Paul shared the video I’m featuring today last week on the Blind Pig and the Acorn YouTube channel. You can listen to the full video for more information about his friend Ed.
Here’s what Paul said in the description about the song.
I hope you enjoyed this video half as much as I enjoyed making it! It’s funny how this video came about.
About a week and a half ago, I was about to hop into the shower, and I decided that I’d like to hear some Christmas music while I got ready. I went into the room where I keep a lot of my CD’s. I didn’t have my glasses on, and I thought I was selecting a Chris Isaak Christmas CD. I put it in the player and got in the shower. It turned out to be a Jim Reeves Christmas CD.
I enjoyed it quite a bit, especially “Mary’s Boy Child” (which I may do in a live stream next Monday evening) and “The Merry Christmas Polka.”
As I finished my shower, I wondered to myself if I might be able to do the polka song with my friend Ed someday, simply because I knew he had played in polka bands. I didn’t give it much thought because Ed lives 10 hours away from me.
To my surprise, the following week, Ed texted to say that he would be coming through town right after Thanksgiving and would like to play some tennis. After I set up doubles for us, I texted him and asked him if he had ever heard the song and if he would be bringing his accordion along. From there, everything just fell into place.
Hope you enjoyed the polka song! After the song there is a bonus polka. I really like it.
Accordion players always amaze me. I don’t know how in the world they keep track of so many buttons while working the bellows. My favorite accordion player is Bob Dalsemer.

Guys, what a treat. You both excelled on your parts. That accordian set this jolly tune off. Thank you!
I look forward to more Christmas music!
I’ve changed my mind, I predict it’s going to snow. It’s 11:00 PM, I just when outside and it’s snowing.
Ed, YAY for snow 🙂
That was enjoyable! I would think it takes great talent to do all those things on one instrument. Thank you for sharing!
The video is delightful. Paul and Bob are indeed very talented and entertaining I have always enjoyed accordion music as it makes me want to kick up my heels. Thanks again for the music. I love it.
The Weather Channel is calling for snow here tomorrow but I ain’t going to say nothing this time for fear of being a liar again.
Thanks for sharing. My Dad played the accordian by ear. He was always entertainment at our family and friend gatherings. He passed in 1994 and I can’t help but thinking of him when I hear an accordian. Merry Christmas.
Very lively! Great Job! As it’s Pearl Harbor Day, I’m thinking a lot of our service men and women heard polkas, some for the first time. Blessings for a Merry Christmas!
Enjoyed your song Paul. Made me think of my mother in law. She was from Hibbing, MN and had a accordion. Don’t know why she had it or if she could play it. Too late to ask now.
I love polkas! I don’t understand how an accordian player manages the buttons, keys and bellows, but Ed sure does. That was fun to watch and listen to, as was the Ukranian Polka. Thanks, Tipper!
That’s quite a story Paul. Sure glad it worked out.
I loved the polka music today. My grandparents were from Austria so I heard quite a lot of polka music growing up. Thanks for a fun time today!
Praying for Granny, as always!
I enjoyed the Merry Christmas Polka. My mother liked the Jim Reeves version very much.
As always praying for Granny.
I really enjoyed hearing Paul sing the Polka. A CD would be wonderful. I hope I win. I remember daddy playing on his Gibson guitar to us kids as we sat around the fireplace just trying to keep warm.
What fun to hear a Polka! A Christmas Polka at that. 🙂 Thank you so much for the fun video. Sending blessings to Granny and all.
Oh my goodness…those songs were great! It brought back so many memories of my hubby and I attending his Christmas work parties and dancing to polka music. I can’t say we danced the polka because we didn’t actually do it..we just did our own version and had lots of fun trying! My father-in-law, on the other hand, was a wonderful polka dancer. He had his dance card filled at any birthday or Christmas party with all the ladies wanting to dance. It makes me miss him today.
This music sure brings back childhood memories!
The first time I remember hearing an accordion was in about the second grade. The principal had one and brought it to school for our monthly Friday afternoon talent time. My ‘talent’ was usually reciting a poem or telling a joke.
German, yes!!, but it also reminds me of the “Cajun” music over in southern Louisiana. They use the accordion in their music. Enjoyed this so much!!
How beautiful!!! I had never heard the Christmas Polka before. Thank you for sharing ❤️ Have a blessed day all. Keeping everyone always in our prayers.
Nikky and Todd T.
I just love Christmas music! I would love to have this CD!
I would love to have this Christmas CD. My grandparents loved polkas and liked to dance to them. Definitely get your blood pumping lol.
Good morning Paul and Blind Pig and the Acorn fans! A chance to win a Paul and Pap Christmas CD, I’m in!! I have always loved the accordion and I wonder how the player can work all those buttons as well, but the sound that comes out is amazing!! I always admire people who can sing and play an instrument at the same time. Like rubbing your tummy and tapping your head and getting all messed up, yet they do their thing and make it look so effortlessly!! I hope everyone enjoys their Sunday, and that God showers us all with His love and blessings, with a good portion going to Granny!!
A lively way to kick start a Sunday morning. As I commented to Paul, it takes me back to sitting and listening to my daddy playing. He was a ‘self-learner’ and done all ‘by ear’ but he sure could play. Wonderful memories.
I really enjoyed that! Thank y’all!
