Corie Katie Paul with Guitars

The girls have been fooling around with the classic Judds’ song “Grandpa Tell Me ‘Bout The Good Old Days” for several months. I can’t tell you how many times they’ve tried to film the song. It just never worked out and once or twice they about give up, thinking they’d never get it done.

Although I felt bad for their inability to get the song captured on video, I’ve certainly enjoyed hearing their sweet harmony on the song whether it was on the front porch, in the backyard, or in Chatter’s old room.

The other day Paul was up playing music with Chatter and she said maybe if he helped play they’d finally get the video made—and they did.

I hope you enjoyed that sweet harmony as much as I do. Chatter’s guitar playing was mighty fine too.

Having lived around family harmony singers for the entirety of my life, the melodious sounds speaks to my heart in a way nothing else does. The Judds had the same lovely tones in their music.

  1. That was beautiful. I have just stumbled on your blog and You Tube channel. My daddy was born and raised near London Kentucky. Hearing your family play together reminds me of listening to him play and sing to my Mama.

  2. Absolutely beautiful! This song always brings tears to my eyes and the girls with Paul nailed it. I hope you do more together. Have a blessed Sunday everyone!

  3. Was so thrilled when I saw the Judd song being performed by the girls & Paul. I had emailed Corrie about a week or so before asking her if they could sing that song. It reminded me of Pap. They did a beautiful job & I know Naomi and her daughters would be proud! We will never know exactly how hard & how long they worked on that song, but I thank them so much. They, along with Paul, did an awesome job. Tipper, you & Matt have 2 beautiful, talented & wholesome girls & I know y’all go to bed every night thanking the good Lord for them. Y’all have a Happy & Safe 4th of July holiday!

  4. Beautiful harmony. Great job!! I think you did the song perfectly!! The guitar playing was superb!! Most of all you touched my heart and I really felt the words. The words are very personal to me.

Listening to this song this morning brought the tears. It’s the first time since my daddy passed away in 1997 that I could bring myself to listen to the song again. This song was played at his funeral because it spoke to us in so many ways about him. He was a storyteller and told so many stories to us as we grew up, but he especially loved to tell stories to his grandchildren about the good old days. My daddy was born in 1917. He lived through the Great Depression, served our nation in WWII, After he returned from the war, he married our mother and I was born when he was just turning 40 years old. So he had lots of stories to tell us about the good ol’ days. He also sang to us the songs he knew from the era in which he grew up. Lots of the songs were ballads, hymns, and folk songs that live on in my memory. I catch myself singing them often as I do my chores. Sometimes a song the girls sing on Blind Pig happens to be one of the songs my daddy sang when I was growing up. It always takes me right back to that time and place as a young girl when we would sit in the living room and listen to daddy sing. Such feelings of nostalgia will hit me like a ton of bricks when I hear them. This time the song the girls sang was a sweet remembrance of a lifetime of my daddy’s stories about the good ol’ days. Thank you!!

  5. So much to learn from our elders before they fade away. I hung on every opportunity and see it my responsibility to pass on the good old days stories best I can in my poetry and writings. My daughter has a big old banner a hanging in her family room that says, “The good old days are now.” That’s a comfort that things are right with many of our youth in strange times. God be with us in our journey. Amen.

  6. Wonderful – listening to such talent and beautiful sentiment/music and seeing a family doing something together – this has warmed my heart.

  7. Girls, that was really good!! That song is a favorite of mine and makes me wish for the days of my youth and before the country became woke.

  8. I really enjoyed listening to the girls and Paul! Their rendition of this song was really good and I’m sure Naomi looked down with a smile while this song was being recorded. I’d say you did yourselves proud on this one! I myself would like to ask my grandpa to tell me about the good ole days!!! I wish I lived back then sometimes. Have a blessed day y’all!!!

  9. Y’all did amazing. Love listening to y’all sing and play. I’m sure the Judds would be honored to hear this. Thanks for sharing.

  10. You three did a fine job with that song. Must have been meant for such a time as this.

As they played and sang that song they were making what will become one of those “good old days” in looking back. Life tries so hard to teach us that what we truly value most is not the material. Always seems for most of us we come out “sorta” knowing it but the material always shoves its way in; people to see, places to.go, jobs that must be done. And oftentimes in later years we look back and recognize the ‘coulda, woulda, shoulda’ opportunities missed. We do get better at seeing them and not missing them though.

Tomorrow, on the 246th birthday of these United States, we can be grateful for the grace that has brought us safe thus far.

  11. Totally enjoyed that performance. The girls & Paul did a great job. Sometimes I wonder if they realize how much talent they have. Keep up the Good work & God Bless .

  12. I’ve always been a big fan of the judds and especially this song mainly because of its message and their harmony with it!
And I really enjoyed the girls and Paul playing and their harmony with it as well. I’m sure glad they didn’t give up on it. It was great!!!!❤️

  13. Yes, the Judds had that perfect harmony that is rarely heard outside of family, just like you guys do. I enjoyed the girls performing this song. Paul gave them that glue they needed to make it solid. The girls have always sounded good to me, from the time they were little. As time has gone on, they have gotten over theirs jitters more and more, and have developed their own style that is their personal signature in the music world. But they have always had that sister sound that I have enjoyed hearing from them. I don’t like saying they keep getting better – because they have always been better in my opinion. I have been so happy to watch as they have cemented their “better-ness” into what fits their musical personalities. They are my favorite sister group!

    Donna. : )
