The John C. Campbell Folk School’s famed Fall Festival is just around the corner. Here’s the details from their website.
October 6, 2018 — October 7, 2018
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Adults $5; Ages 12 – 17, $3; under 12, free.
Visit over 250 fine craft exhibitors tucked along the school’s winding wooded paths. Watch more than 30 artisans demonstrate traditional and contemporary crafts. Fill your ears with bluegrass, gospel, folk, and Celtic music on both days. Tap your toes to clogging, Morris, Rapper Sword, and Garland dance performances throughout the weekend.
Children will enjoy the pony rides, petting the alpacas, and visiting the animals at the Humane Society’s pet adoption booth. Face painting and arts and crafts activities will be offered by the Cherokee County Arts Council.
Hungry festival goers can satisfy their appetites with a tasty lunch, dessert, or snack. Vendors’ concession proceeds benefit several non-profit and community organizations.
The Folk School’s renowned Craft Shop, containing fine crafts from over 600 juried regional artists, will draw visitors throughout the weekend and be offering a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to the Craft Shop.
IMPORTANT TIPS:
No pets allowed.
While many vendors accept credit cards, attendees are encouraged to bring cash to pay for tickets and food.

The Pressley Girls will perform on the Festival Barn Stage at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday Oct 7. If you make it to our performance PLEASE come up and say hello!

Every time late September rolls around, I think of 2015 and my visit to Murphy, Brasstown and the John Campbell Folk School. Just like the rain and flooding of Florence, 2015 saw the heavy rains from another hurricane and it fell very hard on Brasstown….cancelling the JCCFS Fall Festival….for the first time. I missed the Fall Festival and some how I don’t believe that I will ever get back your way. Makes me very sad as I loved my trip to Western NC. That fall the colors were especially beautiful. Wish I could meet you again and enjoy the Pressley Girls at the Fall Festival. Maybe I could fly down to Ashville and rent a car. Don’t think I have such a long solo road trip in me any more. Darn freeways are bumper to bumper of semis moving 80 and above. Makes me a little nervous……but I did have fun. Hope the weather treats you all good and the festival is a huge success…..again.
as much as I want to come it is too far to walk from Dawsonville to Brasstown. I totaled my truck last week.

I saw the JCCSF at the Mother Earth fair in Asheville some years back, but ya’ll weren’t there. :(. We’d love to come & look at the local goods & listen!
I want to win the tickets…not for myself…but for my Son (Arthur) and daughter-in-law (Rachel). They have had her aged Mother in their home for many years and she has been bed-ridden for about 7 years. I thank that being in the mountains at this time of year would be such a Blessing for them. They do so much to help others, including me. Rachel is a very talented quilter and artist.

Wow! And thanks for the picture of the 1989 Fall Festival banner. Haven’t seen it in a long time. It’s special to us as my wife, Marolyn, made it for the school.
Well, shoot, so near yet so far. lol When I saw the heading of your blog today I thought this is going to be great as we are going to be in the Smoky Mountains for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. I thought the dates looked good until I noted that the Pressley girls are going to be preforming on Sunday and we won’t get to Pigeon Forge til the following Monday. We have been through that area years ago but didn’t know about the John Campbell School so unfortunately we missed it even then. Maybe one of these years before I get too old, I will make it to the festival as it now takes us two days to get to that area.

So enjoy finding The Blind Pig in my inbox daily. Having been born in W.Va. it sparks many memories that bring a smile to my face. I now live at the other end of the Appalachians – Dahlonega, Ga. – and find little difference in its folk ways or it’s people’s strength of character, generosity and grit. I have never been to JCCFS, and would LOVE to go. I’ll bet I have a friend or two exhibiting there even. Tommye Scanlin is often a teacher there for weaving, but I’ve never been able to go. I am now semi-retired, and had already planned to do a little traveling this fall. Perhaps now is the time ‘- )

Good morning, Tipper! I went to the festival for the first time last year and it was amazing! A friend is visiting me in Ellijay next week and we planned her trip to coincide with the festival. I’m not able to get to JCC as often as I’d like, but I was able to go to the shaped note singing and the cookbook release with my granddaughter. We love JCC!
