Today I’m sharing a riddle from Way Down Yonder on Troublesome Creek Appalachian Riddles & Rusties by James Still.
Ready to walk, long tongue, no talk.
The last one I shared was from Way Down Yonder on Troublesome Creek Appalachian Riddles & Rusties by James Still.
Spell “butter” in 4 letters.
The answer is: Goat. Several folks knew the answer.
Last night’s video: The Panther on Cold Mountain & Other Stories 11.

A dog.
I sort of like the wagon tongue answer from above.
I have a pair of Red Wings with a tongue but it is proportional to the boot. I have two pairs of boots that have no tongue at all. My shoes (that have tongues) have tongues that only come to the top of my foot.
Do Matt’s boots have a long tongue or even a tongue at all?
They do have a tongue 🙂
I do believe it is a shoe.
A tie up shoe or a pair of tie up tennis shoes.
Kathy Patterson
PS Sorry I cheated and found shoe but remembered that some shoes have tongues and other do not.
shoe or boot. I didn’t get the one whose answer was goat. I don’t think you can get butter with goats milk but it’s pretty good when cheese. guess you started reading another book now.
A plow?
No idea, but long tongue and can’t talk makes me think of the tongue on a wagon or trailer.
I want to thank everyone that wished me a happy birthday yesterday.
Happy belated birthday greetings Mr Randy.
Sounds like it could be a shoe.
My guess for the riddle…a shoe.
wrong again.
I’ll say a boot because of the “long tongue”.
Has to be a shoe
Boots?!
Shoe or boot.
“Ready to walk, long tongue, no talk”?
Sounds like a pair of workboots.
never occurred to me it was goat….todays riddle however I think I have but will keep it to myself so as not to tip off any other readers. bless your family’s hearts, I have watched each one of you share through videos a little of the hurt and missing of Granny—I confess each one brought me to tears listening to each describe a little of what it is like for you, the ache that shows on your faces and in your choked up voices breaks my heart (and it reminds me of my own pain of losing loved ones) but it also is a testament to Granny as to how special a lady she was to have left such an indelible mark in so many lives. Continued prayers for each of you. I hope spring gets here soon and its arrival chases away all the colds and sicknesses that bounces around there in your holler–if memory serves Granny was the only one not to have gotten sick with cold or stomach bug (God’s mercy must have thought she was dealing with enough.)
I’m no good at riddles but maybe this one is a shoe. That was my first thought.
A shoe/boot
a shoe. (God bless you!)
A walking stick bug
Good morning Tipper, Matt and Acorns. I love the Hurrah video last night. I use a tarp like that. I just pick up one end and drag it by myself. I have no idea how the answer to that riddle is goat. LOLI keep everyone here and up Wilson Hollow in my prayers. Love y’all.
Hey Tipper, I would say a boots or shoes.
Shoes
or boots?
shoes?
I’m guessing a shoe.
Shoe
Is the answer to the riddle, a shoe?
Shoe?
My guess is lace up boots or shoes. Snow is starting to melt, making me wish for spring, but it’s way too early and to cold the to do any work outside anyway. Take care Tipper and glad to see your able get outside to do o some yardwork!
A shoe? Have a blessed day as well as prepare for more cold coming… have a peaceful weekend. Praying all is well and all are well.
dog
A shoe!
A shoe.
We’re getting ready for a baby shower today. Our 8th grandbaby is going to be a boy, our 4th grandson. Gatherings to celebrate a new life coming is always so sweet. We can hardly wait to meet little Tucker Gene. He’s already so loved!
May all y’all find many blessings in your day. May each of you know how deeply loved you are by our Heavenly Father.
Debbie, Congratulations on baby #8. To sweet Miss Tipper: About the riddle. A boot. But boy, am I so very confused. I think I remember hating riddles as a child. Guess I still do. Hang in there families Wilson and Presley and Remember as God teaches, this too shall pass. But praise God for memories and the times y’all had with Miss Louzine. That’s a truly wonderful gift from God. I’m not trying to dismiss your loss or pain, but my heart breaks seeing your pain. It brings tears to my eyes. I love your family and Miss Louzine. Even just knowing y’all on YouTube, it feels like I’ve known you all personally.
shoe?
I think it’s a shoe.
We are supposed to get a big winter storm with lots of snow this weekend. I hope this one comes without all the ice. Stay safe and warm everyone.
