  3. Happy New Year to you too! We will have stewed tomatoes along with our black-eyed peas, kale salad, and pork barbecue. My husband likes smoked jowl meat to season collards, kale, and string beans.

  4. Will any kind of field pea do as well? I have knuckle hull purple hull. And if any kind of greens are OK I have lots of mustard greens and my wife can have curly kale. Btw, there is a little compound-leafed cress that comes up in the winter that is in the garden now. It tastes like watercress, kinda peppery. It is the first thing to bloom in the spring on little short spikes about 3-4 inches high and will have teeny-tiny white flowers. Then it will disappear until the next winter.

    Wishing all the BP&A folks and all the readers a richly blessed 2020. May we each feel, as I read once about someone saying, ‘We are already rich. Maybe someday we will even have money.’

  5. I was in bed before midnight and heard fireworks going off in the distance at 12 o’clock. Normally there is some shotgun blast but didn’t hear any last night. Use to be our church or one of the sister churches would have a watch service where the old year was preached out and the new year preached in. None of our association did that this year.

  7. Being from Pennsylvania we do Sour Kraut with pork and applesauce. The older German folks do apple snitz but I am using apple sauce instead. My pork is in the slow cooker now and the house smells so good. Hope everyone has a great 2020.
