I’m sharing another riddle from “Way Down Yonder on Troublesome Creek Appalachian Riddles & Rusties” by James Still.
“Listen, Big Buddy. What is black as a
crow, stands on four legs, smokes a pipe, and
has to be fed morning, noon, and night?”
More than a few of you guessed the last riddle. The answer was his name.

June 1, 2019 at 5:43 pmHow about a cast iron wash pot? I can’t justify the pipe but sometimes they smoke a lot without it. They do have to be fed right regler too!
I gist didn’t wont to be like everbody else.

June 1, 2019 at 10:46 amMy mind went right to an old pot bellied stove. We had one in the country store my Mom ran for a time. That stove was black, but with a roaring fire of West Virginia coal would almost turn red. I recall them putting some type of blackening on it to make it look newer after a Winter. Coal was really cheap, and could heat a large area with a coal stove. No sense of danger whatsoever. If it is not a coal/wood stove then it should be 🙂
There was an old meat slicer, because everybody bought some type of good tasting lunch meat for lunches. Back in those days nobody inspected the meat cutter, but also nobody got sick. It was cleaned regularly even without oversight!

June 1, 2019 at 9:10 amWood stove! When you give an answer to a previous riddle, it would be great if you’d repeat the riddle. By the time you post the answer, I’ve forgotten the riddle!
