sweet bread on a plate

Once January rolls around I feel the need to decrease my dessert cooking from the warp speed of the holidays, but not before I make one more sweet treat.

I can’t recall how I stumbled onto the recipe for Sweet Orange Cinnamon Pull Apart Bread, but I’ve been making it for the last four years. We always have an abundance of oranges at Christmas, so the recipe is perfect for using up some of the produce.

Typically I make the bread on New Year’s Day, so I’ll be baking it on Wednesday this year.

Each bite has an explosion of orange flavor. I’ve come to think of the dessert as the last hurrah of the old year ringing in the new.

If you’d like to see how the bread is made go here.

  1. The church that I grew up in always had a big Christmas program. Afterward, one of the deacons would dress up as Santa so all the kids could tell him what they wanted and then everyone got a brown paper bag with candy, an apple, and an orange — and this was in the ’70’s! The church we currently attend still hands them out – I love the tradition!

  2. This sounds like a tasty dessert but after seeing my Husband gain about 10 pounds through the holidays, I’m going to wait awhile to make anymore sweets. He can’t leave them alone.

  3. Tipper,
That orange-cinnamon pull-apart bread looks so good. I bet it’s Sweet too, especially with the sugar-cinnamon and cream cheese poured over it. I can tell I’d like that, because I love Cinnamon.

I have threatened to get those Pillsbury canisters at Ingles, but haven’t yet. …Ken

  4. That sounds so good. I seem to just keep increasing my liking for anything citrus. And my wife already makes good yeasty cinnamon rolls so is probably halfway there. We are also tending toward less sugar. I have not yet looked at the recipe but I can predict I would want to start adding zest of lemon and/or lime. I’ll be sure to share this with her, though once we get back to just the two of us it doesn’t make as much sense to bake much.
