Here’s more winners from my Thankful November giveaways. If you see your name please send your mailing address to me at blindpigandtheacorn @ gmail.com

The winner of the used book Dorie Woman of the Mountains is MA Mott who said: “We used to gather them on our way home from school. We made necklaces out of them. Would love a copy of Dorie’s book. Thank you.”

The winner of the used book The Queen’s English is Jay Skinner who said: “Love this blog and your YouTube channel!! I recently purchased the Dictionary of Smokey Mountain English and absolutely love the language! Hope to be moving to the Smoky’s in the not too distant future! Keep doing what you do!!.”

The winner of the used book Appalachian Values is Gene Smith who said: “Picturesque speech is universally appreciated because it is both humorous and descriptive. Who knows where the phrase “eating high on the hog” came from? Everybody knows what it means. Or “as ugly as a mud fence.” Or “grinning like a jackass eating briars.” Or “He’s so lazy he wouldn’t strike a lick at a snake.” Or “Root, hog, or die pore” I heard all of these, and more, growing up. Some are not fit to print.”

Last week I was a guest on the podcast Appalachian Imagination. If you’re interested in hearing the conversation you can go here.

Since so many folks enjoy my weekly readings I decided to add a Christmas book to the lineup. I posted the first video from the book The Christmas Barn last night. Here’s the link.

  1. Congratulations to all the winners! Enjoy your treasures. Tipper, we are so thankful for you and your blog, all year around. I look forward to reading it and all the comments every day. Please keep on helping us to remember the good old days so we can make more of them for our kids to look back on.

  2. Congratulations to all the winners, hope they enjoy the books they won. I went over and listened to your interview on the Appalachian Imagination Podcast Miss Tipper and it was great. So much of what you said stood out to me, but especially when you were talking about when you were growing up that y’all DIDN’T HAVE MUCH MONEY, BUT YALL HAD A LOT OF LOVE!! By saying that and having that Love, y’all were much richer than anyone with a million dollars in the bank. Thanks again for what you do for us all on this platform!!

  3. I purposely did not comment on most of these giveaway blog posts. I read every one of them and read most of the comments. I have been subscribed for well over a decade and have been gifted much more than I deserve. For me to win one of these giveaways would be like preaching to the choir. I am Appalachian to the bone, even to the very marrow. Many of the books I already own and have read. Many of the situations in those books, I have lived and continue to live. These giveaways are going to be of more benefit to the preservation of our culture if they are in the hands of individuals who are uneducated or have been misled about these lives we choose to live.

  4. Congratulations to all of the winners! Loved the reading last night. It’s so nice that you would include a Christmas book in addition to the Friday night reading. Fixing to go watch the podcast. Thank you for everything that you do and for taking us all on the journey!! Have a great day everyone!!

  5. Congratulations to all the winners, hope they enjoy the books they won. I also went and listened to your interview on the Appalachian Imagination podcast Miss Tipper and it was great. You said a lot that stood out to me, but one of the main things you said about your childhood growing up was WE DIDN’T HAVE MUCH MONEY BUT WE HAD A LOT OF LOVE!! In saying that and having the LOVE y’all shared you were richer than the guy with millions of dollars in the bank. ❤️❤️

Thanks again for all you do on here for us all. ❤️❤️

  6. Congratulations to the winners of your generous give a ways. That was a very kind and generous thing for you and your family to do.

  7. I grew up with the “descriptive” speech and just saw it as normal conversation, I took formal Spanish in college and learned, Prenda la luz”. for turn on the lights. Then I encountered Hispanic people that said, “Abierta la luz.” I thought, “Open the light?” Then I realized people all over the world probably do the same thing. My wife’s mother said, “Cut that light on and cut that light out.”

  8. Congrats to all the November winners! Hope all of y’all enjoy your books. They are treasures for sure! Blessings and Merry Christmas to each of you!!!

  9. I just love reading, and watching Tipper and her family. She inspires me in all that she does. Her thanksgiving preparation, and dinner was heavenly. It looked like ones our family had when I was growing up. Seems like when the matriarch and patriarch pass then do do traditions. I am so glad your girls work side by side with you to keep your Appalachian traditions going. I would love to visit you if I ever get your way. Thank you.

  10. Winners winners!!! Chicken dinners!!! Congratulations all and may each of you have a blessed Christmas season!!! Know Jesus know peace. No Jesus no peace.

  11. Seems to me you can’t confine your giving to November (smile). I think that a giving heart is one of the most wonderful character traits to have. You are actually giving all year and were for a long time before your “bread on the waters” returned to you by more than gaining a host of distant friends. Doubtless those acorns who won a memento will by it be reminded also of the something greater it represents. I’m gonna have to ponder on that today in this giving season.

  12. Love your interview on the Podcast! My husband’s grandmother, who was so inspirational to me, lived to be 94, and she would often say “why I wouldn’t be nervous to speak to the president” ….haha …..we’ll whether or not YOU might be nervous to speak to the president, I’m 100% sure you’d be just your wonderful self and nothing else, so thank you!

  13. I love to hear the girls play music. Have any of your family been to Renfro Valley in Kentucky? They have a theater there. I went to many concerts there when I lived in the area including a Bluegrass Festival. My favorite music along with Mountain music.

  14. I am thrilled to have won Dorie Woman of the Mountains! I couldn’t find your contact info on here so I wrote to you on Instagram as peachie6560. I hope that works for getting my address to you. I so enjoyed your reading of this book. I have moved a lot in my life, but I am sure Dorie’s family beat me! Amazing.

  15. Before retiring my husband worked at a heating and cooling business. He had to answer the phone where people from all up and down the east coast would call with orders. Many times the caller would ask him if they could put him on speaker phone so that others in their office could hear him talk. They all got a big kick when they heard him. They thought it was really funny when he would ask ” where bouts you from” or hear him say “where in the Sam hill did I loose my pancil”. We’re at the end of the Appalachias in Alabama and proud to be here. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

    1. Someone I know who lived for a time in India said the women at the call centers there loved to get an American Southerner on the line. They could always tell it seems. I prefer to take that as a handsome complement, as a badge of character.

  16. Congratulations to all the winners of your 2022 Thankful November giveaways! They received some pretty neat new treasures!!! Also, thank you for the story last night! I didn’t catch it until this morning. I enjoyed it!! I have listened to half the podcast from last week, and will finish it later today. It was a good interview! I hope you are having a great week so far, Tipper!

    Donna. : )
