C. Ron-LOL thats a good question! Granny found the pattern in one of her books. Once she crocheted the outside she stuffed the inside-sorta like a pillow in the shape of a cake.
Have a good day : )

Could you give the recipe for holy smoke cake? Our 55 th anniversary is May 5, maybe I could make it. Love your blog
Congratulations to Pap and Granny, and many blessings in the years to come!
Congratulations Granny and Pop, you are a beautiful couple. God Bless You Both.
Tipper, Please pass my personal congratulations on to Pap and Granny. I feel like I know them through Blind Pig–through Pap’s playing, through his original songs, their answering Appalachian Questions and through “Grannyisms.” Thank you for introducing us! I know they are down-to-earth people as my forebears in the mountains were! “Salt-of-the-earth,” they are, and fellow Christians on the road of life. My husband and I (although he was sick for several years prior to his death) had our 61st anniversary Dec. 23, 2010, a month before his death on Jan. 26, 2011. How I miss him still! We traveled a wonderful road together. The crocheted cake is beautiful! What excellent handiwork. And you’ll have to share the recipe for “Holy Smoke” cake!! Congratulations to a wonderful couple. Please share this poem with them. I wrote it today just for them!
Anniversary Song
(for Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wilson)
When we started out so long ago
Our hopes were very high;
The way was bright and any woe
Buried–far from any faltering cry.
The path we chose was close and sweet,
Beset by changes we often met;
But we kept a strong faith to meet
Whatever came; our goals were set.
Looking back over fifty years
See now two lives, yielded, blended;
And family joys, superseding fears.
Thus may we be ’till earth-life is ended.
Come with me, my Love, my Friend,
Let’s celebrate the life we’ve made.
Let others wonder about triumphant end;
We, we rest on laurels in Love’s Garden glade!
-Ethelene Dyer Jones 04.26.2014
The average marriage in this country lasts seven years. If Granny and Pap were average, they should be starting their eighth one. However, as we all know, Granny and Pap are way above average!

Congratulations to Pap and Granny on your 50th anniversary! May God bless you both with many more happy years together.
Tipper,
I love the picture of your parents. What a great cake! I wonder when she crocheted it, if every loop-over was thought of as a day or hour in her marriage. The crochted roses and hearts are a wonderful touch as well. What a great idea! Of course it is a lot less fattening. I was glad to read she had a “Holy Smoke” cake as well!! After 50 years one should imbibe a bit and celebrate…”Holy Smoke” 50 years! Wow!
The Ring
Hold the trinket near thine eye,
And it circles earth and sky;
Place it further, and behold!
But a finger’s breadth of gold.
Thus our lives, beloved, lie
Ringed with love’s fair boundary;
Place it further, and its sphere
Measures but a falling tear.

Little Blue and I are coming up on our 43rd anniversary.
We need to hear more about the “crocheted cake” and the “Holy smoke cake”
Ken
Congratulations to Pap and Granny! Fifty years of marriage is quite an accomplishment. I know, hubs and I are coming up on 53 next year.
Holy Smoke Cake? I had to Google that. It is one of my favorites. We call it “Lucky If There Is Any Left” because it is a favorite dish to take to a church supper. I have also heard it called “Lush.”
It is good when made with other puddings, lemon, pistachio, and home made butterscotch.
So happy for the happy couple and for the family. All of you are a blessing to so many.
Congrats to Granny & Pap. Hope they have many more to come.
Congratulations to Pap and Granny. Today not many marriages last 50 years.
My late wife and I had been married 52 years when she passed away.
WOW! Fifty years, that’s a long time. Congratulations to Pap and Granny.
You are right, Tip, that is a cool cake!
Congratulations to Pap and Granny! My hubby and I are getting close to 50, exciting! I hope you enjoyed both the cakes, the one in the picture is beautiful!