Good Sunday morning, this had my toe tapping! Loved it! Grew up with polka music on the radio every Sunday, my uncles played polka music at all family gatherings. I’m old enough to have had a polka band play at my wedding 44 years ago! Thank you!
So fun ! Happy Sunday everyone!
Now that was a hoot! Thanks for getting my creaky joints moving this morning, fellows.
I don’t think I’ve heard Christmas Polka since the Lawrence Well show when I was a kid and playing the accordion must be so difficult but I love the sound. Y’all did a great job together. A wonderful way to start my day.
Merry Christmas
I liked the song and the accordion, I’m like you I don’t see how they keep up with everything on it.
Love Paul’s music hope I win the CD!

The music was wonderful happy!! Paul is amazing, and Ed equally so. He sure has a command of his accordian. So much fun this “mature” old woman was dancing in front of the computer. Now that was a sight to behold, (smile).
Thanks for the nod! However Ed is a much better player! I had the honor of being the only accordion player in Brasstown for many years.
The Christmas Polka was a great song to listen to this morning. I would love a copy of the Christmas cd. Enjoy the Christmas season with your family.
Loved this! It brought back the wonderful memories once again of the little red accordion my sweet Aunt Viola sent me at Christmas during WW II. It’s such happy music. Makes me want to get up and dance! No wonder I loved that little red accordion and my Aunt Viola so much. What beautiful music! Thanks so much for sharing.
Hearing polka music makes me want to dance..I love it. Great video!
Everyone have a wonderful Sunday.
Years ago I regularly watched a polka show on TV. It featured different bands playing at various venues for local dances. I enjoyed watching the dancing couples of all ages as they twirled around the dance floor. Their energy, smiles, & bouncy music was very entertaining.
Polka? I never heard a Polka growing up unless you were in or around Cullman County. Cullman began as a German colony in the 1870s and today plays on that notoriety as a draw for tourism, industry, etc. Today, Cullman is booming these days with many new businesses and people the once small farming town IMHO, is getting “to big for it’s britches”. I mean the town is literally outgrowing it’s infrastructure today, but the city leaders are compensating to meet demands. A railroad/land investment man named Col. John Kullman bought up huge tracks of land between Huntsville and Montgomery and began colonizing it with German settlers. Cullman still has may residents who are the descendants of the original Germans and the influence of their forebearers is evident today. I had a friend who was a musician/singer growing up when younger played a lot of “gatherings”. He said it was funny how every time he played in or near Cullman county, there would always be people who would approach the band and ask, “do ya’ll know any Polkas?”
In book “Cracker Culture: Celtic Ways In The Old South” and it they would talk about how pockets of immigrants such as English or Germanic peoples in the antebellum South were usually absorbed into the local Scots-Irish, Irish, Scottish, cultures of the early Southrons and eventually their customs and languages disappeared as they faded into the local culture. This theory didn’t full take root in Cullman. I promise if you go to Oktoberfest in the fall, there will be lots of Polkas.
My husband and I currently play in a polka band, Indy Polkamotion is the band name, and I’ll have to find this song and learn it for next years Christmas gigs. Thank you for playing this, it’s a cute song!
Thank you for the lovely music and stories. Thank you for everything your family does. Its a great blessing.
Looking forward to the upcoming live! Love listening to Paul sing and play.
I have enjoyed theThankful November series. It starts my morning in a nostalgic mood. So much talent Paul as you share your love of music with us. Your friend can really work that accordion. I don’t know anyone who plays accordion anymore. ( although I had a nice toy accordion 65 years ago and learned to play the songs in the instruction book!) Praying for each of you as you continue to learn from Granny and take care of her. Jesus and family are everything.
Anne, I fully agree with your last sentence-Jesus and family are everything. I will add true friends. I think you realize this more and more as you get older and loose more and more of your family members and friends due to death. One member, Jackie I think, mentioned yesterday how hard this time of year can be for many of us. I try to keep remembering the true meaning and reason we should be celebrating Christmas. One of my close friends lost her husband and brother in one week back at this year’s Thanksgiving. In the last few years I had gotten real close to her Christian husband and would often talk to him about how I was feeling with my own sadness.
I loved Paul’s Christmas Polka post. I went on youtube and watched every version I could find. It was such fun to hear Jim Reeves, The Laurencce Welk Show (Bobby danced with his partner to the Polka) and others. I hope I remember to be there for the live. I’ll put a sticky note on my computer. I love Christmas music. I like to listen to it when I’m sewing and crafting because it creates a fast rhythm and I can work faster without getting tired. I’m keeping all the folks here and up Wilson Hollow in my prayers. TY for keeping me and my son in your prayers, he may get to come home from the hospital today. I love Y’all.
Barbara, wonderful news! I will keep praying for you both!
good morning, I enjoyed the song, I watched Paul and Ed a few days ago, God bless them, I’d like to say thank you to each and everyone has prayed for my brother, he’s in the five to seven percent that can do immunotherapy, but the medication tagrisso, has some bad side effects, he has tampered with ivermectin and fenbendazole, he can’t stick to the protocol it takes to do that, God bless him, God bless you, thank you for praying, God bless Granny Wilson
Norman, that is good news. I pray it makes a big difference and helps him feel better soon.
I will continue to pray for your brother Bennie.
