I’m sharing another riddle from “Way Down Yonder on Troublesome Creek Appalachian Riddles & Rusties” by James Still.
“Riddle, riddle, randy crow,
I can’t move but here I go;
Two black hands to cover my face,
Key to set my daily pace;
Though I’m one you’ll likely shelve
I can point you twice to twelve.”

The last riddle I shared was from James Still: “Black as midnight, heavy and thick, long flat tail straight as a stick. A few of you got the answer: a cast iron frying pan.

Before I downloaded the Blind Pig for Today, and opened it, I had read the riddle and guessed an old-fashioned wind-up clock! So the answers above were already in my mind before I accessed the post, except as it comes up before clicking onto the site itself! Wow! As several others have said, I’m no good, usually, at riddles, but I got this one! Enjoyed!
A clock.
Can’t believe I know what it is!! A clock!! I am the world’s worst at riddle solving.
Clock! I’m no good at riddles in general.
Wow, I finally got one…..I think it is a Mantle Clock. They had a key to wind them up.
Yep, a clock — not an electric clock, but one that must be wound daily.
I would say a mantle clock or an alarm clock.
Clock is my guess. With the move toward digital, I used to make certain I always had a wind up clock. We had such frequent power outages at one time, and I could always made sure I was on time ’cause Mickey Mouse never let me down.
A clock! I finally got one!
Clock. I am really bad at riddles so smiled whrn I finally got one
A key wound mantel clock?
clock
Tipper–I’m usually too dense to determine the answer to your riddles, but this one has enough clues that, like a clock being right twice daily, I know the answer. It’s a key-wind clock.
Jim Casada
Yep, a clock, specifically a wind up clock.
Reminds me of “The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat” where the clock put its hands before its face.
Mantel clock, anyone?
A clock!
My guess for the riddle answer is a clock.
I too think a clock that needs winding with a key.
