Here’s more winners from the Thankful November giveaways. If you see your name please send your mailing address to me at blindpigandtheacorn @ gmail.com

The winner of the used book Appalachian Values is Susan T who said: “Loved the book section. It rings so true. Really liked the story about Pap. Thanks for sharing!”

The winner of the used book Tall Woman is Betty King who said: “Sounds like a good book.”

The winner of the “Shepard of My Soul” cd is Regina who said: “Wow! What an awesome song. If that don’t bring a smile to your face and put some pep in your step I don’t know what will. Paul and Corie did a wonderful job. I think they sound a lot better than some of that stuff they’re calling country nowadays.”

The winner of the used book Mountain Bred is Larry Eddings who said: “Sourwood trees are abundant here on the Cumberland Plateau and Sourwood honey has long been my favorite. I’ve never thought about putting it on apple pie, but I’ve sure eaten it on a lot of biscuits. I’ll have to try that soon.”

  1. I left a comment on today’s post (11-30-22) but when I looked back I see that I am supposed to leave it on this post. Tipper, thanks for all you do. I sure would love to have those pumpkins!

  2. Thé pumpkins are adorable. I love anything handmade, it’s extra special that someone took the time and has the talent to make it.

  3. Ok I know I’ve said this a couple other times but those pumpkins are just so cute! She does such good work on those pumpkins! I wish I could do that I have tried but I don’t have the talent she does! I was able to get one little one when she had them in her store but I think I got there too late I got the very last one! I would love to win this set it would be like having her pumpkins each one representing each member of my family with the one I already have!:). We are a family of three and if I could win these well that would just be perfect!:) we love your videos watch them every Sunday evening after supper usually! We also watch all the girls videos too they make us laugh and of course we love olive the dog too! We’re big dog lovers we also have 3 little dogs the pumpkins could represent them as well! There all rescues!:).

  4. I just love these little punkins! She must whip these up pretty fast. I’m like that with hats and sewing projects. knitting takes me a bit longer & I get bored easy if the pattern doesn’t ‘finish up’ soon or has lots of repetitive parts to it. I think that is why I love doing socks so much. By the time I am getting bored with the leg its time to to turn the heel. By the time I’m bored with the heel, its time for the gusset! I should have made some of these for my Thanksgiving table today! We always have our Thx-giving on the weekend and invite a whole bunch of people we aren’t even related to (some are : ) ). Guests start arriving in about 2 hours & I am pooped. 25 people, 2 turkeys, 7 lbs of potatoes, 3 casseroles, 5 toddlers & a partridge in a pear tree. Oh, and its candlelit with all the fancy dishes inherited from my great grandmother. No other way to do it, in my book!

  5. Congratulations to the winners! Thank you, Tipper and family for sharing your lives and talents with us. I’ve been enjoying the book you are reading so much. Chatter’s crocheted pumpkins are lovely. Fall is my favorite season, so I just love the colors and decor this time of year. God bless you and yours.

  6. Congratulations to all y’all who won!! I’m keeping a running list of the books hoping I can find them, or borrow them from the library. Those pumpkins are just adorable! Our 11 year old granddaughter has learned to crochet and I want to show her these pictures for encouragement! Many blessings!

  7. Congratulations to all of the winners! Enjoyed the reading last night. Coursing the bees was interesting to me because I also have had a fascination with bees and the whole process with them. Don’t want to get stung though because I am allergic. I went back and watched your video with Matt tapping into the birchwood tree. Getting the liquid in the jar then getting some shavings and doing a taste test was really interesting. I bet birchwood candy would be good. Have a great day everyone!

  8. Congratulations to all the winners! I know you will enjoy the gifts.

On slightly different tack, I really enjoyed Paul’s presentation of All Aboard!
It is a great song and was done by a great bluegrass/gospel group: Del McCoury.

Paul did an excellent job presenting the deeper meaning of the lyrics.

  9. Congratulations to all the winners. The pumpkins are pretty. I never learned to crochet but did a lot of macramé years ago.

  10. Would be proud to add those pumpkins to my fall display. Sure miss being in NC especially for the fall and spring seasons.

  11. Congratulations again to the new crop of winners.

I tried the apple pie and honey and those two truly are a delicious pair. But I am now out of apple pie.

