There’s a new hot drink being made at our house and we really like it.
I’ve heard of golden milk for years but never tried it until a few weeks ago. Chitter has modified her diet because of nursing Ira and his various allergies to food. The first recipe I tried for golden milk used coconut milk which meant she could drink it too. You can see our first attempt here.
Since then I’ve tried a few other variations. Chatter can only have golden milk made with a base of coconut milk or some other non dairy milk, but The Deer Hunter and I agree golden milk made with whole milk is the best.
If you do a quick internet search you’ll find all sorts of recipes, but I’ll share the simple one I’ve been using.
- whole milk
- fresh grated ginger or dried
- fresh grated turmeric or dried
- a dash or so of black pepper (helps your body absorb the turmeric)
- maple syrup to taste
Pour milk into a pot, add ginger, turmeric, and pepper and heat until desired warmness. Stir in maple syrup and enjoy! If using fresh ginger and turmeric you might want to strain the milk before serving. An immersion blender or such to froth up the top of the drink makes for a nice presentation.
I had to play around with the amount of ginger and turmeric. The first time I made golden milk it was on the strong side. For two fairly large cups of golden milk I add about a half of a tablespoon or maybe a little more of grated ginger and turmeric.
The drink is really warm and satisfying and the health benefits of ginger and turmeric are many.
I don’t recall Miss Cindy ever talking about golden milk, but I know she would have liked it. She drank strong ginger tea every morning.

So so sorry to hear about Granny but I know she in heaven with your Dad sing together. Sending prayers and Gods loving arm around you for comfort.
Can’t wait to try it!
I can’t wait to try this. Need to get to the grocery for turmeric today. I, too, loved to watch you all go sledding. 10 years ago I’d have been right beside you but the difference between 58 and 68 hasn’t been fun. Two new knees, ankle repair, shoulder surgeries and back surgery took their toll. My body just decided one day to fall apart! lol I’m just grateful to God that the technologies and surgeons to repair me were given to us. Now I sit outside and watch my grandkids play and laugh and giggle right along with them. You and your family bring joy to my life and let me vicariously live my younger days again. Thanks be to you and God.
Ahh perfect, thank you. MiaRosie
Can’t wait to try the golden milk! Thanks for the recipe!
I looked for a recipe after watching you last night. The one I found had more spices(turmeric powder, cardamom, clove, cinnamon stick, peppercorns, star anise, vanilla, fresh ginger, coconut oil, honey)
but a pretty mild taste. Something I’ll need to tweek to get just right. It is delicious!
This recipe sounds yummy. I am a big milk lover anyway. I really enjoyed your video last evening and also the one this morning. Watching them and reading the blog is like visiting an old friend. Keep up the good work!
Good morning Miss Tipper! Is that a half a tablespoon each of grated turmeric and ginger? Hope you have a great day. Loved the video last night, I watched it on the tv.
TeresaSue-yes or just add enough for your taste 🙂
I learn something every day. Never heard of this beverage, but I love the regular dairy product–2%, pasteurized, please. ..not that I wouldn’t try golden if offered to me. We always had a milk cow when I was growing up, so raw milk was the thing back then.
The only hot drink I drink, or probably ever will, is coffee. Pure unadulterated coffee. No sugar, no cream, no milk. Sugar and dairy have their place but it’s not in my one and only hot drink. My recipe is:
Some Coffee
Some Water
A $20 Mr. Coffee from Walmart
A filter
Cup (free from Fastenal)
Ed, I am in full agreement with you except for wanting a teaspoon of sugar and just enough milk to barely change the color. The only other hot drink would be hot chocolate, but I seldom drink it. 1-2 cups in the morning and I am done with coffee for the day. Please, please don’t give me hot tea but I will take you up on a glass of sweet ice tea.
I love golden milk. I have been using a mix from Paleo valley. It has coconut milk in it. I just add hot water but it’s very expensive for me so I’m going to try your way when I run out of the mix.
Thanks
When my Mother-in-law got older she “called the roll” quite often. My wife would tell her to have me do something and she would come to me and say that one of her other daughters said for me to do so and so. My response was usually, “I don’t take orders from her.” Then she would usually name one or two others before she got to my wife’s name. Maybe the hound of senility is sneaking up and nipping at your heels occasionally.
Thanks for the tips and recipe! Going to try this soon!
❤️
We are making sausage from some pigs of ours today, and I’m planning to can some the way you showed in some older posts. Blind Pig and the Acorn has given me so many good recipes and tips!
I’d not heard of golden milk till I saw your video about it. I know ginger and turmeric are good for you. I may have to give this a try.
good morning friends, God bless you, I recently started a GoFundMe account, to help me pay the winter power bills, praise God I received some donations, I will be going to the power company this morning to pay the total amount of the donations to the power bill, maybe it will cover a few bills for the next few months, praise God
Okay, so I’m confused now. I thought Katie was Chitter and Corie was Chatter. I know that Ira belongs to Katie and Katie is on the special diet. I’m so confused. Of course I spend a good part of my time confused, so I guess that’s nothing unusual
Good job on the video last night. I meant to leave a comment that I love sitting and listening to you and Matt tell stories. Hope you all have a good week.
Doug-thank you for catching my typo! So glad you enjoyed the video 🙂
I thought Chatter was Woodrow’s mother.
Cathy-thank you for catching my typo 🙂 and for reading!!
I’ve seen you make this a couple times now. I think I’d like the one with the coconut milk. I haven’t drank whole milk in years. When I have tried to drink whole milk it feels so thick and gloopy .
Thanks for sharing. I will be trying this. I can’t have coffee for a couple of reasons, heart and bladder, and I don’t like hot tea…until recently. I found ‘chocolate coniption’ by Farmhouse Teas. It’s a not coffee, coffee alternative and it does quench the part of me that desires coffee. She also has a harvest berry tea blend and if I add Kal Stevia drops and a bit of vanilla creamer to it tastes like drinking a blackberry cobbler with ice cream in a cup. It is a bit pricey, but for me is worth it. I don’t drink it ever day because of the price, but it is a wonderful treat. I’m always looking for hot drinks in the winter months, so I will definitely be trying this Tipper! Hope y’all have a wonderful day! Blessings to all!
I thought I had straight which girl was which until last nights live and Corie said she is Chatter—I am always impressed with you and your energy and how you help Mat with everything (last nights wood disposal of trees he cut) but I think the most amazed of your energy came when watching you sled. you kept running up that hill over and over and over. you had me breathing hard after the first walk/run up the hill lol if I can get brave I will try this milk–I am sure it would be good for me
Oh, gaylia green, I don’t often comment, but couldn’t resist this morning when you mentioned Tipper’s sledding experience! I was amazed also! It seemed like the more she ran up the hill, the more energy she got. I remember thinking……..”Wow, why didn’t I start counting at the beginning?” It was wonderful seeing her having so much fun!!
