solve learning riddles from appalachia

I’m sharing another riddle from “Way Down Yonder on Troublesome Creek Appalachian Riddles & Rusties” by James Still.

Which side of a fox hound has the most hair?

The last riddle I shared was from from “Way Down Yonder on Troublesome Creek Appalachian Riddles & Rusties” by James Still.

There’s a red calf in the meadow,
and she’ll eat hay on any day, but
give her a drink of water and she’ll perish.

Several folks got this one: a fire.

  1. The fox riddle reminded me of a tale I heard somewhere about a fox hunter whose passion for his sport was so intense that it sometimes affected his reasoning. For example, he once swapped a hog for a fox hound. His wife was beside herself, and lit into him: “What is wrong with you? Are you tetched in the head? Why would you to go and trade our only hog for an old hound? Tell me why. Now we’ll have no winter meat!” It went on for some time. Unfazed, the old hunter finally replied, “Listen, old woman. Anybody knows you can’t run a fox with a hog!”

  2. I’m going to say the outside.

Another good reading last night. I think my husband may have picked the dulcimer also. 🙂 He always has had a love for them, can’t play one but loves the sound. Praying Granny is feeling better today. Have a great Saturday everyone!

  3. I didn’t get that last riddle at all, but now I see it as plan as day. That was a good one!
As for this new riddle I’d say neither, he doesn’t have hair he has fur. But I’m sure that’s not it either because there has got to be more to it than I’m thinking. It will be interesting to learn the answer.

  4. Good morning (and I really stink at riddles.)I suppose dealing with the day to day is all the figuring out riddles my blown mind can handle!!! Lol but serious. Wishing all of you out here a beautiful day and many blessings for a joyous and good day especially Granny, you, Matt, and the girls.

  5. Uum…my guess is the “outside”. That’s a tricky one for sure. I did not get the last one right, but I saw where lots of others did. I have never been very good at riddles or puzzles of any sort. Happy Saturday everyone. I just woke up super early this morning.
