This summer we saved the last picking of beans on the vine for seed. The pods have been drying out on the porch.
I find it relaxing to shell out beans by hand and that’s what I usually do, but with so many to deal with this year I put them in an old pillow case and beat the fire out of them 🙂
There was so many the thrashing took a while, but it was way faster than doing it by hand.
We saved seed from Ed’s bean, but I failed to take a photo. We didn’t have near as many of them because they didn’t do as good for us this year.
The reddish beans in the photo are Mother Stallard which has become my favorite of all the varieties we’ve grown over the years.
The white beans are Grammy Beans. A subscriber shared them with us several years back and we really like their taste and the way they produce. They are similar to a white half runner bean.
