Mine and Jim’s cookbook is continuing to sell well. We’ve been so pleased and humbled by the success of the book.

You can pick up a copy at various bookstores, Mast General Stores, on Jim’s website, from my Etsy Shop, and on Amazon.

I’ve shipped so many books out that everyone in our family now has the process down pat and the folks at the post office know each of us by name 🙂

Along the way sometimes the books get scuffed or bent either by the shipping process from the publisher or accidentally by us. And there’s a few books I was asked to sign that I wrote the wrong name or made some other mishap with.

I made sure to keep all the flawed books, because I knew they would be perfect to use as Thankful November giveaways. The cookbooks may not be pristine, but they are still chock full of wonderful Appalachian recipes and history.

Today’s Thankful November giveaway is for a ‘flawed’ Celebrating Southern Appalachian Food – Recipes & Stories from Mountain Kitchens written by Jim Casada and me. Leave a comment on this post to be entered. *Giveaway ends November 25, 2023. There will be 5 winners for this giveaway.

Here’s a few of the latest winners from this year’s Thankful November Giveaways. If you see your name please send your mailing address to me at blindpigandtheacorn @ gmail.com and I will send you your book or cd.

The winner of Foxfire 3 is Vicki Davis who said: “Born in 1928 in a primitive two room cabin, probably with a dirt floor, Daddy grew up on a farm in the foothills of the Appalachians in NW Georgia. He told me the story how he would plow with the mule as a boy and Granddaddy would warn him in the hot summer months “don’t you kill that mule!” I imagine a mule was very valuable to a sustenance farmer back then. I don’t know if that’s the same mule that bucked Daddy off when he rode it to fetch the mail at the box, a mile from the house. He broke his ribs and always talked about how painful that was. Thank you, Tipper, for taking us back to simpler times! God bless your family this Thanksgiving! Vicki Davis, NW Georgia”

The winner of Appalachian Values written by Loyal Jones is Cindy who said: “God bless our veterans.”

The winner of the cd Live to Never Die is Brooke who said: “Great song! I have been taking fiddle lessons and one of my goals is to learn to play Train 45.”

The winner of Fishing for Chickens is Larry Eddings who said: “I’ve never met a squash that I didn’t like. The simple method that Jim described that his mother used is wonderful eating.”

The winner of another copy of Appalachian Values is Nancy Johnson who said: “Congratulations to all the winners thus far. I definitely want to know more about Appalachia. My daughter and family live in Charlotte and when I come to visit, I really like to head to the mountains to enjoy the environment and the people who live there.”

I heard from every winner I announced last week but one, so I’m sharing that notice again.

The winner of The Tall Woman is Linda Toms who said: “I love The Blind Pig. It is like balm to my soul. You are precious people with many wonderful stories to tell and lessons to impart. I tried finding “The Tall Woman” at my library but they don’t have it. They do have “Family of Earth” by Wilma Dykeman on their list of books to request for purchase. My grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all hold a special place in my memory that remind me of your family.”

Several folks have been asking about Granny. She will finish her radiation and chemo treatments this week. I was worried Granny wouldn’t be able to stand the treatments, but she has done very well. The largest side effect by far is extreme tiredness. In about a month they will take more scans to see if the treatments helped shrink the mass. We appreciate everyone who has been praying and cheering for her recovery!

  1. You haven’t heard from me in awhile. We’re away from home and this is the first time I’ve been able to be on a computer. Radiation does make a person very tired. Tell granny to hang in there. It gets better. Rest and heal.
My husband had 44 radiation in 2016. He was extremely tired but it worked well. He is now 83 years old, doing fine and no longer has to see his oncologist. She sent him back to his primary care physician after 5 years. She said he no longer needed her. We’re sending prayer for your momma that she does as well.

  2. I think most “flawed” items have character! Kind of like people I suppose. We have so enjoyed all of your recipes we have tried. The pumpkin cookies went like hotcakes
So thankful for all the things you and family share. May God bless your efforts!!

