I so enjoyed today’s post about the American Revolution and the links to patriots from the Choestoe area. I was born and raised on Choestoe, so it has really whetted my appetite to learn more! My grandmother was Hattie Elizabeth England, granddaughter of Daniel England, so I’m quite sure the Hunters and Englands mentioned in one of the links are a part of my maternal family. I was so happy to learn that some of them were patriots. The old Hunter-England cabin is now onsite at the Union County Farmers Market. Now I’m on a quest … I want to know more! On the paternal side of my family, one of my ancestors, Captain Charles Saxon, also served in the Revolutionary War. Like many others that served, he never received recognition for his service. In 1833, he appealed his case before an appeals court in Illinois and although the court approved it, the War Department still turned him down because he lacked the documents to support it. I documented his testimony and wrote about it in a book I released last year titled “SAXON FIELDS: Lost in Time.” There’s nothing that brings history alive like stories told straight from the horse’s mouth! I’m not here to promote my book, but if anyone is interested in the history, there are a few copies still available at the Union County Historical Society, the Reece Farm and Heritage Center, and Sunrise Grocery in Blairsville. And Tipper, I will mail one to you … I believe you’d enjoy it.

Happy 4th of July
My 3rd great-grandfather, Thomas Hutchins, fought in the American Revolutionary war. Family lore says he served at the battles of King’s Mountain and Guilford Courthouse, but those claims are not supported by any written record. Interestingly, his grandson, A.B. Hutchins, fought in the US Civil War and died while serving.
I thank God for the blessings He has bestowed on America and pray that we shall continue to have those blessings for generations to come.

Happy 4th of July everyone. We are blessed to live in this country and should be thankful that God placed us here. All of my children are working today so we will not be getting together. My husband and I will have a quiet day here at home. We may venture out tonight to see the fireworks if there is no rain. God bless America!

I, too, love history. My ancestors fought on both sides in the Revolutionary War. Private Billy Budd fought in a famous American Loyalist militia in Westchester, New York. Captain Nathaniel Reynolds was a leader of the New England Patriots who attempted to seize Ft Cumberland in Nova Scotia to make that British colony the 14th colony to join the revolution and continued to fight the British after escaping to Maine. Nathaniel’s great grand daughter married William Budd’s grandson.
Richard England and his son sold their cannons to General Knox, Washington’s favorite artillery general, who surrendered to the British in their Southern Campaign, but later was designated by George Washington to accept the British sword (symbol of surrender) at Yorktown. There was, of course, a far more famous Richard England in the Revolutionary War. That British officer fought at Bunker Hill, fought at the Battle of Quebec, and at the Battle of Sarasota. Our Continental Army took him prisoner in 1777. I wonder if the two Richard Englands were related? Happy Independence Day.

Happy 4th of July! This is the 250th celebration of our country independence. This is definitely a great time to celebrate our country’s freedom! Have a safe and fun weekend with family and friends!

I lied, my son fixed the iPad. He said it was just like me-old and outdated. He updated the iPad, but said I was too old to be fixed. No parts or cure available. Total disrespect and lack of manners! I would kick his smart aleck rear end, but I can’t get my leg up high enough. I go on like this about him but truthfully he is a huge help and blessing to me.
