The other day The Deer Hunter and I were talking about how technology has changed since we were kids. If someone had told me about computers and cell phones when I was young I would have thought they were crazy. I’ve always said I wish I could hear what Papaw Wade would say about cell phones and bottled water 🙂 I know it would have been wisdom filled…and humorous.

Who would have ever thought I’d be Celebrating and Preserving Appalachia with all of you on the interweb as Chitter would say 🙂 It’s amazing how close I feel to my readers even though I’ve never met most of you in person.

Technology seems to change faster and faster. As a website owner those changes sometimes throw a wrench into things.

One of those wrenches recently landed in my hosting company.

Unfortunately, the only way to sort it out is to move the Blind Pig & The Acorn to new hosting.

Thankfully I have a trusted colleague to help me with the move.

Some of you may remember when I moved the blog from Typepad to WordPress a few years ago-that was a Herculean task! Changing hosting is much much easier. But it will mean at least one day without posting on the Blind Pig, maybe two days.

So there will be no post or email from me tomorrow Thursday June 3 and maybe no post or email from me for Friday June 4. I wanted to let you know ahead of time so that you didn’t think I’d run off or that something had happened to us.

I hope to be back on Friday, but if not surely all the kinks will be worked out by Saturday.

  1. I’m hoping everything goes smoothly. I was concerned when there was no email for two days in a row!

  2. So thankful for the genuine closeness we have here even though we haven’t met in person…Know you all would be the sweetest people to get to. Enjoy all the other commenters too, …enjoy hearing others thoughts , especially opportunities to pray for one another as needs be. So Tipper , hope everything goes smoothly …good things are worth waiting for, so as others have said I will be here looking to see when you’re back with us however many days it is.

  4. Don’t let it stress you out. We are all so appreciative of your efforts we will do our best to be patient and support you however we can. Thanks for all your effort. Chip

  5. Maybe we’ll get a YouTube video during the silence of the blog. I’m liking the videos as much or more than the blog. From the response of readers and viewers a lot of people will agree with me. For a long time I thought blindpigandtheacorn.com couldn’t be outdone but https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP87Uu3q9IDUpEl1xr8-VQA might be better.
51,000 is a lot of people. It’s more than Cherokee, Graham and Clay County combined.

  6. Good luck with the switchover! I just did a massive rehaul of my email platform and webforms. I was worried I’d have to change hosts too, but we managed to work out our differences thanks to some helpful online techs who lived halfway around the world! It’s wild to think of how much has changed since our childhoods.

  7. Tipper, Thanks for sharing your life in Appalachia with our family here in far east Tn. Sorry you are having to deal with these changes. I will be looking every morning as usual.

  8. Do what you have to do Tipper. If it makes it easier, then do it. I have been on vacation, we went to Pamana Florida for a wk. Had a great time.

  9. I suppose sometimes when stressed you ask yourself, ‘Is it worth it?’ The number of comments today and their content would say “yes”, at least among us readers for sure. We of course do not know the behind-the-scenes troubles that go with the territory. And I, for one, do not remember often enough that you have made it free to us but it is not free to you. You and your family are appreciated. Your posts are a breath of fresh air in a world entirely too full of all kinds of junk. You are one of those ‘points of light’ or – as the Lord said it – a candle on a candlestick that gives light to all that are in the house. (Mt. 5:15) Verse 16 is even more to the point.

Thanks, and as so many have said, we’ll be here (with or without bells on)

  10. OOPS! What’s up with WordPress? My blog is on it, too, and I haven’t noticed an issue – of course, I don’t blog daily like you do. If you can, answer me privately. I’ll be anxious to see how your move goes and will look forward to seeing your next post.

  11. Just like you, Tipper, I have wondered what my Parents and Grandparents would say about all this technology. I remember when I was 19, a boy I was dating asked me what i thought would be the top service industry going forward. I said, “Computers” are going to be it. In my late 70’s now, I had no idea where that technology was going to take us. I was using an old Smith Corona typewriter at home and was so impressed when I got an IBM Selectric Typewriter at work. (With 2800 parts, many designed from scratch, the Selectric was a radical departure even for IBM, which had been in the typewriter business since the 1930s.) Years later I was married with two children and I worked part time for a secretarial pool when I was given the first computer and learned to use it on the fly. Had no idea what a floppy disk was but was determined to figure it all out. I remember when you changed from Typepad to WordPress. Waited patiently then and I will do the same now. Looking forward to the morning in a cou0ple days that I can get a hot cup of coffee and read your wonderful posts.

    1. Thanks for the heads up! I would have wondered if something was wrong. I start each day with a hot cup of coffee and your blog.
May the transition be uber swift and easy.
Will be looking forward to your return.

  12. I’m glad you shared. Now I won’t worry about not having my daily vist with you over my morning coffee.

  13. Thanks for letting us know! Praying it’s one day instead of two, but either way we will be here waiting!

  14. Thanks a big bunch for the heads up. Hope it will all go well for you in changing over.

  15. I can remember reading Dick Tracy in the Sunday comics at 8 or 9 and he had a wrist radio and that was talked about even with the adults. This was before real TVs and radios were bulky tube boxes.

    Good Luck with the move.

  16. We will be right here waiting on you. My Dad fought technology all the way. He kept a vehicle he could work on with no computer. He really did not like the new thing on phones where you could put people on hold and talk to somebody else. In the calm polite world he lived in, he just did not care for that. To this day I do not use call waiting, and choose instead to call the person back after I finish my conversation with the first party. You are such a smart lady, and always trying to learn more. You keep my mind active, because the posts always challenge me to learn more.

  17. I hurried to read the rest of the post after you said a wrench had landed in your hosting company. Thank goodness it was not what I expected. When you come back, we will be waiting.

  18. We’ll wait for you wherever you go. I love the blog and feel close to you and your family. The Blind Pig and the Acorn is one of my favorite blogs. It’s a wonderful thing. Thanks Tipper!

  19. Tipper, I will wait too, reading your blog has became one of the first things I do each morning..I care very much for you and everyone that comments on the blog. I have never met any of you but feel a connection to all of you. I will always remember the prayers and comments for me and my family during my wife’s passing.

  20. Tipper, I can’t imagine all the time and hard work you put into this blog, hope all goes well with the change over.Words seem so insignificant, when trying to express appreciation and thankfulness to you.Thank You Tipper Pressley

  21. I will be patient! I love your daily blog! I already have a soft spot in my heart for all of you , Tipper!!