  3. I keep meaning to write and tell you that I’ve made quite a few of the recipes from your cookbook, and the most requested one so far is the chicken broccoli casserole. Everyone loves it! Thank you (and Jim) for such a great cookbook.

  4. So happy the books are going well. And good to hear how good Granny’s doing. We will continue to pray for her and you. Happy Thanksgiving to you all! Enjoy all the little moments

  5. Tipper, we discovered you a few months ago when we were searching on YouTube to find someone reading, Alex Stewart Portrait of a Pioneer. We enjoyed listening to you read that book. Then we discovered your girls YouTube channel and the blind pig and the acorn. Now, you and your family feel like family and are in my prayers daily. Glad to hear the update about your precious mother. I wanted to come to a book signing but was not able. I would enjoy winning your cookbook. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge.

  6. I’m a new subscriber & didn’t know you had a cookbook!!! How exciting! Reading others’ comments I’m sure I would enjoy your cookbook & will be looking for it soon!

  7. I wasn’t able to read this post yesterday, but still wanted to comment. Been praying for Granny- so glad she’s been making it through the treatments in (relatively) good shape. I’ve known several who had to go through that and know how rough it can be. Praying for a good report when the treatments are finished.

About the cookbook- what a treasure! Soon after I discovered this site a few months ago, I went into the recipes section and started copying down recipes, so I have a pretty fair collection of recipes already! Tipper, thanks for all you do, and blessings to you and all your family. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  8. Happy Thanksgiving week !!! What a lovely idea !!! I would LOVE to win one of your cookbooks !!! Thank you so much for the opportunity & for sharing all that you do !!!

  9. Just wanted to say we love your Celebrating Appalachia channel. My husband and I were born and raised in eastern NC and see many similarities of the lifestyle…even some of the vocabulary. We really enjoy the gardening videos. Can’t wait to try the black walnut cookies recipe…I came to your page just to look it up and see if you had recipes for black walnuts. God bless your family and keep up the good work.

  10. What a lovely offer…a bit scuffed or a mistake in personalisation won’t affect the wonderful recipes or stories!
thanks for the opportunity to win

  18. I am thankful for our library in lawrenceburg Indiana I requested that the library stock your book which they did so I could look and try some recipes before purchasing the book but also to give people who possibly can’t afford the book the chance to experience Appalachia food and read the great stories look at the wonderful pictures thank you and Jim for giving such a beautiful book to share

  19. Morning all and congratulations to all the winners thus far. I hope to add my name to the list soon! I would love a cookbook. I have several that have been handed down thru the years, but to have a newer one with all your specialties in it would be the icing on the cake (yet to be made, of course!!)

Good news for Granny. Hope she can get her stamina back soonest.

  20. I think about Granny everyday. We have been fighting colon cancer since April. The cancer seems under control but the damage it caused to my husband’s kidneys require dialysis 3 times a week. Boy, we sure shouldn’t take our health for granted. I am so thankful for your family and all that you share. Please let Katie know I am praying for her as well. Happy Thanksgiving to my favorite Pressley and Wilson family!!

  21. Congratulations to all the winners. I love my signed copy of Celebrating Southern Appalachian Food. My husband and I have fond memories of our trip to meet you and your family in Murphy, NC. It turned into a wonderful vacation for us. I would definitely regift the book if I were to win. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and may God continue to bless your mother.

  22. I’m going to try and work my way through your cookbook this winter, at least the seasonal recipes. I’m so very happy for you and Mr. Cassida success with the cookbook.

  23. We have used your cookbook several times since purchasing it at the Mast Original
General Store in Valle Crucis. Happy Thanksgiving!!

