Granny and Katie – Christmas Day 2025

Granny was so touched by all the Christmas cards, gifts, and prayers that you all sent to her for Christmas, that she wanted to do something special to return the favor.

She noticed many of the cards mentioned how much people like to hear her sing, so she wanted to close out 2025 by sharing another video of us singing together. She was gussied up for Tipper to take her to one of her appointments, and I grabbed the guitar and camera.

Granny and I both have always loved the song “Each Step I Take,” though we never tried to sing it together, and to my knowledge, she never sang it with Pap.

I was reminded of the song by our friends over on the Rowland Zimmerman Family channel. Rowland and his son, Ryan, sang the hymn in one of their recent live performances. You can see them here.

I expect that someone in the comments will mention that we need to have Granny sing into a microphone. That’s a wonderful idea. There’s just one problem. Granny doesn’t want to sing into a microphone. 🙂

To try to balance the volume a little better, I tried to pull my volume down a little and aim my voice away from the camera, while reminding Granny to aim hers toward the camera. Hopefully, you will be able to hear her well enough. I can hear her fine on my computer, but cell phones might be a different story.

While researching this song, I found a really pretty choir version. I also learned that one of the most well known recordings of it is by the great Slim Whitman. Slim recorded the song in 1960.

Granny and I hope you enjoy this hymn and that you try to live your life as described in the song, by trusting in the unfailing hand of the Lord.

It goes without saying how precious Granny is to all your fans, Tipper! I wish I had the videos of my mother that you will have with yours when Granny has gone home. May God showers her with blessings galore! You can look back at her anytime, and that’s a blessing. I must also agree with comments on Granny’s lovely sweater. Lovely is such an inadequate word to describe it, but it is just that….lovely! I keep her and your family in my prayers each night, and hope Granny continues to be blessed by our heavenly father!

  12. I have sung and led that song many times growing up. As kids we didn’t always appreciate the message. Jesus gets more precious each day. I am so glad that granny was well enough to sing with Paul and these memories will be so much more special when she does go home. So many things remind me of my mom who left this earth in 2009. I was so blessed to have her as a mother.

  16. I just got home from church and what a wonderful gift to receive. Paul and Granny can certainly make beautiful music! The highlight of my day is usually reading what you write and an extra joy is when I hear Granny sing. Let Granny know I have crocheted since I was 10 years old (I’ll be 70 this year) and that is one of the prettiest crocheted sweaters I’ve seen. I know what joy and relaxation she gets from doing it. Did she ever knit? I do that too but not often because it is much more tedious. Love to you all on this crisp Sunday.

  24. Oh that was absolutely beautiful and heartfelt from you both! Thank you so much for the beautiful song performed by beautiful people! Amen!!! Thank you Lord Jesus, for Granny and Paul. I’ve always heard “if a man is good to his mother—he’ll be good to his wife”-my granny Neese used to say… God bless everybody in this New Year! Norman Chester, if you got no money or fantastic insurance, take my word for it, the infirmary will throw you out quicker than you can say howdy…as a RN, I had to “find that money” so there’s that…gargle with warm IODIZED salt water several times a day, rest and stay hydrated…then let go and trust the Lord if you ain’t got much money… Gods blessings on everybody…God tells us plainly if we are last on this earth in the eyes of men, we will be FIRST in heaven! Hallelujah for the truth!

  30. I’d never heard “Each Step I Take” until I was an adult, and it was Daddy who brought it to my attention. I have no idea what led him to it; he wouldn’t sing in public, but requested that it be sung one evening at a church supper; this must’ve been when he was 98 or 99 years old. I don’t know that he’d heard it before. He just liked the message in the lyrics. I think the only people who sang it that evening were those who could read music.

I occasionally would catch him singing to himself at the kitchen table after breakfast, and one day not long after that, I heard him singing “Each Step I Take.” He could actually carry a tune well, though the volume was always just barely above a whisper.

We sang it at Daddy’s funeral service, per his request.

  31. Happy Sunday! What a blessing to hear Granny and Paul singing praises to our Lord. How true the lyrics of the song are. If you are a believer in Christ Jesus, no matter where you’re from or how old you are, each day, each breath, each step we take leads us closer to our heavenly home. We just need to trust in Jesus every step of the way. Thank you Granny and Paul for blessing us this morning by sharing your talents in sweet music this morning. Granny you can still sing beautiful harmony. We thank God for you and praying for you too. Your faith has been an inspiration to us all. We love you Granny.

  32. Granny’s voice sounded perfect and you two made beautiful music together. Thank you both for a lovely song this morning.

  33. Amen! Reminds me suddenly and unexpectedly of “We Are Going Down the Valley”. So sweet this AM to hear and see you two. We were told the Lord’s last step in his earthly life. “Into thy hand I commend my spirit.” I’m a long ways down the road toward home.

  34. I just loved y’all singing together. Granny reminds me so much of my sweet Mama. I cry almost every time I hear her talk or sing. Praying for Granny. She is so loved. God bless!

  38. God bless granny, I enjoyed the song, pray for me today, thank you for praying for my brother that has cancer, it seems that my vocal cords are swollen, I’ve been to the doctor, the emergency room, the doctor said it could be from tobacco use, I quit smoking about 2 years ago, but I’ve been using chewing tobacco since then, and it could be due to some medication I’m taking, the doctor ran out on me, and the nurse wanted me discharged, and the papers said see, ear nose and throat doctor, Google said the swelling could be caused by my heart medication, that it needed immediate attention, and the nurse said I needed to take it up with my heart doctor, so here I am, please pray for me thank you and God bless you

    1. Norman, I will be praying for you. I know that’s scary feeling. Hope you can find out what’s going on. Prayers also for your brother. God bless you.
