Tipper,
I use to wear steel toed shoes or boots
and they’ve saved my feet many times.
Anymore I just use short boots that
mostly support my ankles.

Grandpapa was a good man but he just would overindulge in liquor every weekend. We kids loved him very much anyway–one of his boo boos was turning over the Christmas tree while “drunk as Cootie Brown” & another was “mashing my toenail off” with the rocking chair. Thanks for reviving some good memories, too. Grandpapa was a story teller & we were enthralled by his tales of how we were going on a trip up the “knifey & forkey river”, etc. We had a wonderful peach tree at the end of the garden & he would peel the peaches for us with his pocket knife. Mama said he would “whisker” us till we were red but it must not have been too bad–she said we would be laughing.
B. Dyer had some good ideas – – another possibility: child likes to ride bareback and barefoot (best to have boots around horses) or maybe was herding a few head of cattle – best to have steel toed boots – or at least a sturdy pair of cowboy boots – in either case.
Are you going to tell us the situation?
They must think we have frog feet around here cause we all have to wear steel toad boots.
Reminds me of my grandpa who always expressed fear or dismay over my antics by saying, “Now look what you’ve done.”
Tipper,
My question?
What was Joe doin’ that without boots (or steel toed boots) would get his toes “mashed” off, rather than cut off? Was he stompin’ and mashin’ down the clay around a fence post with a tamper? Was he totin’ one of those big boulders
while doin’ a bit of landscaping?
OR, was Joe a “little feller” just playin’ “dare ya”, stickin’ his toes under grannys rockin’ chair as it rocked back and forth?
Thanks Tipper,
PS…Hope he (Joe) got the job done without gettin’ his toes mashed off!
PS…I got winter squash, Pink Jumbo Banana, Cushaw Green Striped, and Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato squash growing everywhere, even the bad day come up…
The zuchinni, only one seed sprouted in the whole bunch on good day! Go figure!
“What you give of good or ill
Is bound to come back to you again.
For it’s like scattering bread on water.
Give good; for ill will shorely bring no gain.”
That sounds like a great big ‘ouchy’ to me. It hurts just reading that!
I love it! It sounds just like the things that were said to me as a kid. I was always getting into things that I was ill prepared to handle and I had no thought for consequences.