    1. In better times or days when my wife was alive we would spend several days each year around the middle of October in the Valle Crucis area. We always stopped by the Mast General store. I have been to some other Mast Stores, there is even one not to far from my home, Greenville, SC but the original store was my favorite. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

  24. You are so sweet to offer the flawed books as a give a way. Just proof of your heart and Godly spirit. I so enjoy your blog and channel. Love your family. I imagine what a blessing it would be to have a neighbor like you. We are retired on a very strict income so I can’t afford extra perks. I’d love to have your cook book. I know there are many in the same place as me. Praying for your Mom and for your family.

  25. I’m so glad that Granny is doing good, she’s a strong, mountain woman. I hope she gets over the tiredness soon, I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving together. Hugs.

  26. I would love one of your giveaway cookbooks. I have so enjoyed your wonderful blog and videos, especially the entries on language and colorful expressions. It brings back what I thought growing up were “exotic” turns of phrase my father and his family said. My father was born and raised in Jackson County NC but moved to the Pacific NW after WWII (for a job) and that’s where I was raised. My father passed away in 2022 after a long and fulfilling life, but your blog brings him back to me over and over again. Thank you for all your efforts to keep this wonderful culture alive!

  27. I just received my cookbook that I ordered and will be making your peach pie for thanksgiving!!!

May all of you have a blessed Thanksgiving

  28. I’m currently caring for my ailing mother as well, and praying for Granny and your whole family. I feel like we are family even though we have never met. I would adore a copy of the cookbook! It would really round out my down-homey cooking library. God Bless you all, congratulations to the winners, and everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

  29. Thank you, Tipper! I am so happy to be a winner of the Fox Fire 3 book! I visited the Fox Fire Museum years ago and observed so many artifacts that could easily be used and found on my grandparents’ farm where I spent much of my childhood. You are keeping the Appalachian lifestyle in the forefront of my memory as I reflect on simpler times when faith and family were the core values most everyone adhered. Thank you for all you do. I will place an order for a couple of cookbooks. I sent you an email with my mailing address. I am thankful and blessed this Thanksgiving.

  30. Our Father hears our prayers. Miss Louzine’s handling of the treatments is but one example. We continue to pray for her.

    Congratulations to all the winners.

On a different note, what is everyone cooking for Thanksgiving dinner?

We are having ours a day early because DD and SIL will be working Thursday. Today I’ve fired up the smoker. None of us is particularly fond of turkey; so I will smoke 2 pork tenderloins, a pork butt (for pulled pork to put in the freezer, a hen, and a rack of pork ribs (if all goes well). We will also have mashed potatoes, green beans, apple sauce and sweet potato pie.

  31. I am anxious to see the recipes in your cookbook. I will certainly check it out on my next visit to the Mast General Store.

  32. Hey Tipper and family.
Sure do love your daily stories.
The mule was an important part of life in the mountains. Daddy said he remembered plowing with the mule to turn the ground and then lay the rows out for planting. I love my Daddy’s stories. They were a hard working family.

  33. Congratulations to all of the winners! I am also happy to hear that Granny is doing so well except for the tiredness but praying she’ll start feeling much better after these last treatments this week. Also praying for a good outcome. She’s one tough lady.

  34. I love reading your newsletter, watching your videos & learning about Appalachia. I would like to be considered for a copy of your cookbook.
I am so glad to read Granny is doing ok. Prayers to you & your family.

  35. As I heard you say that Matt said, “Granny is a tough ole bird!” Bless her heart. I’m so thankful that her treatments are working and that she has soldiered on during them. Please give her a hug for me and I’ll be praying for a complete recovery. I would love to win one of yours and Jim’s cookbooks. I know I would enjoy it very much. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones. Love, prayers, and hugs, Barbara.

  36. WooHoo! Congratulations to this round of winners! I’d love a flawed copy of your and Jim’s cookbook, because I would be perfectly happy with it, even if it has a wrong name in it. It just another wonderful story added to the cookbook.

  37. I would love a copy of your cookbook. I’ve tried recipes from your site. The first one was cornbread which became a huge hit.
    Thanks for all you share.

