Matt made the girls and me a delicious Mother’s Day supper. Along with grilled deer meat we had green beans, potatoes roasted with onions, and rolls.

I was able to find a white rose at Granny’s and make a corsage to wear for Mother’s Day. While I was at it, I made the girls one too. I used red roses from a bush in my yard that came from aunt Fay and uncle Woodrow.

I hope we can continue the Mother’s Day flower tradition from now on.

You can find a copy of mine and Jim’s cookbook here.

  1. I got Paul’s email wrong……my husband wife picture was returned
I used paulwwilson @gmail.com. Can you send me the correct one?
I lost sent the picture to your email

  2. That looked like a really good meal and a very pretty picture of you and your daughters for Mother’s Day. Now that I think about it, I don’t think I had my picture made with my mother on Mother’s Day even after I became a mother. We, through the years, have not been much of a picture taking family. We did take our family picture on this past Sunday, and I am glad that we did.

  3. Two things Tipper,
1-have you heard the descriptive term, “qware”? Such as, “My grandpa as qware when it come to his pickup truck.” I think it’s originally derived from the word “queer” which originally referred to “different” or “curious”.
2-have you ever made a sweet potato cobbler. My grandmother & mother used to make the best! Fortunately, they taught me how to make em too!!!

  4. Thank you Tipper for posting a beautiful picture of you and your girls! You all look so happy, and that dinner Matt cooked sounds delicious!

  5. Hi Tipper and Acorns. TY for sharing the recipe for Matt’s favorite venison. TY for the photo of y’all and your Mother’s Day Corsages. I’m so glad that you got to wear Granny’s white rose and the girls got to wear your red roses. I put out a few peppers, dill and onions today. I keep everyone here and up Wilson Holler in my prayers. I love y’all.

  6. Happy belated Mothers Day to you and the girls! My boys made me feel special. The youngest one loves to cook and he made gumbo. It was so good. Of course I know you had mixed emotions this year without Granny’s physical presence. This was my first year without my mama to. So thrilled you got to wear a white rose from granny’s yard; and that Mothers Day meal sounds mighty fine. My son that likes to cook made Matt’s holiday deer roast at Christmas and it was so delicious.

  7. You three girls look beautiful. I love the rose corsages you made. I think printing this photo, and putting it in a frame, would be a wonderful Father’s Day gift for Matt. I watched your Mother’s Day surprise video last evening. I would love to go to those thrift shops and look for clothes with you. The skirt you found was perfect. I mostly don’t like any clothes made today. Vintage clothes are so much more attractive. I had a wonderful day yesterday. I have hanging baskets of flowers on the porch and was treated to dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant. We took both our mamas out to dinner…and I got to spend precious time with my family. My daughter’s husband dug her up a little garden. She is so excited to plant tomatoes and strawberries. I hope everyone had a special day as well. Blessings to all.

  8. That white rose of Granny ‘s was another gift from her. I’m happy you made the picture of you beautiful three mothers!!! I was a sad little orphan wearing a white rose after my mama died when I was 18 months…I was the only little girl at church that didn’t have the blessing of wearing red… but I did have a loving aunt and grandmother who stepped in with generous love and care, both on mama’s side… My dad was killed in a work accident when I was three. I’ve had to decorate parents’ graves for 69 years of my 71.

  9. The 3 of you look so pretty in your mother’s day picture! Glad yuns had a nice day together.

I have a prayer request…I’m having surgery this Thursday at Mission in Asheville and I’m nervous as I can be about it. It’s been 15 yrs or longer since I’ve went under the knife and Mission doesn’t have the best reputation at the moment so I’m even more nervous than I normally would be. Please pray for the Dr’s and nurses that will be taking care of me and pray they can remove all of the tumors. Thank y’all and God bless

    1. I am just this morning reading Sunday’s blog and I have prayed for Cassie and the surgery on Thursday and will continue to remember her in my prayers.

  10. That’s a beautiful picture of you, Katie and Corie, and it was so nice of Matt to cook a Mother’s Day supper for you and the girls!!

  11. Morning everyone. That is a very nice tradition. Maybe if the three of you keep it going others will follow. You all look so pretty and happy. Anna from Arkansas.

  12. Beautiful picture of three sweet mama’s and how special to find a white rose for Granny from Granny’s garden, and lovely red corsages to you made for the girls, Tipper. Hugs and blessings to you all.

  13. It sounds like your Mothers Day was a success! The photo of you and the girls is just wonderful and you all look beautiful! The corsages are nice touches. Ladies as lovely as the rose I would say. I saved the marinade recipe and thanks for that. Your dinner looked scrumptious. I got to meet lil grandson Willie yesterday and had a great day with him and his mother. My cup runneth over with blessings. It has rained here and is chilly. Just maybe I can plant some stuff some day soon. The garden is ready and taters are coming up. I decided to go with more potatoes too. Gods blessings to all… have a good day…

  14. What a beautiful picture! I remember wearing a red rose on Mother’s Day when I was growing up. It may be a southern custom.

  15. Three beautiful Christian women!
I love the tradition of the corsages and we had it in our church for many years.
I am going to suggest at our next Women’s meeting we bring that tradition back!
I think it would be so much fun to get together and make corsages and hand them out on Mother’s Day.

