Can you believe it was March when I last updated you on the Blind Pig & the Acorn Etsy Shop?…
I remember when the girls were sick and you had to fill their place round the May Pole!
Wow! I haven’t seen a maypole in what I’m realizing is a VERY long time (ouch). I didn’t know anyone still did this. I think it’s lovely & downright wonderful. Hope you let us see more-my birthday is on the 2nd & when I was little I thought I was so lucky to have such a fabulous birthday celebration. Still do!
Tipper,
Love the picture…I remember being a carrier of a May pole ribbon (I think it was crepe paper) when I was in elementary school. That was many, many years ago…I am trying to remember how it proceded…seems that as you go around the pole one goes under and one goes over..I do remember the kids laughing as the crepe ribbon twisted…Would love to see the video…
I think all my boys remember about May is crappie fishing in the lake tree tops!..By that time a lot of crappie are on the nest and with a minnow you can pull out some big Mammas! ha
“Pinch and a punch for the first of the month!”, was a favorite teasing game in the Spring, that I remember too…ha
Thanks Tipper,
no maypole but I did awake early on the lst of May to find that my then 6-year-old daughter had gone out even earlier around the neighborhood and picked fresh flowers to make me a May basket! When I told her shouldn’t take flowers from people’s yards she told me it was okay ’cause she knocked on the door and asked if she could have them.
ohh tipper i love that .. i would love to see a real maypole.. such a wonderful tradition to celebrate springs beginnings.. thanks so much for sharing… and as always much love to you and yours

it is hard to believe it is time again already, just seems a couple months ago we were seeing photos of all the may pole fun from last year…time screams by!
i will be leaving for the westside of kauai on may 8th..i am so excited about spending a little over 6 weeks with victoria! she has so many things planned for us 🙂
Unique picture, lovely colors!
It doesn’t even feel like May should be just around the corner…but I’m happy it is 🙂
I do not really have a comment, except to say I really wish we had a dancing around the Maypole event around here! I think its so neat. My big question is.. how to get that pole up in the ground!? haha! I am trying to organize a Celtic Highlands game and festival here, and I am thinking that that might fit.. but, I guess I better do some more research, I might be wrong!
I can remember having a May Pole when I was in grade school. The along came the cold war and that practice was stopped.
It is a shame to give up a custom because another country has adopted that date as theirs.
love that view of the ribbons. waiting to see the dance
I love this photo, Tipper. The contrasting colors are wonderful.
Oh, I would live to see this!
I remember in school we used to do a maypole every year : ) I don’t even think my grandkids know what a may pole is ….