  38. You know me as Mia K on YT, but Maria is my given name. I’m so pleased to hear Granny is finishing her treatment just in time for Thanksgiving. Prayer is a powerful thing, and I pray Granny continues to do well.
I don’t know why I’m so late to your wonderful blog. I really enjoy your stories, tips and learning more about Appalachi, to me, one of the most magical places in the world!
    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

  39. It’s hard to believe it’s Thanksgiving week already. The older I get the faster time races by. Glad to hear Granny is coming to the end of her treatments; I feel certain she will get a good report.

  40. Tipper, I just wanted to leave a simple wish that you, your family, your army of friends, and every single reader and viewer have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving.

  41. So glad to hear that Granny is doing well. The family’s love and support is going a long way to making it bearable for her, I’m sure.
Your recipes are so good and I’ve made a few now. A copy of the book would be wonderful!

  42. So happy to hear that Granny will be done with her treatments this week. A truly thankful Thanksgiving! Hope y’all have a wonderful time with your family and sweet memories continue to be made.

  43. Good morning, Tipper! I have yours and Jim’s cookbook and it is wonderful. As for Granny, when I had my first cancer in 2012, I had 6 chemo treatments which were NOT fun!! That was followed a month later with 19 radiation treatments and that caused extreme tiredness. I could barely lift my arms to fold laundry so I know exactly what Granny is dealing with. Let her know it will soon pass and she will get her energy back, or most of it. I was only 63 then and now I’m 74 dealing with my third cancer and doing great so far. Granny is older than I am so it stands to reason she would be more affected with treatment. I try to keep her in my prayers every night. God’s blessings on you and your family!

  44. Good morning from Illinois! I am a fan and read your posts every morning. Thank you for sharing your family’s life with us. This is the first time I am commenting. I love all of your stories, recipes, gardening tips, etc. I am a cook and like to try different recipes. Would love a copy of your cookbook, in any condition.
Prayers that you and your family continue to thrive and that our Heavenly Father completely heals Granny.

  45. Tipper, I am so very glad that Granny tolerated her radiation and chemo treatments well. As you all have learned, the exhaustion caused by chemo and the tender skin caused by the radiation are some of the unpleasant consequences/side effects of the effort to heal. Oh, if only disease did not exist! But, oh, what glory the comfort of God and the kind, practical care of family and friends can bring in times such as these. May God continue to comfort Granny and give strength and courage to you all.

  46. I am so happy that Granny is doing well with her treatments, and I hope the mass has shrunk. She’s a strong lady. I’d love a copy of your cookbook, even if it is bent or has the someone else’s name in it. I’m not picky. Mama said beggars can’t be choosers.

  47. Your cookbook sounds like a goodie. I love to cook and bake and try different recipes. I really like southern food and am anxious to try some of your and Jim’s recipes.
Thank you, Tipper for your inspirational posts. They have meant alot to me. I pray for God to cradle Granny in His arms and completely heal her.

  48. My wife and I would enjoy one of the cookbooks even though “flawed”. By the time we used one recipe from a pristine one it too would be flawed. I would also enjoy the stories that go along with the recipes – probably just as much. Glad to read that Granny is doing ok with the treatments. So many people don’t. I have a friend that went to Mexico for very unquestionable treatments, has returned and is in critical condition now. I sat with my wife’s mother and two sisters as they were treated with surgeries, chemo, etc. All three had negative outcomes and two said if they had understood how bad the treatment was going to be they would have opted out. I will continue to include Granny in my daily prayers.

  49. Congratulations to all the winners!! So glad to hear Granny has done well with her treatments. Praying that God will continue to touch her and that she will be completely healed. I love my cookbook (it’s even signed by you and Corey!) and plan to use it for some Thanksgiving recipes!

  50. I am so glad to hear that Granny is finishing her treatments. I purchased one of your books and I am enjoying reading it and have used several recipes. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  51. Hi Tipper
I am so grateful that Granny is doing well, I do have a copy of your cookbook but I would love to have one that is flawed, there is something special about anything that is flawed and that goes for anything or anyone, God knows our hearts. We had our Thanksgiving here in Canada but I want to wish you all a wonderful Happy Thanksgiving and may you all be showered with His Blessings.

