, God can Bless America again, because he is the “Majority”. Even tho we forget these days, I don’t have the power to subdue the enemy, but I know one who can, even Michael the ArchAngel couldn’t handle the evil one but said the Lord Rebuke thee, he knew who holds the most power to over come, and that’s what I have faith in that the Lord Rebuke those that try to harm our Country and our Faith and the innocent living in and outside the precious womb.

  6. Love this. We the people have let God down, let America down. Like was said, God has been taken out of everything and we have down nothing to stop it. And we ask ourselves (why) It’s only going to get worse. We are so weak. We the people need to Get on our knees and pray , pray hard to the one that has the power above all to do something. God has the final say.

  7. We don’t need politicians to show us how to make this country great again. It’s all in the bible. II Chronicles 7:14 If my people who are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. May God bless our USA!

  8. Our beloved country is in trouble. It seems it is turning away from the God on which it was founded. God, Jehovah has and is being replaced by movie stars, television stars, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube Influencers and so on. If we turn our back on God, He will turn His back on us. That would be awful. If the US gives in to the One World Government that so many are espousing then the most populous nation will gain control of the whole world. I think you already know what that country is.

  9. Dear Tipper…God bless you and the rest of your family and thank you for the real music that you share with us. I always look forward to the singing, especially on a Sunday morning Pap’s voice still rings true.

  10. Beautiful song! Thank you for sharing. I pray for America every day. I like to hear Tex Ritter sing God Bless America Again. Wonder what the old timers would think of our country now? Seems like anything goes these days and we are supposed to accept it. I just keep on praying that God will heal our country.

  11. The music was a real blessing today! The song is so heart warming and with a catchy beat. Loved it so!

  12. how many lives have paid for our freedom? does anybody care? does anybody realize people died like Jesus for you and me? God bless you friends of Appalachia

  13. Our nation has slipped so far away. I used to look back on the days of my childhood as “the way things were supposed to be,” but I have come to understand that we were slipslidingaway long before then, too. I am thankful for the blog, the song, and for the U.S.A., but I am even more thankful for God’s grace. Without God’s patience….

  14. I am proud to be an American but not proud of some Americans. I have two Marine grandsons and one who will join the Army after graduation and pray for their safety. I have a picture with these words on how I feel: “I wouldn’t change my grandchildren for the world…..But I wish I could change the world for my grandchildren”.
    Happy 4th of July everyone!

  15. Thank you for sharing. God is still in control of the USA. Thank you, Lord for your mercy and grace! God bless you and take care ❤️

  16. So many folks are quick to put down our country but in spite of all its problems, there’s no other place I want to call home. At one point, my fiancé wanted to move to another country citing various things he saw as major problems. Guess that’s one of the reasons we parted ways.
God opened this country for us to escape the tyranny to religious freedom. While many have made a mockery of freedom we hold dear, we know where we stand. Guessing it is why so many wish to risk their lives to come to our shores still today.

  17. God will has and will bless us if the people turn to Jesus and back to The Word. The Bible answers every question and also tells us what the future holds. I know I thank God that I was endowed by my Creator with certain unalienable rights… Only in America.

  18. Good Sunday morning to the BP&A family. I’ve never heard that song before. It’s beautiful. Always enjoy the music.

    GOD bless America

  19. I am going to make a comment that may upset some, it is how do we expect God to bless America when we have allowed our government to take God out of everything? Just a few things, but no where near close to all of them, praying no longer allowed in schools or public meetings, can not post the Ten Comments in public/government buildings, some wanting to remove “In God We Trust” from our money and the things we are now allowing to go on in America today. I am in full agreement with Ron, this song and the words “God Bless America” no longer mean what they once did. I will always remember a principal , Mrs. Virginia Dean, of an elementary school my children attended saying before an awards day school meeting she was going to pray, she did not care about being told she was not suppose too, at the end of her prayer, the audience stood up and gave her a standing ovation and nothing was ever done about her praying. Her grandmother was my 3rd grade teacher, each morning before we started our school day, we would have a devotion and say a blessing before eating lunch.

    1. Great question Randy! The answer is, of course, we don’t! We pray to God and ask for his blessings to be bestowed on our particular countries, on our peoples, relatives, families, friends, and even our enemies! We pray for each other when trouble arises in places that we never knew of, and ask Our Lord to protect them from such misery.
We should all pray constantly, (Abba, Father!) (Mark 14:36, Romans 8:15, Galatians 4:6). And we don’t need the approval of any government to do so. Those 10 Commandments are ours, everyones, not any governments sactioned ideas or commands, God’s Commandments!
I grew up in a time when, every morning at school, we said our prayers, and then we recited The Pledge of Alliegance (to The United States of America).
We also helped smuggle bibles, clothing and food to poorer, downtrodden peoples and countries. Smugglers?!? children? Teachers? Us? Yessiree! And we did it in God’s name. And we did it because we could, and we did it because we are Americans.

    2. I think I forgot to write which Calvary Baptist Church I was writing about. That’s the one in Lincolnton, NC

    3. America is mostly its people. Despite there being so many that I would not include in the list, the vast majority of people are good, honest, decent, God-fearing folks, I think.

Politicians get support from crises and problems when they solve them but suffer no consequences for creating them or failing to solve them.

Media and the entertainment industry are much to blame, as well. Nearly all media follow the dictum: If it bleeds it leads. This means that only sensational things are covered. The media has appointed itself as the voice of the people when it hasn’t been that for many decades. Entertainers believe they have the right to set standards for government and for morality when we all know that is God’s Domain.

What America needs, in my opinion, is wise solons to address changes to our constitution to constrain and reduce the power of the federal government that, without without meaningful checks and balances has become something that the nation’s founders could not have imagined.

Sorry for the rant, but the theme of today’s blog is America’s greatness. Although some of its best values have been tarnished, I have faith that – with God’s Help – Americans can wrest control from the career politicians and put all politicians in check for all things not absolutely necessary for them to meddle in.

      Sorry for the rant, but

  20. That is a beautiful song and the Wilson’s did a very fine job on it! I pray for America and our people every day because we certainly need it! Happy Independence Day and May the Lord heal our nation which seems shattered at this time. Since when did fireworks become symbolic of the 4th? From last night for at least 3 nights running, these hillbillies who don’t work can somehow afford fireworks as opposed to food or clothing. With PTSD, these nights will be rough for me. Take God away and you’ve got nothing but trouble, chaos and mayhem. Love to all in our Lord! May He help us or I fear it’s over.

  21. Difficult times now that sometimes make us cry, or want to, but we are not beyond hope and gratitude.
1TH5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. This place has good worth holding fast. I think all of us who have come and stayed feel that way. In God we trust.

  22. What a beautiful song being sung by a beautiful family. Even though our country seems to be going down hill in values, I am still so very thankful to live in the USA. Tipper, thank you so much for sharing.

  23. Beautiful song with beautiful lyrics. Love listening to Pap and Paul sing. God bless your family and God bless the USA.

  24. Beautiful. Paying for our Country as I think we need it. Honesty and integrity seems to have fallen by the wayside to a lot of people and this country is suffering for it. I will stay positive though, cause we do have so much to be thankful for. My husband and I do a lot of reliving with your Friday readings and it is so fun to see where our country and it’s people have progressed. Love your garden and your hard work shows. It will soon be canning time and that is a lot of hard work. But when you look at your shelves of your bounty and know you have it to count on…gosh it does bring a smile. God Bless you guys and charge on.
