- ¼-½ cup olive oil
- ½ pound egg noodles or spaghetti
- ½ pound ground venison
- 2 ribs celery, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- Garlic salt to taste
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chives and Parmesan cheese
Heat broth to boiling and add noodles. In a separate pan, brown venison in olive oil. Sauté celery and onion in butter. When noodles are done, add cooked venison, celery and onion to soup pot. TIP: If you have leftover venison burgers, they can be chopped up and used in the soup.

I recently made Jim’s recipe for the first time. It was so good! In fact it is so good that it’s become a family favorite after one pot 🙂
The only thing I changed: I used green onions from the yard in place of the chives.
If you don’t have any deer meat I think ground beef would also be really tasty. Someone who purchased one of our cookbooks said they used canned deer meat and it was really good too.
When I shared the recipe in video form, several folks ask about the egg noodles I used. I found them at Ingles. They came in a bag and the brand name is al dente.
We eat a lot of deer meat and its wonderful to have another recipe that highlights the wonderful flavor of the meat.
You can find our cookbook here.

I saw the video where you made this soup. It looked so good! I’m going to try it, but will probably use either beef or chicken. Thank you for letting us know how good it is.
Tipper – the soup looks delicious! I love recipes that one can switch up and this is one of those where you could use beef or chicken or even lamb as the meat. I think adding a few peas to give it a bit of color would be good too no matter what meat one used. I will be sharing this with my son as he is always looking for quick meals he can make for the family when he gets home from work on the days his wife has to work double shifts (she’s a nurse). Thanks to both you & Jim for sharing this with us.
Since Friday is soup/stew night here, I enjoyed making this recipe but I used ground beef and it was a hit!! Also, I expect chicken would be good as well. Thanks
I saw the video and I want to try this but since we have no deer meat, I will use hamburger. It looks delicious!
I also watched Katie and Corie’s video when they made the valentine baskets for Granny. That was so sweet. Those girls are so loving and caring. Granny will never forget it.
I’ve never had the opportunity to eat much venison, but I am sure this soup is delicious—I would definitely try it!!! I’ll bet venison dumplings would be delicious, too!!!!! I make chicken noodle soup and chicken and dumplings all the time. I always add a bag of frozen peas and carrots to my chicken noodle soup.
I just loved the girls video about giving Granny valentine gifts—so precious. I am excited for you for finding your long lost Christmas gift. I can’t wait to see how your plants do in your mini greenhouse.
We love deer meat. I made a meatloaf out of ground venison the other night and it was a hit with hubby. The noodle soup looks so good. I will have to try it as soon as I get some noodles. We are still getting snow this morning. Yesterday our weather went from 58 degrees to raining and wind gusts and then snow. We had wind gusts of 70 mph go through. An electric pole blew down on someone’s house about a half mile from us, so we were without power for about 9 hours. I hope everyone is safe and warm this morning. The snow is absolutely beautiful.
That soup does look tasty and simple to prepare. I was thinking some finely chopped carrots might be a nice addition.
I watched your video about making this soup. It looked delicious. I have a lot of ground venison from last deer season and I’m going to make this recipe.
I am scared of beef, venison or anything else high in purines. But maybe I could make it with chicken?
Ed-I think chicken would be delicious too 🙂
I saw that video. it looked so good.