  52. Well, among the comments they set me thinking. Believers understand our body is the cover. Our hearts are content. The cover gets wrinkled. Its colors fade. Some pieces go missing. But the writing on the heart endures. As Paul said, 2CO3:02 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:” I’ll have to study on that. So glad to hear the good report for Granny. Glad also to see how surrounded she is with caring from near and far. Your blog makes all of us, I think maybe, understand that in the things that matter most we are more alike that we are different.

  53. I discovered your YouTube channel and have enjoyed it so much. I am from Louisiana and we have almost all of the same “Vocabulary”. Praying for Granny and Katie. Love your family.

  54. Wonderful news about Granny. God is good! My brother-in-law has one more radiation treatment for lung cancer. He seems to have also tolerated the treatments well. I would love this cookbook. Prayers for all. Take care and God bless ❣️

  55. I too, am glad Granny is doing well with treatments, God bless her and y’all! You and Jim’s cookbook is an absolute treasure, by far my favorite cookbook ever!! ❤️

  56. I would love a copy of your cookbook. I enjoy the recipes you share and I’m always ready to try new (to me) and authentic Southern foods.

I’m glad Granny is holding her own with the chemo and radiation and hope the upcoming tests show some success. The strength and tenacity of Appalachian folk has got to help.

  57. Tipper!
There is a lot to be grateful for this year! I am sure you are grateful for Granny’s treatment and handling it well. I hope you and your family will all celebrate this week together and I have no doubt that you will have a delicious meal. I am new to watching your videos. You have a wonderful presence.

  58. I’m so glad that Granny is doing well with the treatments. I pray they are working. You can always tell a good cookbook by how ‘used’ it looks.

  59. Praising our Great God for Granny’s endurance of the treatments. I will be praying for good results if the scans.
Wishing you all a very Blessed Thanksgiving!

  60. My most used cookbooks are my “flawed” ones 🙂 I sure would love to win one with your autograph! I’m so glad to hear your Mom is almost done with her treatments. I pray all of you can have a wonderful Thanksgiving together.

  61. Thankful to have found your channel (& the girls). Especially thankful Granny’s treatments will be finished this week. I will continue to Prayers for Granny, Katie & the rest of your family.

  62. I already have your cookbook, and it is chocked full of Appalachia recipes and interesting reads. I was so moved by Laura Lee Baird’s comments that I would hope if you draw my name she can get the cookbook. I am so busy winterizing that simple recipes are a treasure! We all know and love you, but both Jim and Don have also become a part of our Blind Pig family. Prayers going up for Granny. That is a tough generation, and that strength will go a long way in her healing process. May the Lord Bless the Blind Pig family through the upcoming holidays. We all have much to be thankful for.

  63. I’m so glad to hear that granny is doing well with the treatments. I’ve been praying for her recovery. I would love to have your cookbook. Happy Thanksgiving!

  64. Well, I am DELIGHTED you mentioned your cookbook this morning because I was gonna bring up some recipes you got in there. My Thanksgiving desserts will include your BLACK WALNUT POUND CAKE AND WALNUT ICING AND AUNT MARY JO’S APPLE PIE taken from your wonderful cookbook! Last night I sat and looked at all the pictures of by gone times in the cookbook and the pictures of you were just beautiful, Miss Tipper! You look so happy and thrilled not to mention the very image of good health! I’m so glad Granny Louzine has endured the therapy well. Often, the therapy is worse than the suffering, so we KNOW Jesus Christ has sent his Holy Spirit to be with her during this time and given her strength and courage not to mention His Holy presence has been with her children and family through this difficult time. I hope by Jan 1, you’re “flying low and looking back!”Besides, ain’t there a new young’un coming about March or so into the Pressley/ Wilson clan? I’m excited for y’all in many wonderful ways!!! Good news, good times and good days in the NEW YEAR!

