This summer-I’ve tried to keep on the sunnyside-and I’ve had lots of sunshine in the form of:
The best crop of tomatoes we’ve ever grown.
Sisters who say they’re best friends.
Fun lazy days by the creek.
New…Â friends and…old friends.
Lots of pretty flowers.
And 2 sweet girls to keep me company through it all.

It has been a pretty good summer. We had some crook neck yellow squash, zucchini, a few green beans. We still have some of the best black eyed peas, a pretty good mess to pick yet, potatoes yet to dig, some onions and some garlic. I don’t know if the okras going to make now that it seems to be cooling down. I was late getting it in the ground, and as of pictures I’ve posted this evening, at least four ears of corn. The corn experiment has been a lot of fun. I’ll look forward to whatever you come up with for next year.
The desert is not a place to get the best crop of tomatoes ever. Was that a SALAMANDER? Brave girls! Love sitting by the creek. Wish I had one. But I have plenty of sunshine here–just in different forms.

I’m keeping on the sunny side by remembering a certain Psalm that includes the words “Cease striving and know that I am God.” (Ps. 46).

It wasn’t sunshine -constant rain and flooding this summer- but I’ll take it all over the dry summers we had a couple years ago, our spring and creek is finally back to normal.

walks in the woods
playing in the creek and finding spring lizards and crawdads
family reunion
best spring lettuce I ever grew
lots of flowers I didn’t plant

Tipper, great theme! I’ve tried to stay on the sunny side this summer too. I walk at Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain every morning. It is a beautiful little lake with a walking trail around it. The town does a wonderful job of maintaining the lake and trail. We have ducks, both wild and tame, geese, pigeons fish, frogs, and turtles. This summer there have been several sculptures added. One of the sculptures is a 16 foot long dragon in the lake, it is delightful. Everything at the lake adds to the sunny side of life.
The fresh summer fruits and vegetables also add to the sunny side. I adore peaches, strawberries and watermelon. I can eat a whole watermelon all by myself.
Looking at all the beautiful canned jam, jellies, and veggies make my sun shine.
And last, but certainly not least, those beautiful daughters of your! I just love it when you post pictures of my granddaughters—-now that is the sunny side!!

If you ever have the opportunity to go see the play, “Keep on the Sunnyside,” by all means, GO! It is worth every penny. At the time we got to see it, Janette Carter (A.P and Sara’s daughter) was still living…and Janette “approved” of the show. It’s sad though..touches your heartstrings. The book is good also…a good read. If the good Lord is willing and the creek don’t rise, we will go see it again whenever it comes by our way again.
Looks like you have had a nice sunny summer! It took a while but our tomatoes are coming on strong now.
what sunshine? is there supposed to be sun this time of year? it is 59, im wearing a sweatshirt hoodie and socks in the house and i am still cold. mark would never let me put the furnace on this early but geez la wheez it is nippy/1 we had 4 days of mid 80’s last week and i guess that was our big summer. hey! as long as its not snowing im not whinning to loudly 🙂 your girls are growing fast! my youngest is gonna be 33 end of nov and my oldest turned 40?!!!!!!!! in april. where in the heck does the time go.

Sunnyside….many things have been sunny this summer, and when they’re not….I always know I can come and visit Blind Pig and the Acorn and have the sun shining again.Thank you for that, Tipper AND family. They are just as much a part of Blind Pig as you are. But you knew that, didn’t you?

Tubing is wonderful and I miss it. Nothing better than to laze on the river just floating.
Your ‘maters’ turned out really good, bet they taste good too. I can just imagine them sliced on bread with mayo and lettuce with some pepper. Yum!

Always enjoy tapping my toes to you all playing and this is one of my favs. My summer has been filled with trying to avoid the heat and trying to build up my strength. Autumn’s coming and I need to be in top form for some traveling around the ‘big harsh.’ You know me and my pictures. 🙂 xxoo

Tipper: This was a neat post (fun photos) and the song was really great. I have been fighting a summer sinus infection which has made it pretty tough to keep on the sunny side of life. Thank you for the pick me up.
The song is a classic and I love it. It reminds us not to let things get us down and to look up. My sunshine has been my friends ministering to me and my Dad because I think he knew, some how. My grandmonsters have given me sunshine, and certainly kept me on my toes. Getting up early in the morning with the sun and birds and enjoying my first cup of coffee. Sitting on the back porch in the evening till the skeeters start biting and the old man says now Honey them skeeters gonna carry you off. That’s funny cause I’m no little bitty gal. I have sunshine and I am truly blessed. Ya’ll have blessed me too by being a nice, quiet place to go. Thanks
We have had a beautiful summer here in Huntington County. There have been many days with cool temperatures, bright warming sunshine and rain when we need it.
Our tomatoes are coming on now and the cucumbers are just ahead of the dill but I think those picklers I have brought in so far will keep in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator until the dill is ready.
I wish I could float around a mountain stream on an innertube.
It has been a nice, but too quick summer. We had family come stay with us for a month. There were 4 total. It was a nice but busy time for me. I started my fall garden and finished up a few left too long projects. I would say it was a good summer all in all.

Thanks for reminding us of the sunny stuff! I’ve enjoyed a good honey harvest, some really great zinnia blooms, watching my kids get better at swimming, and getting a new cat. There is so much to brighten the day!
