I have heard teeming millions but not a lot. I hear more gazillion, or jillion or a boat load.
Funny I’ve been looking at the Tube on how to get started with honeybees, still on the fence but they are fascinating to me.
Tipper,
And Chitter,
When I was little, I started to go Fishin’ with the boys in my neighborhood. Me and Harold had Bill Martin, Edsel’s boy with us. Ed was a boss at Baker Furniture, before they went out of business, everything went just about out of Business in our little town of Andrews. ( I kinda sound like Johnny Cash, talking to a resident of things being run-down, and the resident straightened him out. )
Anyway, we had Bill Martin with us, and he had told us earlier about nests at his house. We weren’t going to bother anything, just get some Wast Nests. We were getting Wast Nests like crazy, when I spotted one that had about 50 grown Waspers just walkin’ around their Nest like nobody’s business. One of them decided I was on Target, I didn’t have no shirt on, so it was easy pickens. That sucker popped me between the neck and shoulder and knocked me down. He put it in deep, too. My buddies grabbed some mud and put on my neck and shoulder, and in a little while I was alright. …Ken
You all remind me, I did hear ‘blue million’ but it has been awhile. We also said “kajillion”. (But I have never tried to spell it before!)
A whole mess of bees!
Mostly I hear gazillions.
I had yellow jackets get in behind the siding next to my bathroom winder. The gutter above them needed to be fixed. Me and Dusty tried to kill them out on several different days with several different sprays to no avail. Finally after a pitch battle spanning several weeks we were triumphant and fixed the gutter. The next year they returned for more but there was no urgency on my part. I sprayed them whenever I thought about it. I guess they were there to antagonize me and when they saw it wasn’t working they moved on. Haven’t seen ’em since.
Blue million very common. Not certain I have ever heard teeming millions. Teeming always seems to be connected with too much of something usually not wanted. Ron’s list makes me wonder why I love Summer so much with all those stinging and biting insects and weeds. I don’t want to second guess Noah, but I believe there are lots of creatures he could have safely left off his ark without jeopardizing the ecosystem. I am still scratching my head over why rats were a good idea. Now some cities have teeming millions of rats.
Them teeming millions, they’re around, most generally in a kind that spells trouble. Privet, dog fennel, Japanese beetles, Chinese bittersweet, fire ants, Chinese ladybugs, kudzu bugs, Chinese stinkbugs, gnats and chiggers each fit the description. We are just simply outnumbered.
I feel like I’ve heard others say teeming millions but mostly blue millions. Well anyways as my Wife would say that is ooh gobs of bees.