    1. Sadie,

Daddy’s favorite cake was black walnut and his mama made it for him every Christmas. I received some of the black walnuts from The Farm where he grew up and tried to crack them without luck. I wondered how Blue, aka Granddaddy, managed. My brother reminded me he cracked them with a particular tool set up in the potato house beside the blacksmith area where he did some “inside” winter work. I’ve since read hints of how ole timers cracked the black walnuts. And yes, Amen, may the Holy Spirit, our Comforter, be with Granny during this difficult valley she is walking. We know she does not walk alone. God bless the caregivers as well. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

  65. Today is my lucky day! Thank for choosing me as a winner. I look forward to reading Appalachain Values on these cold, wintry days to come. Hug Granny for me. Everytime I see her on a video, I just want to throw an afghan over the two of us, watch some tv and cuddle. She’d probably say, “What’s wrong with this woman?”. ha ha

  66. I have purchased your cookbook but if I win , I would gift it to someone else that loves country cooking as much as I do , thankful granny is doing good. Continued prayers for her , God bless you your family.

  67. I’ve enjoyed your working in the garden.gonna miss that too.
I have 2 invitations to dinner this Thanksgiving. my son and his wife at her dad’s house, it’s just the three of them together. my daughter here and she will have a lot of people there . Can’t make up my mind which one I will go to.got me a turkey breast for sandwiches. maybe I can bring some dressing home. I get so holidays just aren’t fun anymore since Randy passed away. cooking for one is not so good. guess I’ll miss him the rest of my life.

    1. I just saw this and thought it might be something some of the members would like to listen too. It goes along with blessings and praying for one another. A deputy was shot in Oconee county SC last week, this is what the Sheriff told at church yesterday. Find it on WYFF4.com. The story starts with tears rolled down his face.

  68. Oooo! Wheee! I’d surely love one of those “flawed” cookbooks. I bet it’s chock full of all kinds of good eatin’!!!

  69. One can just google a recipe, but there’s something special about a cookbook. Stains, smears, and drips on the pages add so much to the recipes. I especially love the spiral bound “fundraiser’ types that I find at thrift stores with people’s names attached and bits of local info

  70. Please let Granny know that my husband and I lift her up to our Heavenly Father and ask for His healing, grace and mercy.

And let Matt know that we appreciate his take on everything:D

  71. When I worked at Baker Furniture over in Andrews there was a man whose sole purpose was to take a chain and whack each piece a few dozen times as it came down the line. They called it the distressed look and added to the already exorbitant cost of their furniture. Why don’t you keep the distressed books you are giving away, sell them for $49.99 and give away pristine ones?

When you write your next cookbook think about having all those things that make it more valuable built right in. Blackberry stains, burnt rings, dog-eared pages and post-it notes! Frayed pages! Pages torn out and put back in the wrong place! Handwritten pages and pages from other cookbooks. Pages stuck together by an unknown substance which require minutes to separate and due diligence to prevent from reattaching themselves. There are many more but I must include the most beneficial, the broken spine that allows to book to lay flat at all your favorite places.

    1. That’s the look I’m going for at 56 – the distressed look and I’m succeeding every day at it!!! Lol However, NOTHING is bringing up my value in the looks department. No sense trying to overpaint and overhaul an old barn. So glad I’m saved!

      1. Sadie,
Your comments! I can so relate to them. Yes, I’ll be 67 next month. Ummmm…weathered old barn over here! Not sure how this happened but am thankful and blessed to be in relative good health. I have out lived my maternal grandparents! You have a wonderful way with words!

  72. I’m so glad to hear chemo and radiation treatments are almost over for your Mother, and they have been successful. GOD is good. In all things give thanks.
Congratulations to all the winners in the November giveaways.
    Blessings to all.

  73. Even though I purchased your cookbook and absolutely love it I would love to win another copy to share with someone. Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving. Just think next year you will have that grandbaby and be giving them some tastes of everything.

