Heavy Dew in the Mountains

The mountains of southern Appalachia experience heavy dews. I’m thankful for dew all the time but especially during dry spells in the summer months.

Fog has been so thick over the last week that the weather service has issued warnings due to low visibility on roadways.

Yesterday morning I was out in the garden early and was able to admire the fog rising through the holler as well as the ample dew coating every thing with moisture.

The dew was heavy enough that I could hear it dripping down the gutter spouts.

Folklore tells us that washing your face in the morning dew can make you more attractive and even remove your freckles 🙂 I might have tried that one when I was a girl if I’d heard it. I was awful embarrassed about my freckles that intensified every summer. Once Granny told me they were angel kisses I never fretted about them again.

Miss Cindy summed up dew pretty good when she left this comment back in 2022.

“Dew is like magic! It comes out of the darkness and disappears in the daylight and each time helping all the plants just a little before disappearing in the day light!”
