Song for Impossible Situations

October 27, 2024

cross against dark sky

A few days ago a friend shared some encouragement about the devastation Helene has wrought over many areas. After studying on her words I was reminded of the old gospel song “What Can Jesus Do.” I’ve also heard it called “What Can He Do.”

It was one of my favorite songs to sing as a girl in the church choir. The tune is peppy and sort of pulls you along as the lines rise up in intensity. The song always made me feel like it we were singing an uplifting anthem uniting everyone in hope.

Though helpless sad and blue He’ll do what other powers can never do Hear every time you pray drive all the clouds away Turn darkest night to day That’s what He can do

The refrain sums up my prayers and hopes for all those who are still suffering from the storm in one way or another. May God bless them all in every way they need Him.

  1. So beautiful! Our hearts are still so heavy for those suffering! May the Lord meet every need according to His riches in glory! He knows each one. Thank you for sharing this beautiful music!

  2. Thank you for sharing this, tipper, I really enjoyed listening to it. It resonated deep within. I have been following your blog for a couple years now, and have made quite a few of your recipes. Just this summer I have been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, so I haven’t been able to read your blog as often as I used to. When I sit down and clear out my email, I never just delete yours, I always open them up and read what you have written for that day. Thank you so much for all the education you have given us, for all the recipes, you’ve shared, and for sharing your family with us.

  3. “We lost everything in the flood.” Turn to the Lord.
“Our land was swallowed up by the river.” Turn to the Lord.
“We lost family members in a mudslide.” Turn to the Lord.
At every point in our lives, be it, catastrophic, mundane, or joyous, we must turn to the Lord. The Book of Job teaches us that no matter what happens, faith in The Lord our God must never waiver.
Pray for those in need in these difficult times, help if you can, but always have faith, not in things, but in each other, and in Our Lord.

  4. I love this old song. Jesus is our hope for every situation if we only trust in him. God Bless everyone affected by the storm.

  5. Thank you so much Tipper. I needed to hear that. I’m in Mitchell County. It’s been heart wrenching. I haven’t cried yet but I can feel it welling up inside. How can we ever thank all the precious people who have come to help us?
But thank You for helping us along they way. God Bless you.

    1. I am not able to actually help with my hands, but did give some money when my church took up a monetary donation to send to NC. Just knowing I may have been able to help make someone’s day a little better is all of the thanks I need or want. I will continue to pray for you Patti and all of the other ones.

  6. I really enjoyed the song “What Can Jesus Do?” The words are comforting and encouraging especially for those going through hard times. Pap, Paul and Corrie did a great job. I hope anyone who is praying and waiting for God to intervene with the problem(s) they have receives an answer today. We still are praying and collecting items for the victims of the storm. God is good. Have a blessed Sunday everyone.

  7. “May God bless them in every way they need Him.” When praying for those impacted by Helene and other disasters, I often feel as if I’m not sure just how to pray. Even though I know the Lord knows what’s on my heart, I often feel I’m not using the right words to convey my requests. But this simple statement says it all.

  8. What in the world is going on? What is this world coming to? Jesus.
Tipper, you and your family/community are a great encouragement and right on time. Thank you. Keep looking UP!

  9. Pap looked so strong there and Pap and Paul always sound great!!
Last night I attended the PA Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame Banquet that had musical guests The Down East Boys from NC. It was a good evening of the inspiring and soul lifting Southern Gospel Music.
God bless ya all and have a great Lord’s day and week ahead.

  10. Happy Sunday! Amen! Only what Jesus has done, can do and will do, we just need to believe and accept Him. The Holy Spirit will guide to lead us to do the rest of what God will have us to do.

  11. I enjoyed listening to this this morning. A lady at my church will often sing a song similar to this but I don’t know the title. The message in the first verse is she can not fix these problems we have but she knows a man that can, his name is God.

    1. I Know A Man Who Can?

I can’t take a heart that’s broken, make it over again.
But I know a man who can.
I can’t take a soul that’s sin sick make it white as the snow.
But I know a man who can!

Some me call him savior, the redeemer of all men.
I call him Jesus for, he’s my dearest friend.
If you feel that no one loves you, and your life is out of hand.
I know a man who can!

        1. Randy-Grace Larson with Jimmy Swaggart ministries sings this song. She will bless your heart. Also with Jimmy Swaggart is Joseph Larson who sings I Have Been Blest which is a great song!

  12. Thanks for sharing…I think I can draw on these words a lot and can’t wait to share with my family and friends. Prayers for Granny and God’s Blessings for all of you guys.
