“I reckon I’m like a dog. Sometimes it comes over me and I gotta bark. And let me tell you it come over me and I got all tore up and let it fly. I don’t think they knew what to think, but I gave’em plenty to study on.”

old family sayin ” you can kick me in the shins , but don’t make me bleed”.
Synonymous with “throwing a tantrum” or “having a hissy fit”.
It’s been known to happen from time to time. ☺️ Now I’ll remember that colorful phrase next time I get barked at or do the barking myself.
I’m a lot like that. I can hold my piece for a while, then I let it go. I guess I’m a lot like Matt, when I loose my temper it’s Katie bar the door.
happens to me from time to time.
at least I don’t bite, snap or growl.
Today I overheard a song on the radio. it’s the song by The Guess Who called She’s Come Undone. you know with a little creative song writing, Paul could rewrite in honor of Matt. It could be renamed He’s Come Unfed.
My daughter says…”Mom, your filter is off”…LOL
We’re expecting snow today here in central Oklahoma…just when the wisteria is blooming…who would have thought….snow in April…wow!!
I add to my first comment as can’t find a way to edit it – my husband’s nickname for me was “Mutt” as he always spoke of himself to me as ‘your faithful mutt’ or ‘yfm’ – he would often write me sweet notes signed as ‘yfm’ – so he used the word ‘barking’ when he would hear anyone raising their voices. I miss him so much.
I’ve known a few ‘barkers’ throughout the years, and recall a time years ago, after a particularly difficult day, when my husband and I were ‘barking’ at each other when he looked at me and said ‘ why are we barking at each other – we are kennel mates!’ That settled it for the barking henceforth.
Wanita, thank you for sharing!! I’m so glad you were together. I know you miss him so much.
That reminds me of the times I should have controlled my temper and my tongue and of a few letters I wrote that I shouldn’t have mailed.
That so funny! Love it!
I feel like as I get older, I pause and think about things more…instead of barking. Life is much more pleasant that way. lol.
It is almost dinner time, I am running late today! This makes me think of my Daddy, he was slow to anger, but if he ever did get angry, he was almost as slow to cool off. There was only a few times I saw him get mad. If you compared him to a dog , he would be along the lines a pit bull. But when I think it, he usually had a good reason to get mad. He did not fight, but what he said or told you was the truth.
I watched Tipper, planting taters last night and saw two things. One she just cuts her taters and plants them, she did not leave them out and let the cut end “scab” over. The other is she was still able to run back and forth between her sack of potatoes and the row. One of these days in the future she will be dragging her sack as close to the row as she can can and trying her best to not have to run or walk anywhere. I have been nursing a sore ankle all week on top of my arthritis. I am too stubborn (hardheaded, stupid) to go to the doctor. I like to say “when you are young and wake up with something hurting, you go to the doctor and then as you get older, you wake up and if something is NOT hurting you go to the doctor to see if you are still alive.” I have also learned as I get older, I know less and less. I was a genius when I was a teenager!
This is equivalent to: “It just flew all over me!”
Reminds me of, “his bark is worse than his bite.” I’ve had a few times I boiled over on somebody but it makes me disappointed in myself afterwards. There are times and places though where sharpness is needed if folks won’t hear anything else.
Sometimes that dog just needs to bark. Giving folks something to study on can be a good thing.
How can you expect to control others if you can’t control yourself? You can write that down!
That’s hilarious! I never heard of letting it all out was like a dog, I’ve heard of scrapping like two junk yard dogs though. . My favorite is they fought like two cats with tails tied together. Btw, I got ( acquired by light theft) more forsythia and put it over the front hill. I hope it does grow and I will think of you and dear Granny if it does! I awoke to a nice morning today so there’s plenty to be thankful for. Have a wonderful day yall!
Sadie, two cats with their tails tied together. My Daddy told me when he was a young boy, he and someone else( maybe his brother Paul) tied the tails of two tomcats together and hung them over a clothes line. He said you have never seen such a fight and never did say what became of the cats. It would have been a very sad day in their young lives for both of them if their mother (Grandmother) had known about it. He did say he was very sorry, and regretted doing that.
I know a few folks that are just like that. One of them describes it as being over stimulated.
What a descriptive way to say I told someone off! LOL!
Oh boy, somebody got a mouth full!
