Statue of Angel

Just a sinner saved by grace I’m headed for a better place
That’s all that I can claim here in this world
When my race down here is run and I face the setting sun
Holy angels come and take me to my home

Holy angels take me home I’ve been waiting for so long
To go and rest beside the river’s flow
When I step inside the gate I will see just what awaits
Holy angels come and take me to my home

When I reach that golden strand over in the promised land
All my loved ones will be waiting at the throne
Best of all we’ll see the king how we’ll shout and how we’ll sing
Holy angels come and take me to my home

Holy angels take me home I’ve been waiting for so long
To go and rest beside the river’s flow
When I step inside the gate I will see just what awaits
Holy angels come and take me to my home

Holy angels come and take me to my home

Like Chatter, “Holy Angels Take Me Home” is a song I grew up hearing and singing in church. I believe Morris Stancil wrote the song, but I’m not sure. I’m thinking Ron Stephens might know if he did for sure.

Hope you enjoyed the girls singing one of their favorite gospel songs and hope you have a wonderful Sunday!

  1. I can see how that would be a favorite hymn and special memory for you all. A beautiful hymn that is new to me; I especially like that first verse/stanza. I know so many people who are grieving their loved ones-myself included, so many hurting in this world. Having the hope of Heaven from God’s promises in His Word gives real strength to continue on, minute by minute, doing that which He has ordained for each of His children to do as long as He gives us here. Because He Lives and When We All Get To Heaven are two hymns that have gotten me through many times of grieving too. Thank you for singing and playing it – so beautiful.

  2. TIPPER I JUST LOVE THE MUSIC . KEEEP THE GIRLS PLAYING. WOULD LIKE THEM SING (WHAT A FRIEND I HAVE IN JESUS) I REALLY LIKE THAT ONE.

  3. This song is my prayer for a dear 98 year old friend who is in hospice and ready to go home & be with Jesus. I have sung this song along with y’all (inserting her name in the song) many times today in hopes that Jesus is ready to take her home today. If not, I still know that God has a plan. Hugs & thank you for this today.

  4. Beautiful song that I have never heard before. The words to this song are so special and the girls did a wonderful job as always. Thank you for sharing.

  5. The Funeral Fork:

I read recently about a lady who was nearing the end of her earthly life. The lady told her pastor that she wanted to be buried with a fork in her hand. When the pastor asked why she explained that if a hostess told you “hold onto your fork” at the end of the meal, it meant that there was a really good dessert coming. No matter what you had been enjoying, the best is yet to come!

The pastor told the children of her request and at first they objected. The lady clarified to her children that she didn’t want to die with a fork in her hand as she passed into glory, but she wanted people to see the fork in her hand at her funeral, and they assured her it would happen. The children decided to honor her request. They knew it would draw attention but she wanted to be able to remind and tell folks about the heavenly feast. The best is yet to come… and she knew that she would be experiencing the best bounty that is unimaginable.

  6. Lisa Snuggs’ father was Bodie McDowell, an icon in the world of outdoor communication and as fine a fellow as you could ever hope to meet. Selfless in an endearing, “as shucks” way, he covered all things outdoors for the “Greensboro News & Record” for decades, had a bass (the “Bodie Bass”) officially named for him by the state wildlife folks, created a national scholarship endowment for aspiring outdoor writers which has helped dozens of college students underwrite the costs of their studies, served terms as president of both the Outdoor Writers Association of America and the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association, and was ever a ready ear for any sporting scribe (including me) who wished to draw on his wisdom. To read Lisa message about this song lifting her up in a time of grief is in itself uplifting. It’s a fine example of how, often unbeknownst, the gift of shared music can have deep meaning.

  7. Thank you Katie and Corie, I love gospel songs and I sure did enjoy hearing this beautiful song this morning right before I head off to church. God Bless you all!

  8. I have never heard this song. I do like it and like being able to read the words. My hearing is not good and sometimes I do not understand the words that are being sung. This week I read the obituary for a high school friend and classmate. His obituary included an article titled “Change of Address Notice”, it was several paragraphs long, but just told about God building him a new home and he had now been called to live in his new Heavenly home. The first time I have ever saw anything like that in someone’s obituary. I sorta liked it.

I have been awake for several hours during the night but finally dozed back off just to wake up dreaming of my wife. I hate to leave my boys and other loved ones and friends, but I am looking forward to being with her again.

  9. I had not heard this song before this morning, and it is just beautiful. The girls voices really did sound like angels. The angel picture above has a face that looks so realistic—like she has something so serious and important she is pondering. Very sweet way to begin a beautiful Sunday morning. Thank you.

  10. Happy Sunday! Beautiful song, sung by two beautiful, sweet ladies. It’s such a blessing to praise the Lord with song as I get ready for church. I pray everyone has a blessed day.

  11. Love the song. I have never heard it before now. Good thing I didn’t already have my makeup on since the song made me tear up. Have a blessed and peaceful Sunday.

    1. I’m so sorry for your loss. Lifting you in prayer. Daddys are sure hard to lose. May the Lord give you comfort in the days and times ahead!

    2. Lisa
You’re in my prayers. It is a hard thing to loose our parents. This is a beautiful song that is very comforting.

  14. Are angels going to come and take me home or am I going the sleep beside my wife until Christ comes to take us to be forever with Him?

      1. Papaw, as Tipper says, there are differing opinions on this. I prefer to just focus on what Jesus said to the repentant thief who was crucified with Him: “Today you will be with me in Paradise.” Did that mean body and soul or just a soul waiting for its body to be resurrected when Jesus returns? I don’t know and don’t spend much time worrying about it. Jesus clearly meant that there would be no waiting to be with Him. I’ll take that promise and leave the debating to Bible scholars.

  15. Thank you! This is a great gospel song, I love the words, the truth in them! Katy and Cory you have beautiful voices and I love hearing you sing and play together! Thank you Pressley family for sharing with all of us. God bless you and yours❤❤

  16. Nothing better, nothing ever better than waking to joyful noises unto God, sung with beautiful voices and harmonies. My day has started off wonderfully, perfectly. Thank you, God, for this channel.

    1. Yes, Morris wrote that song. The copyright date is 1991. The angels came for him about two years ago. All of his song writing came from deep family tragedy yet he had the sweetest spirit of anybody you would ever meet. I think maybe Morris and the apostle John are like spirits. Morris’ son said he had notebooks of songs people had never heard because Morris said, “They just needed a little more work.” I only ever met him a few times but this old world is a poorer place without him in it. That is true though for each one of His that He takes home.
