I’m 56 years young today. It’s the first birthday I’ve ever spent without my dear mother who brought me into this world. I miss her.

What a blessed life I’ve lived thus far. I’m aiming to make it to 100 but I don’t know if that’s the plan the Good Lord has for me. I do know he has blessed me beyond measure.

My first blessing happened on this day all those years ago. I was born into a family who loved me without question. A family who taught me about God. A family who has always stood at the ready when I am in need.

I’m blessed with a good husband, wonderful children, an amazing son-n-law, and two adorable grandsons. I’m blessed with the two best brothers in the world and with other family members and many friends.

I’m also blessed to have all of you. Blessed to work with a willing hand doing what I love to do every day of the world.

I can never repay the Lord for sending His son for my sins nor for the many blessings of my life but I want to want to try my best for Him.

Matt and the girls have a special day planned for me, but I’ve told them they don’t need to do anything special. Every day of this life is a gift.

Thank you in advance for the kindness and good wishes I know you’ll share with me. You are also a gift to me!

My Mom’s birthday is August 11th , this will be her 8th birthday spent in Heaven, but those first birthdays without your sweet mom being there are truly the most difficult. I know that with Matt. your girls, and those sweet young boys coming up, you’ll be surrounded by love on your day. Concerning living to be 100, back when my wife was living and my life was so much happier, I liked to joke and say my ambition in life was to live to be 100 and then get shot by a jealous husband or boyfriend. BTW, I wish I could turn back the time to when I was 56, I could still get around and do whatever I want to do. Again, Happy Birthday!

  65. Happy Birthday Tipper! Your words and your faith are inspiring to me especially as I too lost my mother this year on May 8th and my birthday is August 31st. I had already told my husband I would be sad when my birthday comes because the woman who gave birth to me was gone, and didn’t plan on even acknowledging the day. I will be turning 55 so we are also similar in age. Thank you so much for this post. I will be re-reading it on my birthday as a wonderful reminder! I am a child of God and I need to focus on my blessings on my birthday and every day! Grief is very difficult but we can do all things through Christ! Thank you! Your words are uplifting!   72. Happy 56th Birthday Tipper! May your birthday be amazing and fun-filled, and may God grant you all your heart desires today! May they continue all the days of your life. I know this birthday is bittersweet for you. God has been very good to you. You’re very lucky to have the loving family that you have and I hope you can enjoy the day and celebrate it with them knowing your parents both of them are in your heart. They certainly are watching over you and want you to be happy! I know that sounds easier said than done. Just keep being who you are and the love and support that you have around you will make each every birthday a great one. I hope you make it to 100 you’ll get card from the President that’s what I’ve been telling my mom because her birthday was Saturday. She was 96. Though I am just joking. But it’s tough as we age we lose more people we love and I guess that just part of God‘s plan and we have to get used to it. My parents were wonderful. I have a wonderful brother. Not everyone gets to have a wonderful happy life like you and I. I’m very aware of that of people who don’t and I often try to help as many people to lift them up as much as I possibly can nothing’s perfect of course but it’s as least as perfect as can be. I actually feel that’s part of my reason for being on this earth is to help other people make their life better in anyway I can especially if they’re struggling.   119. Happy birthday Tipper. I hadn’t really thought about it before, but you are quite close to my daughter’s age. Just as you miss your mother I miss her mother. I suspect, as is the case with me, there’s not a day goes by that you don’t somehow think of her, often in the strangest ways or for no seeming reason. You have her house just down the hill as an additional trigger to memory. I have even more of a catalyst–I’m in the house of memory.
    But as Daddy said in a message to the church congregation a few month’s after Mom’s death, “life goes on.” For him I suspect it was one of the toughest things he ever had to do, because he wasn’t someone to say much in front of a crowd, and he was intensely inward looking in many ways.
    Amidst all this, I know your day will be bittersweet, but may the sweet outweigh the sad.

God has loved me now for 78 years and has kept me through many storms. You do have a wonderful family that loves you dearly. I see that in all your videos. Your mother was an amazing mom.     Since I can’t call and sing this to you, it is the best I can offer. There was a lady in our church, Mrs. Bertha Taylor, who called every member on their birthday and sang this to them. Her voice was kinda old and creaky , but the day just wasn’t complete without her call. She would chat for a couple of minutes and that would be it until a year rolled around again.
    When she died the entire church stood and sang Happy Birthday at her funeral…..and why not, for it was her birthday to begin an eternal life with her Lord. Her ministry may have been simple…but it was powerful.

  182. Happy birthday, Tipper! God leads us to His people to help us in this life and He has led me to you and your family. You have blessed me so much since I found you about three years ago. We have a lot in common. I did not grow up in Letcher County KY where I was born but in northeastern Ohio. Talk about a culture clash. I’ve often wished I had but God had other plans for me. So that is one of the reasons I enjoy watching you and look your family. You remind me of my family in the way you speak, the kind of food you eat, your mannerisms, and your love of God and family.     I remember the first birthday without my mom, it’s been four years now and it’s still hard… it seems our birthdays began with them and it feels impossible to have one without them…don’t listen today because it will make you cry but the song by the Coon Creek Girls sums it up so well… “Who Will Pray For Me When Mama’s Gone?” another comforting one I have found is “Heaven’s Lucky To Have You, So Was I”
    What a gift we have already received to be born into loving families with mothers who loved us so well.

I will add having good health to work, many years I would work without missing a day because of sickness. My parents taught me about God and to always put Him first in my life.
