The Louvin Brother’s wrote and performed my favorite song about mothers, “God Bless Her Cause She Is My Mother.” I like to hear the song anytime of the year, but it always pops into my mind on Mother’s Day.

Pap and his brother used to do the song and it always made me cry because I thought of each of them thinking of their mother and knowing they missed her.

God Bless Her Cause She Is My Mother by The Louvin Brothers

I’m thinking of a little lady, she bears her load without fret
The one who rocked me in my cradle and through the years she loved me yet
The roses on her cheeks have faded and when they pass her on the street
Would break my heart to see them mock her although she may not dress so neat

She was the first to ever love me, the first to hold me to her breast
God bless her cause she is my Mother and she’ll be the last one I’ll forget

Her ways may seem a bit old-fashioned, and some may laugh when passing by
I’m not ashamed to call her mother, my love for her I’ll n’er deny
Each lock of grey tells of her sorrow as day by day she’s growing old
Her tender smile each day grows sweeter, each day she’s closer to God’s fold

She was the first to ever love me, the first to hold me to her breast
God bless her cause she is my Mama and she’ll be the last one I’ll forget

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers who read the Blind Pig and The Acorn. Your families and the world are better off for having you.

  4. Tipper,
    HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL.

When my oldest brother went off to the Korean War, he carried the only Baby picture ever taken of me in his pocketbook. One time when the North Koreans broke through, he had just enough time to grab his belongin’s, and leave with the skin of his teeth. My Baby picture was lost forever. Our boys had just taken a hill the day before, and the enemy wanted it back. When they got to safety on another hill, they noticed some haystacks in the distance. The next morning someone noticed the haystacks were getting closer, and there was tractor tracks behind. Our boys let loose a barrage of firepower like nobody’s business and those Gouts came running with their hands up. …Ken

  5. There’s nothing like a Mother’s Love, other than the love of God. A Mother’s Love is closest to the love of God. Unconditional. Personal opinion.
