collage of photos of family

Here’s more winners from my Thankful November giveaways. If you see your name please send your mailing address to me at blindpigandtheacorn @ gmail.com

The winner of Chatter’s maroon pumpkin is Jackie who said “Your family has a lot of talent, crafts, music, etc. That pumpkin would make a nice Christmas gift.”

The winner of the used book Great Smoky Mountains Wildflowers is Tammye R. who said: “I just finished cross stitching 12 Appalachian wildflower squares I’m putting in a quilt for a friend who lives in Boone and is a wildflower lover. It would make a great companion to that quilt, if I can get it finished!”

The winner of the used book The Doll Maker is Fred McPeek who said: “I remember when I was about 10 years old visiting Grandpa and Grandma Shuman when early one evening we were sitting on the porch and we heard a car coming up the hollow. We could also seeing the red clay dust stirred up as it grew nearer. It turned out it was my grandpa’s brother George who I had never met and had not been back home for more than 30 years. His wife Aunt Helen was a short plump lady with her fading red hair curled up in a bun and with only 1 tooth in her mouth. Hard to believe but that sweet old lady became one of the best friends this 10 year old ever had. We remained close and wrote each other till she passed away when I was about 18. That old car brought me such happiness that day. I’d love to have a copy of The Doll Maker.”

The winner of Chatter’s blue and red pumpkins is Diane Crist who said “Would love these. I always cherish the time & talent of those who can crochet.”

The winer of the “Songs of Christmas” cd is Tommy Goff who said “I’ve really enjoyed the train series! My Grandad worked for the railroad in southeast Kentucky, so trains have always been fascinating to me. For some reason, trains and bluegrass (mountain) music seem to go hand in hand and I love them both!”

The winner of my eCookbook Favorite Recipes from Appalachia is Stephany who said: “We have enjoyed and learned so much from your cooking videos and posts! I still can’t seem to make biscuits right. But we love how you connect the vegetable garden to cooking in the kitchen, like the Cushaws. I’m always learning something new about Appalachian foodways!” (Stephany I only need your email address.)

There are two folks who I haven’t heard from so I’ll share their names and prizes again in the hopes that they see them and send me their mailing address.

The winner of Chatter’s soap is Kelly Cannon who said: “I really liked the videos y’all did on making soap! I’ll have to watch again I would like to try making soap. Glad Corie does.”

The winner of Chatter’s green pumpkin is Colleen Moore who said: “I love your website. I watch you on YouTube all the time and just realized you have this website!! Guess I’m a slow learner lol. Love you Tipper.”

  3. Aww… congrats to each and every winner, I think they will cherish all their little goodies just as you cherish all your Christmas ornaments Tipper! It’s so nice of you, but I’m sure you want them to feel like you did when you were gifted something like your ornaments! These last 30 days have been the happiest month ever for me, knowing I’m retired this Christmas, hosting family at Thanksgiving, finally meeting our second grandchild which is a little girl (&first in the family) and truly wanting to reconnect with yesteryear (thanks to you Tipper,) just generally loving life more than ever THANK YOU JESUS, my Lord and Savior who has blessed me above anything I could’ve fathomed!

  4. Hi Tipper I won Chatter’s pumpkin. I put my address on your facebook page. Thank you so much!!!! I am thrilled. I have never won anything in my life!!!!

  5. Congratulations to all the winners of the prizes! Really all us readers are truly winners every day to be blessed with just getting to read some decent writings of good things that bring smiles to our faces and sweet memories. Thanks Tipper for being so faithful in posting your blog and vlog.

  6. You are always so organized and dependable. That comes with a price–your time. Congrats to the winners, and your yearly giveaways add some joy to many as we get into some bleak cold days. I am enjoying catching the Pressleygirls on YouTube in addition to Celebrating Appalachia. They are so real and natural and not afraid to be totally themselves. I am amazed how different their appearance and the difference in their personalities. For years I had to see who was holding the fiddle and who had the guitar to tell them apart Now I wonder how I had trouble telling who was who.

  7. Congratulations to all of the winners! I know they will enjoy their gifts. Last night’s reading was so enjoyable. Tipper, you really know how to pick some good books. Thank you.

  8. Congratulations to all winners. I was so curious about the Sourwood Honey you all were talking about I ordered some on Etsy, it finally got here, all the way from Hamptonville, NC. I got to go make some biscuits now. 😉

  9. Special congratulations to the Thankful November winners. (We acorns are each winners here, thanks to Tipper and the whole BP&A gang.)

Randy, I have read “The Dash” and thanks for the reminder to work at making our lives meaningful between birth and departure. I heard Lew Holtz talk about it once also. As you have mentioned before, I think mine and your minds might run along similar tracks, at least on some subjects. So if you ever wondered, you are not quite alone. (Smile)

  10. Thanks for not only sharing daily life in Appalachia, but gifting physical reminders of stories, talents, and craftsmanship of your own family and many others. So very gracious, Tipper. Congratulations to all the winner’s; enjoy!

  11. I discovered you while searching for recipes, I so enjoy simply watching your family interact with one another. I enjoy the recipes you take time to share on YouTube. Matt reminds me of my husband, my husband is from the blue ridge mountains of Virginia. He too hunts and fishes, he trapped as a young man, I tease him all the time and call him Daniel Boon. He is smart about the out of doors, as well as survival skills. I myself grew up in the city and he teases me that he took me out of the bright lights.
Thank you for sharing your heritage and skills with others, I look forward to watch another YouTube. Blessing on you and yours.

  12. It warms my heart to see how devoted the followers of the Blind Pig are. I’ve watch it grow and blossom from day one. Tipper you are amazing! I know how much you love Appalachia and you have spent untold hours introducing it to the rest of the world.
Thank you, you’ve done a magnificent job!

  13. It’s so sweet to see the list of winners for your giveaways, you all are a family of wonderful kind thoughtful people!!

  14. I watch you and your family on YouTube. Y’all are wonderful folks. I wish we were back gate neighbors. I found you here while looking for recipes. Thank you for all you do. God bless you and Merry Christmas!

  15. Congratulations to all of the winners.
This is for Ron Stephens and his reply or comment on yesterday’s blog about being remembered. Google and read The Dash Poem by Linda Ellis.

    1. Randy, I’m sending this comment to you but for anyone that hasn’t read “The Dash” by Linda Ellis, I suggest you do. It really gives us all something to think about. Thanks for mentioning it.

    2. Randy, I was unaware of the book The Dash. I looked it up and now can’t wait to purchase and read it. I am the family genealogist and at times am obsessed with crawling thru old cemeteries, libraries and court houses searching for family history. I never heard it expressed about the “dash” but it has saddened me that all I can find about most of my ancestors is their birth and death dates. I have been lucky enough to find one ancestor who fought in the French and Indian War, two ancestors who were soldiers in the American Revolution, one in the War of 1812 and two in the Civil War on the Union side. One died in Philadelphia (my gg grandfather Lemuel McPeek) and is buried there. The funniest name I’ve come across to date is a ggg grandfather who was named COONROD Baker. As hard as I try I cannot get a single family member to name a new child Coonrod. LOL
One thing I’ve been determined to do is to make sure that my parent’s “dash” will be filled in. Tipper has helped make that possible by giving me this forum to share just how decent and hardworking my parents were.
I’d be interested in knowing the most unusual name that other “Acorns” have found in their families.

  16. Wow…congrats to all the winners, and you truly are winners. Just watched your Friday ‘read’ and once again, or continuing, enjoyed every word. You never disappoint in your choice. God Bless
