Thankful November Winners

December 2, 2024

Today I’m sharing the rest of the Thankful November winners…well almost. There are three more giveaways to announce with the last one ending on Wednesday.

Winners

The winners of flawed copies of Celebrating Southern Appalachian Food written by Jim Casada and Tipper Pressley are:

Karen Galloway who said: “My family always looked forward at Christmas to my aunt’s black walnut cake. Unfortunately I don’t have her recipe. I do have her pound cake recipe that people also greatly enjoy. I freeze my ripe bananas, that work well in making smoothies and baking.”

Tommy who said: “I like black walnuts but boy are they hard to shell! Also like banana but just never cared for the bread, unless it’s loaded with nuts.”

Kathy who said: “Love Pumpkin Pie and would love a copy of youy cookbook. Kathy”

Alexandra who said: “I’ve only attempted to make pumpkin pie once in my life and it was a disaster. My grandma was having health issues at the time, so the task of making it was on me. l I just couldn’t get the crust to roll out into anything that even resembled a circle (unlike my grandma, she was a skilled baker). Something I forgot my grandma did until my sister reminded me, is she used to make all of her pies from scratch (a feat I can only aspire to)! We’ve been buying our pumpkin pies since she passed, but as you can imagine, Thanksgiving just isn’t the same without her. I hope everyone who reads this has a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!”

The winner of American Mountain People is Leslie who said: “Our mountains have a way of grounding you. I can’t imagine a day when I didn’t see this beauty surrounding us. Blessed indeed!”

The winner of It’s Not My Mountain Anymore written by Barbara Taylor Woodall is Judy who said: “I planted mint once and it spread throughout my backyard. My yard smelled great, especially after the grass (and mint) was mowed!”

The winner of The Foxfire Book of Appalachian Women is Jo who said: “My Granny was a wonderful Appalachian woman. Her homemade remedies included different types of plants and roots. Later in life, I learned they were similar to things the Native Americans used to treat ailments. But Vicks Vapor Rub was the magic potion. She would rub it all over my throat and chest, pile 10 quilts on top of me until I couldn’t move, then stick a little bit on my tongue!”

The winner of the cd The Wilson Brothers At the John C. Campbell Folk School & On Radio is Pat Lavender who said: “There is nothing better than the old time folk music! I could listen to this forever. Such a treat.”

The winner of Appalachia The Voices Of Sleeping Birds written by Cynthia Rylant is Regina S. who said: “Congratulations to all the winners!”

The winner of the cd Shepherd Of My Soul with a cracked case is Barbara Parker who said: “Good music and good talking. Thanks for sharing this.”

The winner of Dorie Woman of the Mountains written by Florence Cope Bush is Jennifer Lee who said: “Prayers up for the Evans family and for Mr. Dave and family too. My son has suffered a major heart attack just over a year ago he was dead for about 7 minutes but praise the Lord he was revived and is now doing quite well. I know that prayers are what saved him and the wonderful team of doctors and nurses. Continue to pray fervently for those in need. I remember buckeyes as a child. I believe I’ve actually seen them or had them around me back in the day. The book sounds so interesting. Would love to read it myself. If not I’ll continue to listen to Miss. Tippers readings. Enjoy the food and fellowship this Thanksgiving. God bless everyone this Thanksgiving and always. J”

A couple of winners I haven’t heard from are:

The winner of flawed copy of Celebrating Southern Appalachian Food written by Jim Casada and Tipper Pressley is Patricia H who said: “I’ve been wanting your cookbook for quite some time and would be very thankful for a copy.”

The winner of our Songs of Christmas cd with the broken case is Paul who said: “I’ll be longing to see you. Oh wow! You are the called. I love it.”

Winners please send your mailing address to me at blindpigandtheacorn@gmail.com and I’ll get your book or cd to you.