  16. Your grilled deer loin looks delicious Matt!! And the surprise outing for Tipper was wonderful. Lots to see and enjoy. The boys are precious!! Ya all sure had a beautiful Mother’s Day weekend:)
My youngest son came and planted my vegetable beds. He has done that for the past 5 or more years. He planted tommy toes, cucumbers, big boys, okrey, yellow squash, zuchhini, & bush beans all in raised beds, except for two lg tomato plants in their pots. I will enjoy walking out the patio door onto my patio and picking fresh produce thru the summer. My oldest son came in from down south and brought me a huge salmon colored pot of geraniums and took me to a favorite place called Popeye’s. Yum good chicken! I don’t get there often but when I do I sure enjoy the meal:)
Meant to say on the blog for wearing of flowers on Mother’s Day that my Mother was very creative as she made beautiful flowers out of material. I don’t know how she did it but I have some and they are gorgeous. She would be 110 years old if she was alive today and I remember her telling me that when she was young they made beautiful flowers from crepe paper and decorated the church and cemetery on decoration day.

  17. Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe! We love venison meat and will have to try it. So nice of Matt to make supper for his girls. Last night for our Mother’s Day supper, I made your Cheesy Potatoes recipe from your cookbook. They were SO GOOD!! Everyone was raving about them and I was tickled to say, “This is Tipper’s recipe!” They asked me to please make them again. The photo of you and the girls is lovely, along with your beautiful corsages. You did such a nice job making them, Tipper!

  18. If my husband ever gets a deer again, I’m so going to use Matt’s recipe for tenderloin. His method for fried tenderloin is the only one I will use now. My mom remembers that when she was little, everyone wore a flower for Mothers’ Day, not just the women.

  19. Miss Tipper and all the Acorns, hope everyone had a good Mother’s Day weekend. I really think the flower tributes for our mothers is so sweet and so easy to fulfill. Your day was nice Miss Tipper. Your Matt and your girls are very thoughtful and kind. Have a blessed day everyone and hopefully the weather is beautiful. Please pray for my husband if y’all could. He’s been sick now for a number of weeks and has been losing a tremendous amount of weight. The doctor has been doing all kinds of test. He has also been going through bronchitis. That’s being treated. He’s 85 years old as of April and showing signs of dementia. He’s very weak but keeps going as well as he can. God bless you all, today, tomorrow and always.

    1. God bless your husband with deliverance, from this affliction, in Jesus name, heal him Lord and make him well in Jesus name, Amen

  20. Ladies, you look lovely! Your rose corsages are very meaningful. Besides being the traditional colors, the fact that they were originally grown by your loved ones is very precious.

  21. Since I don’t hunt deer anymore, we buy a pork loin and wish it was venison. I guess I could hunt again, but that doesn’t seem at all likely. A one-eyed old man loose in the woods with a deadly weapon might be hazardous to other folks’ health. But I do enjoy my pig meat.

    1. Gene, come back home to rural SC, you don’t need to go out in the uncomfortable woods with a rifle to kill deer in my neck of the woods, just get in your heated or air conditioned vehicle and drive around near sun down or about sun up in the morning. Chances are real good you can kill one with the front bumper of your vehicle! Probably be more costly than a rifle and bullet, though. Yesterday one jumped across the road in front of me near noon time. Often times I can also shoot one from my back deck, especially if I plant a small garden buffet in my back yard. It is very easy to find one on the side of the road someone else has already killed early each morning. We are email friends, you know I am just messing with you.

  22. God bless you!God bless Matt father Papaw with deliverance from sickness and disease, in the name of Jesus, heal his body and make him well,in Jesus name I pray today and ask this blessing for him, in your name Jesus, please heal this man and make him well, Amen

  23. Matt’s deer tenderloin recipe sounds delicious. You made beautiful corsages for yourself and the girls. You three look so pretty and more like sisters than mother with her daughters, because you look so youthful Tipper. Glad you all had a good Mother’s Day!

  24. So glad you were able to find the white rose from Granny’s bush. That’s a beautiful picture of you & Katie & Corie. How sweet of Matt to cook for y’all. Blessings to you!

  25. Good morning, Tipper. I, like you, missed my mother yesterday, but I miss her everyday. On May 24, she will be gone for 13 years. When I was a little boy, my aunt who worked in the local florist made my 3 sisters red rose corsages and me a red rose boutinier to wear to church in honor of our mother. No one practices that tradition here anymore. I think it is wonderful that you are starting this tradition again. It’s a simple tradition of a past time. Many things from those times seem to have been forgotten. We need to see that they are not forgotten. Thank you for keeping the Appalachian traditions alive. Please pray for me. I have been battling cancer for 12 years and am afraid it has returned. I keep you and yours in my prayers daily.

    1. God bless you AL, in the name of Jesus, be healed bd whole,be well, in the name of Jesus, I’ command cancer to go from your body right now in Jesus name , go go and never return, and I speak life, I speak healing, I speak restoration and freedom to your body right now in Jesus name, receive it and believe it, Amen

      1. Thank you so much for your prayer, Norman. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer. Please continue to pray for me. I hope you have a wonderful day in the Lord.
