Today I’m sharing another one of my favorite Christmas songs. I’ve shared it in previous posts over the years, but good songs don’t ever get old to me.
The last days of the year always seem hopeful to me. I suppose it’s because all those good feelings of Christmas are still riding high in the thoughts of my mind. What ever the reason, as the current year draws to a close and the new year quickly approaches I always feel a hopefulness for things to come.
The song “Good Christian Men Rejoice” embodies the hope that dwells in my heart. The song is among the oldest Christmas carols, you can read about the journey it took to reach us all the way from the 13th Century by going here.

Absolutely beautiful. I did not realize it was a 13th century song our ancestors brought from Europe.
How wonderful that songs and traditions from Europe are still a daily part of our lives especially around Christmas.
Here in Carroll County we had 60 mile and hour wind gusts last night and into this morning. Some areas of the county did not have power. We were lucky our power is still on and the monitor is still pumping hot air into the house. Charles was already with the buddy heater and the jackery. To windy for the wood stove because we are on top of a hill and the smoke always blows down the chimney in windy weather. The dogs are great. They hunkered down in the “library” and I turned on their dog warming bed for them. I also turned up the heat in there. The weather service in Blacksburg reported that our area was at 0 F wind-chill and it is only December! The brown and black woolly worms had large amounts of black on their head, small amounts of brown in the middle, and large amounts of black on the end of their bodies. Now I know the black woolly worm was right— a cold winter– it was 100% black and trying to make a cocoon on the deck.. Stay warm– Kathy Patterson

How is it that “The Christmas Carol” ends? Isn’t it that Ebenezer Scrooge kept Christmas in his heart every day of the year? You do that I think. You have me thinking this morning. You do that often. I’ll have to study on it.
On another note, I made our grandson a slingshot for Christmas as an aid in telling the story of when his great-grandpa squirrel hunted with one to help feed the family during the Depression. I hope he will remember. Anyway, he seemed to be taken with it. I cut the stock from our crape myrtle in the yard.
Gotta admit I got misty eyed listening to Granny singing I Looked All Over Heaven. What a beautiful, clear and sweet voice…the voice of an angel. Listening to that, I could clearly see your daddy, in heaven, saying “you won’t have to look all over because I’m right here, patiently waiting for you. Take your time, we’ve got eternity on our side”.♡

I hadn’t heard that song in years! Paul and Pap did a beautiful rendition of it. The lyrics about Christ opening Heaven’s door are so wonderful and reassuring.
It has been a long time since I have heard this song. I like all of the old Christmas Carols but now I have a hard time listening to them, some of them bring tears to my eyes.
Tipper, I have just read the old post from August 6 2009 titled Just Touch Of The Past. I read what you wrote about going places and remembering things you did there at some time in the past. Nowadays, I can go nowhere around here without remembering happy things I did there at some point of time in my life, many of them with wife. How I wish it was possible and long to go back, to when my life was so much happier.

I really enjoyed this song this morning. Pap and Paul did a wonderful job singing it. I enjoy all their songs, though! I was so happy to see Granny and hear her message to all of us. I especially love seeing her sweaters. I’m looking for someone that can knit like her, so that I can have some beautiful sweaters. My mom could years ago, but she is gone now. I miss her so. Prayers and good wishes for the new year!

Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” A joyful heart and mind are good medicine for the soul and body. Pap & Paul’s singing is what I needed this morning. It’s such a good way to start the day by hearing their voices in song. I’m so glad you all had a wonderful Christmas this year. Seeing Granny able to attend was the highlight of the video. Praying for comfort for her in 2026. Happy New Year to all the Pressley’s, Wilson’s, and the Graddick’s in 2026.

Wonderful to see Granny! All the Christmas songs have stories and history. Pray for my brother’s father in law, Ray. He fell and broke his femur. Having surgery. Also has pneumonia. He is 101, a WW 2 Marine Corp veteran. God bless all! Happy New Year!

That’s a beautiful hymn and your Pap and Paul did a marvelous rendition of this happy song! And there’s a joy in Christ nothing else will satisfy or measure up to no matter what! Hallelujah! It feels like 1 whole degree out there in the VA highlands area with a dusting of the white stuff (we don’t use the S word here lol.) My mind is dreaming of sunflowers this morning and getting my seeds out. I found 2 large milk cans I want for the porch and an old desk yesterday at an antique shop. He’s got it all in there (and then some) and I am dreaming of the stuff I saw there too… oh well dreams are what keeps us hanging in there ain’t they??? Have a great day yall and remember looking and dreaming cost not and there’s no crowd there… Bless all of you hillbillies from this hillbilly!!! (I just call it like I see it yall… )

Thank you for another great Christmas song this morning. I love to listen to Christmas music long after the day has passed. I decided to be more like Granny and begin preparing early with my crochet. I started making some cute little Christmas stuffies for next year for the grandchildren. My first one is a happy grinch. He is only 6 inches tall and so cute. My next one is gonna be a little gingerbread man. Your mama looked so beautiful in her crochet sweater. She is an inspiration for us all.
