Three generations in Appalachia: Gazzie holding Tipper, and Granny (Louzine)

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers who read the Blind Pig and The Acorn. Your families and the world are better off for having you!

Over the years the Blind Pig gang has done several songs about mothers. Here’s a few of them:

As you can see we love and respect the mothers of the world!

I count myself beyond blessed for having my dear sweet mother and the other mothers who’ve impacted my life like Miss Cindy, Mamaw, Granny Gazzie, my aunts, and the many mothers who attended New Martins Creek Church when I was a girl.

  1. My favorite song about Mothers is “ I Just Told Mama Goodbye” written by Hank Williams Sr. It’s about the saddest song I’ve ever heard, but the words are so beautiful, I can’t help but love it. I’d love to hear Paul sing it; it deserves a beautiful voice like his to do it justice! Hope everyone had a beautiful Mother’s Day!

  2. As a wee one, I thought I had 2 mothers. Turned out one was my mother’s best friend from girlhood. They were both in their 40s when I came along.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, adopting mothers, and would be mothers. You make and have made the world a better place for sure.

God has blessed me with 2 sons and daughters in love and 5 beautiful granddaughters. I’m grateful my parents are here so I will spend the afternoon with my Mama. It was such a joy to meet you and Katie yesterday in Hendersonville. Looking forward to trying your recipes and reading your wonderful cookbook. So proud of your success with this special book. 8. What a great picture of 3 generations of ladies! Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers! Here’s a very warm wish for Miss Cindy’s Mother’s Day to be the best! May the Lord bless all mothers and may we wisely seek Him for all help. I’ve been outside picking off slugs from my PURTY bedding plants. (They’ll do a sucking and killing number I tell you in short time!) And I have slug killer too. Just grab a few Kleenex and they stick good to those. Then toss them in outside trash. Poof- be gone you hideous creatures! Lol

  9. Happy Mother’s Day to you Tipper, Granny and Miss Cindy! May you have a day full of blessings! And to all the mothers here on Blind Pig and any lady who has taken children under their wings and had a positive influence on their lives, God bless you!!

  10. Have a blessed Mother’s Day, Tipper. I am remembering bits of a Mother’s Day song I heard as a child. A tenor sang it every Mother’s Day at church. It spelled out M-O-T-H-E-R…”M” is for the many things she gave me. “O” means only that she’s growing old… Can’t remember it all, but I’ll bet I can find it on YouTube.

  11. Happy Mother’s Day Tipper, and to all the wonderful women who raised and supported you and your family.❤️

  12. A long with wishing all of our mothers a happy Mother’s Day, I have a sadness in my heart for the ladies that want to be mothers but are unable to have children. I have a niece that has been told she is unable to have children and I see the hurt or sadness in her. She and her husband will foster children from time to time. I ask everyone to remember this ladies too in our prayers today.

  13. Yes, we are so blest with the wonderful Mom’s in our lives!❤️

I want to also remember the special folks in our lives who wanted to be mothers; acted as mother figures in other peoples kids lives; and substitute mom’s – sometimes guys – who filled in where needed. We needed them too!!! ‼️

  14. Happy Mother’s Day Tipper and Granny and Miss Cindy! This will be a special one for your family to treasure. My husband’s birthday was on May 13, so that weekend the family would get together and celebrate Mother’s Day and his birthday. They are all together in heaven now, and I am so thankful for those sweet memories.

  15. Blessings on Mother’s Day to all the BP&A Moms. I recalled the other day my Dad’s good friend Roy called his wife “Mom”. First time I heard him it sounded so odd. But he said it so naturally it was obviously of long standing. They had a big family and after awhile I figured out he must have just thought I can’t lick I’m so I’ll just join’em. Can’t recall if she called him Dad. The good Lord notes the sacrifices Moms and Dads make for their children. And it is after his own heart. I am convinced the loving heart of both families and churches is more than half from the Moms by his design.

  21. Many Mother’s is so right. I know women that have no children and yet they have made an excellent Mom for my kids and grandkids. They love and share and care enough to bring my kids love and care whenever they are near. Praise God in his wisdom to let many women take part in the joy of raising a child! It does take a village. We re- named this day, Happy Women’s Day to celebrate all those women that love and care for our children. They are very much a much needed part of our life.
