Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers who read the Blind Pig and The Acorn. Your families and the world are better off for having you!

Over the years the Blind Pig gang has done several songs about mothers. Here’s a few of them:

As you can see we love and respect the mothers of the world!

I count myself beyond blessed for having my dear sweet mother and the other mothers who’ve impacted my life like Miss Cindy, Mamaw, Granny Gazzie, my aunts, and the many mothers who attended New Martins Creek Church when I was a girl.

Earlier this week Ron Stephens left a comment with this line in it: “To all the Moms, biological or by love’s adoption, God bless you.”

I couldn’t have said it better!

  12. Tipper, I love that you and your mom are wearing coordinating outfits in the picture! Did your mom make both of them? I am pretty sure she made the little striped popover you are wearing. I recognize that pattern – made it a dozen or so times for my daughters.

When I was young ladies wore fresh flower corsages to church on Mother’s Day – pink or red if your mother was living, white if she had passed away. I don’t see that happening in the big city I now live in, but I wonder if it still happens in small towns.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Blind Pig moms!

  13. Happy Mother’s Day! When I was a little girl, the mother of a friend of mine used to play the organ for us and taught us the words to the old old hymn My Mother’s Bible. Wondering if you or any of your readers know that one.

  17. My Mother, Patricia, was an Air Force Mom. Dad sometimes served this great country remotely (by himself without us); sometimes for weeks or months, and even my entire senior year of high school Mom and us kids moved to Kansas while Dad went back to Southeast Asia; this time Thailand. Mom had to do EVERYTHING, and did it with loving grace and amazing efficiency. Mom and Dad sent cassette tapes back and forth so they could hear each other’s voices; to compliment their written letters. On the one I still have, Mom shared her plight, and ran down how each of us were doing. When she got to me, she said, “Paul; well he is Paul.” I only had to go to high school half a day to graduate, and had 2 jobs. But I was an “independent” child (trying to prop myself up here…) and my last day of school was on a Thursday, and on Friday morning I jumped in that ’67 mustang and drove 1500 miles to the ocean. My older brother had moved back home so I didn’t leave Mom without a “man” (in my case a male; thought I was a man) while Dad was overseas. We moved to Kansas because he was in his senior year of college there. Mom said she’d talked with Dad, and handed me $200 in traveler’s checks (in 1975 that was a lot of money), and we hugged and she kissed me and I drove off with her crying. It breaks my heart now as it did then to see her cry. But Mom and Dad did ALL they could do to give me a good foundation, and it only took 19 more years for me to catch on. I’m thankful God gave me another 19 years, and a great Dad and WONDERFUL MOM. I love you Mom.

    1. This indeed a special day for special people. We honor mothers both living and dead. In times past we wore a flower to indicate that: a red rose or some other red flower if our mother was still living, a white to say she was deceased. I guess that custom faded away.

  23. Happy Mother’s Day to everyone reading that is a mama. I am so blessed to be the mama of two very wonderful children, who are parents themselves. And I am also blessed to have the sweetest mama ever to celebrate with today.

  24. Happy Mothers Day to Tipper, Granny, Katie, Corie and all other Mothers. May everyone have a beautiful and Blessed day.

  26. Happy Mother’s Day! Like you said, I have been blessed beyond measure in my 70 years by all of the different mothers I have been around in my life. Many of them were like a second mother to me, especially my mother in law. In my married life I put my wife above all, In my mind there was never a better wife, mother or grandmother on earth. My son and I will be going to her grave later on today. It does not have to be a special day for me to go to her grave, I go at least once or twice a week or any time I am close to the cemetery and keep fresh flowers on her grave year round.
