Gazzie and Charlie Jenkins – My grandparents

I’ll spend today down at Granny’s with the rest of the bunch, eating good food, and thinking of all the things I have to be thankful for.

Blind Pig Readers are at the top of my thankful list so you’ll be one of the things I’ll be studying on.

I am truly grateful for each of you who stop by for a daily dose of Appalachia. Your visits and comments make me more determined to continue my endeavor of celebrating and preserving the rich culture and heritage of Appalachia AND they enrich the very life I’m living each day.

I wish each of you a day full of blessings!!

Happy Thanksgiving from the whole Blind Pig Gang!

  1. Hi Tipper,
I hope you and family had a great and blessed Thanksgiving. I did not get to visit Mom and family in Blairsville over the holiday. My wife and I had three college students from China and Japan. We had a great time with our kids. Our young man attending NYC University said, “you all are much different down here.” He said we were friendlier, happier, seemed more at peace.” Another Chinese student said, “my Daddy would love to swap places with you. He is rich, but always working, always stressed and will never have freedom to travel.” I talk to the kids about God, our culture and importance of family. Hopefully they have gained from experiences in America. Certainly my wife and I are blessed to have these kids in our life. We have much to the thankful of. I very much enjoy reading you daily.

  3. What lovely comments from the BP&A readers. It is quite late in the day now and I sincerely hope Tipper and the family and all the readers had a blessed Thanksgiving with family and/or friends. For those who might have been alone, I hope that fond memories enriched your observance of the special day. Hubster and I shared our meal and happy thoughts of family far away and times past. But most of all we recognized the abundance of love showered down on us every day for the past 80 years by a loving Savior. Blessings to all!

  7. I am thankful, as are so many others, for you, Ti[pper, and your talented family as well. I think of my Ancestral home in the Smokies every day and your Blog keeps memories alive for me. Chitter & Chatter, Paul as well, are my favorite musicians and I play their music every day, well almost, every day. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Gratitude is what makes life work, I’m sure, and whatever one’s spiritual focus, giving thanks over food and music is the perfect way to express it. May God bless Pap, Grandma and the rest of your family and friends whether at your table or somewhere on “Life’s Other Side.”

  10. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Tipper. I am grateful for the things you and your family do every day to keep the Appalachian heritage alive, but especially on Thanksgiving. To echo Ron Stephens “The ‘salt of the earth’ folks are the ones who are holding things together”. You and your family are shining examples of that.

  11. Happy Thanksgiving to Tipper, her family, and all those I have met here. And on this holiday let’s remember those serving in the armed forces who may be in harm’s way.

  14. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Pap was the first person I ever heard say, “Don’t bust your belly” when he talked about eating so much good food at Thanksgiving. I’m going to silently remind myself of that as I go back for second helpings today.

  15. The ‘salt of the earth’ folks are the ones who are holding things together. They are rarely noticed by the passing parade. I am thankful for them and grateful to them. Among them are the BP&A folks.

Finding gratitude in the darkest hours keeps the light on.

  16. A sincere thanks Tipper for your every day posts. Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Our flock will start rolling in about 11 and sampling the deviled eggs and whatever else they can find not tied down. A joyful time. Larry Proffitt
