Today’s post was written by Paul.

I hope you like the simple melody of the song I’m sharing today. I wrote “It’s Not Better to Have Loved and Lost” when I was about 17 years old.
After I wrote the song I later read the poem that the line is from which is Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem “In Memoriam.”
Like most people having only heard the line out of context quoted lots of times I thought or I figured the poem was about romantic love. The poem was actually inspired by the death (at a young age) of his close friend Arthur Henry Hallam. You can read the poem at this link. The line “tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all” can be found in the last two lines of the very long poem.
Even though I wrote the song, I don’t disagree with Tennyson, and I don’t think it would be better to have not loved than to have loved and lost.
Most of the songs that I wrote were back in my teenage years I’ve probably written only about three songs in adulthood most of my songs were written from about age 14 to 19.
When I first started listening to country music it was the music of the 1950s and so of course that influenced my music and I feel like you can really hear that in this song.
Hope you enjoyed the video!

There is another poem (I think by Marcus Aurelius) that speaks Tennyson’s message in different words:
to love without return
is a sad thing to befall,
but a sadder to come to die
without having loved at all.
I do not know what the value is – or if there is one – in a mis-match. Seems it ought to be worth something.
Very confused. Trying to make Arsh Potato cake. I am sure you know this recipe, by heart.
Batter says to add milk, but not in ingredients of how much.
Black walnuts are listed as ingredient in icing. But it says to fold in batter, which I did. This leaves no walnuts for icing.
Can you advise?
Kathleen-see if this post helps: https://blindpigandtheacorn.com/my-favorite-cake-for-christmas/ it has the recipe written out. Hope you enjoy it!
By the way I love the E! I’ve never seen an E made quite that way. Since my name begins with E, I might adopt that initial, if I can learn to make it myself.
For some reason that E brings to mind an antique door lock escutcheon plate. Sorry if my mind is weird mode this morning!
L gets a 1
O gets a 1
E gets a 1
but V gets a 4
Why is that? Is V better than all the other letters put together. If that is the case shouldn’t it say VOLE? Or Vole?
Will anybody else even notice?
Paul, you are full of talent. I really enjoyed listening to your original song. We need to hear more of what you wrote in the past. Thanks for these videos.
Having never read the poem before I too have always assumed it was referring to romantic love. Which tells me I need to read more poetry. Enjoyed the video.
I listened to this on the BPATA YouTube Channel when Paul posted the song. I think it is lovely.
I would have to agree with you Paul.
What sparked you to write this?
I watched the YouTube video the other night of you singing your song. You are very talented and your song is lovely.
Thank you Paul! Great singing, playing and composing! God bless you and yours❤❤