  1. I am so delighted and surprised that I won “Shepherd of My Soul” and I am thankful! Tonight I watched The Blind Pig and the Acorn on you tube tv while I cooked supper and it is such a pleasure to be able to see you all celebrate while doing Thanksgiving preparations and cooking good food the Appalachian way. I hope to begin gathering the greens from outside this week. First I want to get my house cleaned up real nice. I love doing that and I love to decorate my porch and house as much as I can. When I was younger I pulled out everything I could find to decorate the porch and house with and this Christmas I hope to do as much as I can to let my little lights shine! Watching your videos gets me excited and looking forward to Christmas. I’ve already been seeing some Christmas lights lit up this early in the month and it gives me a thrill. I like to watch and see when I see the first Christmas tree riding on top of someone’s car before Christmas. I want to paint at least one Christmas painting this year. If I could paint it pretty enough I would love to send one to you too because you help me so much and I love you and your family. Please hug Granny for me and tell her that I love her bunches!

  2. praise God everybody, Jesus Christ is coming soon, God bless my Granny Wilson, God bless those that pray for Mike Evans, his services was this past Saturday, thank you and God bless you

  4. Congratulations to the winners and thank you Tipper for doing the Thankful November give away each year and for all the other wonderful things in Appalachia that you share with us. Now as we move forward into the Christmas season, let’s continue to pray for all the people still affected by Helene. Thanks also to you, Corie and Katie for helping get the word out about just how bad things really are. Watching some of those videos of the devastation that is still going on breaks my heart. Prayers for all involved.

  5. I’ll be heading off to add all those books to my Amazon list! Hope you all are staying warm. It’s 17 degrees here today!

  6. Congratulations to all the winners!!! Thank you, Tipper for all you do for your family, friends, community and online friends communities. We all love you!

  7. Congrats to all the winners and thank you Tipper for all you do! I guess you could call me a copycat when it comes to reading books you have posted about throughout the years. Most of the time I could get a used copy from eBay bookstores. Some cost a pretty penny but all were well worth it, especially the Foxfire Books I first heard about on The Blind Pig and The Acorn. The recipes posted here gave me another reason to be a copycat. I had to try them all! My printer worked overtime until I ordered my copy of Celebrating Southern Appalachian Food.

  8. Congratulations to all the winners; and thanks to all who make this daily read another welcoming adventure……..

  9. Congratulations to all the winners! I know we are all winners every day we read the BP&A and get to peak into Tipper’s Appalachia- learning interesting history and southern Appalachian culture! Winner winner chicken dinner! ☃️

  10. Congratulations to everyone! Thank you Pressley family, one and all for all you share! God bless you and yours! Praying for all in natural disasters! Praying daily for those who lost lived ones and everything else.

  11. Congratulations all!! I just want you to know that it’s such a treat to get to hear your brother Paul and your mother sing together! I lost my mom several years ago and I miss her terribly. Your mom reminds me of my mom. They even resemble! Thanks for sharing them with us all!

  12. Congratulations to all the winners. Like Larry Eddings wrote, I am thankful for Tipper, the blog, and the other members. I am often awake at 4 o’clock and have learned I can go back to yesterday’s posting and see what today’s will be. I feel like I often “over do my welcome” by making too many comments. Now reading the BP&A is one of the few things I still enjoy, the regular members know what I mean by writing this.

  13. Congratulations Everyone! Tipper your so kind to do these giveaways.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. I watched your Thanksgiving video and saw that you suffer from dry hands. I have for years. My go to is:
I dampen my hands, rub Neosporin all over them and put on gloves. I wear it over night. The next morning my hands feel great!

  14. Congrats to each winner! I so enjoyed all of the videos in the last few days. It was such fun getting a peek into your home and life during the days leading up to Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving day. We had six children at our dinner too, and it was a crazy, fun madhouse. We loved every minute!

  15. Congratulations to all the winners of Tipper’s generous Thankful November giveaways. Hope all has a blessed Christmas & New Year.
