Granny Turns 85

great grandchildren with grandmother

Granny last summer with all her great grandkids.
Since the photo was taken she has another great grandson and one great grandson on the way.

Today Granny is 85 years young. We will have a celebration for her over the weekend. She insists on bringing the green beans and Paul is going to make her famous Holy Smoke Cake. You can find the recipe here.

We’ll also have a ham the way Miss Cindy fixed one, potato salad, rolls, and whatever other side dishes folks bring. I’m also having someone make Granny a special cake.

Granny loves to tell the story of the day she was born. Her mother, Gazzie, told her there was a big snow on the ground. So big that it was even with the porch and had completely covered the steps. Granny’s mother had eleven children and Granny was the ninth. So I’m sure a big snow and a baby coming didn’t worry Gazzie too much.

Yesterday Granny had an appointment to see what her recent tests showed about her cancer. The news was a mixed bag.

The lymph node has grown in size slightly and there is a new lesion on a gland in the same area. Thankfully Granny still isn’t having any symptoms and the doctor hopes she won’t for a while longer.

The decision made by Granny and her doctor is to keep checking on her every few months and offer any care she needs.

I wish the second place wasn’t there and the first place was gone, but I am thankful that for right now she doesn’t have any symptoms and is feeling pretty good. As for Granny, she said her prayers had been answered. Her goal is to make it till the next great grandson arrives and hopefully with the recent diagnosis she will do just that.

Thank you for all your prayers and for the many birthday wishes, cards, and gifts you’ve sent her way! We appreciate all you do for us. Granny says you’re the nicest bunch of folks she’s ever seen. I wholeheartedly agree with her 🙂

  30. Happy Birthday, sweet Granny! I made a mental note to mail you a card but forgot, like I have been doing a lot lately. I will make up for my oversight next March 6th. You have fought and won bigger battles than the lymph node, which has only grown slightly, and the new lesion. May God bless you and keep you pain-free.

  31. I left an earlier reply wishing Granny a happy birthday. After watching the video, I have a suggestion for Matt and breaking up the hard spots in the garden. You can buy a separate plow for doing this, but I think he may be able to change the plow, not the frame, on his new potato plow to a plow I know as a subsoil plow and breakup up the hard pan in the garden. In my vocabulary a subsoiler is just a narrow plow point used for for doing this, and also I call his potato plow a middle buster. The next time he is at Tractor Supply, he can see what I am referring too. When we covered or hilled our potatoes we would use an old mule drawn plow with a half shovel plow mounted on it. Think of his turn plow, go down left side of a row and then come back up on the right side doing this will cover whatever is in the row and make a perfect hill. He might be able to do this with his turn plow depending on the spacing of the rows and not plowing deep.

    1. Randy, I always get a lot out of reading your posts on this blog. You have a whole lot of knowledge about many different things. I will keep praying and lift you up to our Heavenly Father for your struggles in this here world. We all have much to learn from you when you share it. Thank you very much.

      1. Kw, Thank you for remembering and praying for me in my struggles. As for knowledge, I don’t know so much about that. I am not trying to toot my own horn, but I think I do excel and go beyond expectations in my knowledge of knowing how to mess up things!

I hope none of you ladies will get mad or upset with me today. I just enjoy teasing . I recently read something telling women not to give up on men, God was still working and trying to make a perfect man.

  32. Happy Birthday, Granny!! I pray you feel all that wonderful love from your family when they gather for your special shindig!! God bless!

  48. Happy Birthday Mrs. Wilson I hope it’s a wonderful day and you enjoy it through the weekend and beyond.
I hope in the getting ready and trying to make sure everything is done, that you enjoy your Mama and all that get to make it Tipper.

  49. Happy Birthday, Granny! You are a mighty precious lady! I hope you got the card I mailed to you, we have been having problems with our postal service for the last 6 months. They are short handed and the workers they do have have been sick and unable to work. I will continue to pray for you.

This is for Robert Hutchins, the Mennonite family I mentioned is the Beardnard Family. As for Tipper working Matt like a rented mule, I wrote a comment warning Matt about this when he retired, I told him a married man didn’t retire, he would now be working for new management! I heard a retired married say “I’m going back to work on my old job so I can get some rest!” Reckon Tipper ever sits back and watches Matt do something and then tells him you should have done it this way.” A wife enjoys doing that!

    1. Randy, That’s why God made Adam first. He didn’t want a woman that had never seen a man trying to tell Him how to make one.

      1. Jackie, since we have already open up a can of worms, I will go ahead and say this, have you ever noticed when God was creating the world, the Bible says after each day God said it was good and rested. But after He created the woman Eve, the Bible says nothing about God nor man resting anymore.

        1. Where does the Bible say that God created Eve, or Adam for that matter? My Bible says that God formed Adam from dust and “Woman” from Adam’s rib. My Bible tells me that God stopped creating at the end of the seventh day. Adam and Eve were not created at all. Adam was “formed” from dust that had been created before God rested. God made a “help meet” for Adam from one of his ribs and called her “Woman”. It was Adam who called her Eve.

  50. Happy Birthday Granny. You make me miss my sweet mother more every day. I pray God’s blessings on each of you. You sure have raised a wonderful family and set a great example.

  51. Happy Birthday, Granny! Praying you get all you wish for on this special day. God bless you with many more.
