A few weeks ago, Chatter asked me if she could make a Red Velvet Cake. I told her I had…

Over the past week, the Ivy around my house has started to bloom. If Ivy makes you think of the green vine…

Well Tipper: I don’t know whether to WORRY about the weather or just go sit under my favor right tree! But it is plenty warm over here in the Cumberlands! Hope you are staying cool!

hotter than old billy hell!
It was just that hot here today! Ay! I haven’t heard that expression, but have always heard
“It’s hotter than 7 shades in Hades!” and “It’s so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk.” When I was a child, I tried that once, and the egg certainly did cook!
Tipper,
I’ve been about to freeze to death a time or three today…We’ve been on the Cumberland Plateau workin’ today…It was windy and plum cold in the shade…Beautiful day and warmed up more in the afternoon but still high winds…Guess that cool front moved in our neck of the woods today…Suppose to drop down in the low eighties and real cool at night….with no rain in sight here til next Friday…GREAT FOR THE 650 MILE Hwy 127 WORLDS LONGEST YARD SALE….YEA!
I’ve heard hotter than blue blazes….and blue snow in the shade that is really cold…
Overheard today’s post… is a “new wrinkle on my horn”!
Thanks Tipper,
The humidity has been terrible around here, several days of fill like 100+ .
I lied in my first comment. I did too own a 4 barrel. It was in a 1963 Red Ford Galaxie 500. I never drove it. I couldn’t get it to run. I sold it to Dennis Morgan for $100. One of them in today, in prefect condition, could bring upwards of $50,000.
My favorite: “Hotter than th’ hinges on th’ gates of Hell”
Tipper,
That first part sounds like something the Deer Hunter would say. but I agree with the 2nd part, “I’m ready for the blue snow to fly.” Seems like I can put stuff on and keep warm, but I can’t get enough off for this heat.
My Air Conditioner at the shop has been out since early June, and I ’bout died. It’s like being in an oven in here, a metal building. Cindy said “it’s a wonder you’ve not had a heart attack.” So last week I went down and talked to an outfit. They came out and replaced both motors and a starter. Boy, it sure feels good in here again. …Ken
PS: Me and Summertime don’t get along, the Humidity is awful.
What with fuel injection and stuff nowdays nobody much knows what 4 barrel even means. I never ever owned a 4 barrel. Most of mine have been single.
It ain’t got all that hot here but it’s been sticky. Like the air is too thick to breathe. We’re post to get a break over the next few days. Tomar might not get out of the 70s. That ain’t blue snow but it will be nice.
Never heard that one before. I reckon there is a large number of ‘hotter than’ expressions. We mostly said, ‘Hotter than blazes’.
‘Blue snow’ makes me think of those winter blue shadows on north and east slopes with old crusty snow on the ground with rhododendron leaves hanging down like beagle ears.
Love this, never heard the saying but it immediately gives a perfect visual!
I think we’re about there, I’m ready for a little cooler weather and we haven’t even hit the hot part of summer!
