Today’s post was written by Paul.
I’m a couple of days late this year with our birthday tribute to Ira Louvin. Hopefully, Ira would have understood. 🙂
Granny is still in the hospital. She is continuing to improve and we hope she’ll be back home sometime this coming week. We thank you for your continued prayers, support, and love.
If you want to jump straight to the audio of me and Pap singing Seven Year Blues, go to 13:51.
I mentioned in the introduction that Pap and I sang the song too low (based on him giving in to my preference way back then). When I listened to the audio, the pitch was even lower than I remembered! It’s a shame that I didn’t listen to Pap, who clearly knew best about the that key we should have used for the song. In addition to wanting to sing too low, I also sang with way too much vibrato back then, and you can hear it in this song. Today, I try to use vibrato more sparingly, just on certain notes and usually only at the end of lines or on key notes. Anyway, putting the low pitch and excessive vibrato aside, we sang the song pretty well.
Here’s a link to a rough video of me and Pap signing the song, with Ben (my nephew) helping on guitar. If you would like to hear the Louvins sing the song, go here. To hear the excellent version from the Webster Brothers, go here. There are many other versions online. Check them all out and let me know which ones you like best!

Your voice didn’t sound as clear as Tipper’s so I am wondering what you used to record. IT was a bit hard to hear in places and I wanted to hear you well. The song and harmony was lovely, as usual!
Paul,
I agree with Linda, you criticize yourself too much! Your voice is great! Glad to hear you with the Pressley girls and your sister Tipper. Keep doing your music. I really enjoyed it.
Continue praying for your lovely mom. Blessings to the Pressleys and Wilson families. Hilary H
Hope Granny is recovering. I knew Charlie in Nashville back in the ’70’s. Back whe Nashville was about country music before the big international co-operations bought it out.
Thank you Paul, for the update on Granny. Prayers will continue for her and the family. I watched the video on YouTube you did in honor of Ira. Really enjoyed hearing you and Pap sing it too. Thanks for all you do to help out Tipper on the blog, Granny and all your family.
Thanks for the beautiful singing and the Granny update today. Cant wait to hear she’s home!!♥️♥️
Paul, I thought the song sounded great! Thanks for sharing and praying Granny gets to come home soon.
I love my Purple mattress, too! The only problem with it is, I got really spoiled and it is difficult to sleep in another bed when I am away from home!
Prayers For granny and your family. I have walked in your shoes with my mom and it was exhausting, but love and the grace of God made it such a pleasure to care for her.
Prayers, Prayers and more Prayers….love to you all.
You all did fine on the song! So glad your mother is progressing. I know everyone is anxious to be home! Always praying!
I think you ought to hear The Gibson Brothers version of this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiS9fLZDoq4 .
Good morning, Your humble spirit in defaulting to OTHERS is very powerful; and attractive. I’m getting ready to feed the 3 barns and make church, and hope to, God pleasing, watch/listen to the video and hyperlinks when I get back home this afternoon. I keep your whole family in my thoughts and prayers. Keep looking UP!
Paul, you criticize yourself too much. I think you sound great. I enjoyed watching you on The BP on YouTube.
Continued prayers for Granny. Love this family. ❤️
Thanks so much for the music, Paul, and for the Granny update. Still praying! I have been listening to Granny and Pap. Glory to God!

I think the vibrato makes a nice contrast between your voices. It complements Pap’s voice.
Sounds wonderful to me, as always! Funny thing, I went to our public library book sale and found an old Christmas album and one of the songs is sung by the Louvin Brothers. I can hardly wait to play it as it is old country and bluegrass artists.
Praying Granny gets to come home soon! I believe it’s hard on everyone when our loved ones are in the hospital.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
I left a message on another page but in case I didn’t get it right, Tipper I”d like to know what type of bed you have. You are always talking about how you love your bed. Can you tell me the name of the mattress?
Martha-the mattress is a brand called Purple. Miss Cindy got one and loved it so much she got us one too 🙂