  74. @Laura Lee Baird: Thank-you for sharing that. I’m sorry for your loss. It’s never easy losing family or friends. Our flaws make us who we are. What we do with them is up to us. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  75. I have been trying to get rid of things in my home since my husband passed away in September but it would be an honor to take in one of your cookbooks. Congratulations to all the previous winners. So glad to hear the progress Granny has made & I will continue to pray for her daily as she travels this path. Hugs!

  76. “Flawed?” Perhaps, “over-handled” or “second-hand”? I don’t think a book, like people, is really ever flawed. I only purchase second-hand books now that I am older, especially cookbooks and vintage cookbooks. Half the fun is seeing what pages are dog-eared, what recipes have written notes, and what favored sentences are underlined. I recently read that a book has its own soul–and it is added to by every person who picks up that book to read it and then share with another . . . Good to hear that Granny is doing well. I’m sure this will be a special Thanksgiving for her.

  77. It was so good to hear a report on Granny. Praying these treatments have shrunken the mass. So happy yours and Jim’s cookbook has
Done well…I certainly have enjoyed my copy…!!! I am a cookbook collector owning several hundred cookbooks—your cookbook is now near the top of my list of favorite cookbooks that I own!!! I own cookbooks by many famous chefs/Food Network celebrities, as well as many small church, community fund raiser-type cookbooks and other cookbooks that just struck my fancy when I saw them here and there…I also have all my grandmother’s and my husband’s grandmother’s cookbooks…trust me…I have A LOT of cookbooks!!! Your cookbook is awesome!!!

  78. Congratulations to all the winners thus far and to all the others going forward.
When you mentioned flawed books it gave me an idea for a sermon or devotion. We are all flawed people just like some of those books you mentioned but what really matters is the content of the books as well as the content of who a person really is on the inside. Plus every flaw adds character to those books. Robbie Lynn has one of your books but if we were to win another she would most likely pay it forward as a gift to someone. Glad to hear that granny is holding her own and we will continue to pray for her healing and strength to endure.

    1. @PastorLon You have inspired me with your posting about a sermon and also paying it forward with a prize book. God bless you and Robbie Lynn. I would so enjoy winning a “flawed” cookbook, Tipper.

  79. So glad to hear that Granny is doing so well! I wanted to attend the signing at Mast in Waynesville, but the grandbabies came to visit and going to the playground was the choice of the day! Hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving

  80. So glad to hear that your mother has done well with her cancer treatments. God is answering prayers and we will continue to keep her in our prayers for complete healing.
Congratulations that your cookbook has sold so well, another of God’s blessings for you all!!!!

  81. I have been meaning to write and thank you for eating all those Outshine Bars on your videos. Here I am in a small town in Iowa and my local grocery store started stocking them.
And my favorite flavor is the coconut.
Thanksgiving blessing to all of you.

  82. I have loved your You Tube channel and it was how I found the Blind Pig and Acorn blog; I have wanted to buy your cookbook but have not had any extra funds to do so. I sure would appreciate one of the “misfits”. My birthday is acoming on December the 3rd, would make a nice early gift LOL. I was born in Heard County Georgia and currently live in Alabama. Have a blessed week and Happy Thanksgiving

  83. First and foremost, all the healing power and prayers to your Granny. I’m a Stage IV survivor of younger years and I know how debilitating treatments are and can be. I’m amazed at her strength. It has to have been all that good mountain livin’.

My husband and I both love to cook! I’ve more or less “relinquished” (I don’t say that lightly) the main cooking duties to him because he says it calms his nerves. I do the baking, so it’s a nice balance. I also have told him, we have too many cookbooks! But. We don’t have this one, and I know both of us would relish it, and it would be put to good use. Some of my favorites recipes are the ones that come from churches and from that generation of older folks, many already gone. They’re a treasure.