I am reading “The Dollmaker” now and knowing that country (both of our families are there still) I can get inside the story when she doesn’t name the names I know. I wish though I didn’t know the things I remember from having seen the movie years ago. It makes me dread some of what is coming.

Arnow’s repeated references of various people going to the Northern factories is all-too-familiar to me. We three kids lived some of that ourselves when Dad worked ‘up North’. The post yesterday about the Mom sitting on the fire escape crying for home wrung my heart. God knows I’ve been there even if there were no visible tears.

  12. Congratulations to all of the winners. The talk about apple pie and honey reminded me I had not had any sourwood honey in a long time. It is hard to come by in SC but my son found me some at the Pickens, SC jockey/flea market last Wednesday morning. It came from NC. I along with him have been enjoying hot buttered biscuits and sourwood honey for the last few mornings. He said sourwood honey is the best tasting honey he has ever ate.

  13. Congrats guys! Hope everyone is enjoying family, tons of great food, tons of traditions, some sales and decorating this Thanksgiving weekend. We didn’t find anything we’d call sales, on our first Black Friday outing in over 30 yrs, (never got to go until we retired so we thought we’d give it a try.) Found out we weren’t missing a thing and will probably never go again haha My gifts are more in line at thrift stores, shopping for an antique bee-sting crock I can afford for my daughter inlaw. Or an antique surveyors tube used for maps, for a son who collects and carry’s posters from time to time. Or piecing together a Revere Ware pots&pans set, so my son can have the best ever set, like my old set! Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

    1. Lorie, I don’t mess with the sales. Many family members have passed away over the last few years, my wife passed away last year. The holidays are not and will never be the same. One of my wife’s sisters cooked a Thanksgiving meal for the family. I tried my best to show her my appreciation by the amount I ate, especially the dressing, no stuffing for this old southern country boy! I have been known to eat more dressing and skip dessert at these meals.

    2. I live near where the Revere Ware was made! We love Revere & it used to be on every bride’s wish list around here. My grandmother had some nice ones. They look so pretty when the copper bottoms are shined up – they last forever. The older ones are better, but harder to find. Check Ebay. Hubby & I went out this Friday for the first time, too. Found NOTHING of any use on ‘sale’ & the sales weren’t that good. The only thing exceptional were bikes for $48 (reg. $78) that hubby grabbed for Toys for Tots. We agreed it wasn’t ever worth it again. But I have to say, even though the 2 places we went were crowded, people were very relaxed & patient. Gives me hope.

  14. Congratulations to all the winners. Enjoy. Chatter’s pumpkins are so cute. You are all so talented. I am reading “The Tall Woman” now and I would not have known about this book if I hadn’t found Blind Pig. I am thankful for you Tipper.

  15. Look- I’m thankful for you, Tipper, and the enrichment you bring to my daily mundane life! I learn something or look at something in ways I never studied on before when I happen upon your terrific blog! I need no crocheted pumpkins or anything else and just being here and enjoying it all is what I’m thankful for!!! Much thanks to you and the readers for sharing interesting ideas every day!!!!

  16. After reading your blog yesterday, my wife and I watched The Doll Maker. We both really enjoyed it. the dialogue and accents were spot on and the story was very touching. I don’t know how true the movie is to the book, but now we want to read the book.

  17. I never thought my husband would be as big a fan of your and yours readings as I am. After every Friday’s reading, he says, ‘I love the way she brings the book to life and this is the first time I have been able to relate to everyone episode…so, you now have two faithful followers and already cannot wait til next Friday. Stay warm and well and keep doin’ what you guys are doin’…God Bless

  18. That’s so kind of you to acknowledge your readers’ each November. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  19. Hello, I only discovered your blog a few weeks ago after seeing a YouTube video of you cooking. I signed up a few days ago for your daily postings. While I don’t live in your area I looked up my family tree to see how many of my ancestors I could find that came from NC and I appreciate the positive email every morning.

  20. I love the little pumpkins and would enjoy having them be part of my harvest decorations next year. When I look at them, I will be reminded of your family. Through the blog, I feel like I really know you. I am enjoying the latest book you are reading and I am sharing it with my siblings and a friend.