  84. I bought your cookbook and you graciously signed it. Thank you. It would be nice to have another copy to pass on as a gift.
    Carolyn

  85. I haven’t been asking about Granny so much here because that would increase the pressure you are already under, but I hope you already knew that!

  86. I enjoy your Blind Pig and the Acorn and read it daily. I live in South Carolina now but you take me home every time I read it. I am originally from a holler in WV. It was a wonderful way to grow up with grandparents nearby and learning the old ways from them. I especially liked learning about the walking onions. I had never heard of them before.
Thank you for sharing with us.
    Connie Hough

  87. Receiving a copy of yours and Jim’s cookbook would be a joy. I love “flawed” things because they show that they’ve experienced some bumps. As Augustus Burroughs said in Magical True Stories “I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions. “

  88. Praise the Lord for continuing to sustain granny in such a beautiful way. Thank you for bringing such joy to me, through your blog, videos and cookbook!

  89. I would like to win one of the books, a few scuffs and scratches wouldn’t matter, I have plenty of both on me. I am sure it would be a good book not only for the recipes but because Jim Casada and Tipper were the authors.

  90. Glad to hear your mom is at the end of her treatments and has stood them fairly well. Certainly something to be thankful for this week!

  91. Never judge a book by its cover. Be it torn, smudged, scribbled on, or even in the finest shade of Crayola…the information is still priceless.

  92. Such good news about Granny. Prayers continue for her. And for each of you. I bet the post office staff think y’all are the nicest people around.
Everyone have a happy Thanksgiving week. Count your blessings and see what God hath done!!!

  93. Congratulations to all the winners!
We are all winners, in my opinion, for getting to experience this blog and the youtube channel.
I’m already blessed to have the cookbook, but what a joy it will be for someone to receive. I’ve made several recipes already.
Such good news that Miss Granny has done well. Praying for good results at her next doctor visit. God bless y’all!

  94. Good morning Tipper. First of all, yay for all the winners! I am sure they are all excited and appreciative! I am so happy to hear your Mama’s treatments are about over. She must be a very strong woman indeed and I will continue to remember her in my prayers each day. I miss seeing her in some of your videos. It’s like she is everyone’s Mama now. I hope you have a most wonderful Thanksgiving. I am gonna enjoy having my two oldest grandchildren ( 9 and 12) visiting this week. They are off on Thanksgiving break and I love it! God Bless you and everyone on this blog.

  95. Tipper,
I really enjoy having my first cup of coffee with you every morning. Your stories, songs, and recipes are amazing. It is a great way to start a new day. Prayers to you and your family.

  96. congrats to all the winners. all my cookbooks end up bent dirty and sometimes written on if I want to make a note. not a thing wrong with that

  97. Good morning friends of Appalachia, happy Thanksgiving, remember the Lord who gives all things!

  98. Thank you for the update on Granny. I will remember to be praying for her. Sunday, a week ago, I lost my daddy suddenly. We had a very difficult relationship and I prayed it would be fixed before something like this happened. The Lord layed it on my heart to call him and so I did. I called him on my birthday on the 8th because I knew he would forget. That was the last time I talked to him because he died on the 12th.

I don’t know why I shared all that, but the flaws in a cookbook reminded me of how we are flawed, but still have a purpose. We are still useful. We can still bring joy to someone. I would love to get one of your cookbooks. I’m always so excited for a new one. I usually sit down and read it like any other book.

    God bless ya’ll!!

  99. Do you guys ever just ‘quit’ and relax. I am impressed and awed by the energy that all of you possess in your daily ‘doings’. I don’t think even when I was your age nor the girls had this much energy. But, back to the video. I have learned a lot about your homelife and your attention to detail. Before I forget to ask, are you guys selling the Almanac again this year. Please post perhaps in an email. I am sure Granny will feel a bunch better when all of this is done and she for sure will get more energy and peace of mind. Praying for Granny and good news for her. God Bless you guys.

  100. So happy for all the winners. I’m also happy that Granny, though tired is doing so well. praying for a positive outcome to therapy.
