collage of family

There have been many blessings this year and we are thankful for all of them—especially the two newest members of our family and Granny’s continued good health. From the house we live in to the love that surrounds us there is much to be thankful for at the Pressley house.

Another thing we are thankful for is YOU!

It’s time for my annual Thankful November event.

Every November I host a variety of giveaways as a way of saying THANK YOU to Blind Pig and The Acorn readers. Just in case you didn’t know it, you’re the best blog readers in the whole wide world!

Time goes by so fast I can hardly believe 2024 is nearly over. Seems like we just finished last year’s Thankful November series.

Starting tomorrow there’ll be a variety of giveaways throughout the month so be on the lookout for any that you might like to enter. They are all free to enter and only require you leave a comment to be entered.

Please continue to pray for those trying to get their life back on track after Helene and those who are helping them.

Last night’s video: Fall Garden Tour.

  1. There will be no comments from me throughout the November so that others have a better chance of winning. It is such a sacrifice but I thinking I can do it! Maybe!
This comment don’t count, I’m startin tomar!

  2. Having to leave at 5:50 am this morning to keep my appointment to have my macular degineration shots, I missed my early morning wake up call with that ole ‘Blind Pig’. It usually takes me about 12 hours til I can watch you on here or You Tube on the TV. Having said that, this was a great video and Praise the Lord I am able to see it…getting old or older or elderly is not for the elderly. However, still prayers for Granny and God’s Blessing you your growing family.

  3. The pleasure of your channel, blog posts and emails is your gentle nature that comes through on all your platforms.

  4. Pressley Christmas elves:
    A gentle reminder……
please consider gifting Matt a Wood Splitting drill, manufactured by many on-line companies for Christmas this year.
I know God will continue to bless your amazing, beautiful family.
    Love all of you,
    Janice

  5. Tipper, I am very thankful I found you on YouTube. Your family is warm and caring. I also appreciate the laughter from time to time, too! Thank you for posting the family pictures. I really enjoyed looking at all of them.

  6. Blessings are to numerous to mention so I’ll just say I’m thankful for all!

Everyone have a great 1st day of November!

P.S. I forgot to tell Ed I enjoyed reading his post yesterday!

  7. First I’m thankful to God for touching me in my early teens at a revival and saving me when I asked Him to come into my heart and be my Lord and I just wanted to serve Him. Each morning when I wake up I say thank you Lord for giving me another day, may I use it to serve you!
I’m thankful for my sons, my church, my christian friends and neighbors, and for finding your blog, Tipper, I think back in 2008. Your blog has been refreshing and has brought to mind so many precious memories of Mother, Daddy, Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles. I love Pap and Paul’s singing the old hymns.
I always learn something good in your gardening and cooking so I’m thankful for you, Matt, Corrie, Austin, and Katie. At the end of this video, up jumped a video of Katie’s about a bull. I clicked on it and I must say Katie was led by the Holy Spirit to give a lesson – a very good one. As she was telling the story, she was stopped, came back and explained how the evil one will throw up something to try and stop the person from giving the message, (absolutely true) BUT Katie came back and finished the message. Excellent Katie!!! Your a born teacher.

  8. Tipper, I’m thankful for you and your family. I would’ve never known about this blog if Sarah Loudin Thomas hadn’t mentioned it in one of her newsletters, but I’m glad she did. 🙂 I’m often reminded by reading your blog and watching your videos of so many wonderful, precious, and priceless memories that I have of loved ones and days gone by. It’s feels a lot like going home after a long journey to a place of rest where you’re always welcomed with love and refreshed. ❤
Thank you for all the hard work you put into your blog and videos.

Tipper, also I wanted to ask you a question. After I watched your video yesterday YouTube suggested a video entitled Visiting One With Another and when I tried to view it it said it was for members only. Is this an error or someone trying to make money from your videos? I wasn’t aware there were any costs or charges to watch your videos.

    1. Regina-thank you for the kindness! There is a member area but you’re not missing anything 🙂 I explain why I did it in this video: Membership info https://www.youtube.com/live/7m2Mmw7K3xo?si=5HlywEx-6wOUSt9R&t=921 Basically YouTube gave me a big bonus to do it and several folks wanted me too as well so they could support us. The only videos that are for members only are an occasional live video, but I do a live for everyone every Monday morning 🙂

  9. Morning, Tipper! I love seeing pics of your sweet family, but Granny always puts a smile on my face. Both my grandmas lived half the country away from me growing up. I was in Iowa, one was in Oregon and one was in NC. Rarely saw either for the most part, so I wish Granny was my grandma. Of course, I’m 75 myself so Granny isn’t that much older than me, lol. Love the pics of the girls holding their precious babies!! Next year will be a fun Christmas because they will be walking by then and no doubt reaching for shiny bulbs on a lovely tree! God’s blessings on you all and all of your fans!

  10. How is it November already?? I too have so much to thank God for. I look forward to your blog & videos and the girls videos too. You all have much wisdom, kindness and encouragement to share. I am glad “to know” you all through all of this technology. I enjoy reading the comments, wisdom and experience of others as well. What an amazing impact you have had on so many, it was so interesting to hear all of the statistics in your video the other day about who reads this blog and/ or watches your videos. Thank you for all that you all do to reach so many people every day with joy & happiness but also all of the help and resources you have gathered and shared to help people impacted by Hurricane Helene.

  11. Tipper I am thankful to you! You really helped bring to life the area, customs, and traditions of my Appalachian ancestors. You are just a sweetheart and you and your family seem like kin.

  12. When one gets to where the sand in the hour glass is running low and health challenges seem to grow, one becomes thankful for every morning the Lord wakens you and gives you another day – I am there. I am thankful for my family, scattered near and far, for those who were, and those who now are a part of my life; for the many wonderful memories that warm my heart; for my church family; a warm and comfortable home – I lack nothing – my needs are few; and I am thankful for the daily joy and blessings that the Pressley family brings each day via blogs and videos, and for the love displayed as you all share your lives for all to see. Such a beautiful example of what being family is. I give thanks to each of you for allowing – and inviting – us to be a part of your lives. May the Lord continue to shower you all with blessings each day. Love & hugs sweet Pressley family.

  13. Thank you, Tipper, for all you and your family do to bring so much knowledge about Appalachia to us. From cooking, gardening, the vocabulary, family singing, the pictures of your beautiful mountains that you call home and of course, sweet Granny. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy what you do. I thoroughly enjoyed last night’s fall garden tour and Katie’s video was so moving. You all are such a blessing. Keep on doing what you are doing.

  14. We, as a family, are truly blessed. I know that life is still chaotic and difficult for so many families due to recent storms and we continue to lift all in our prayers that some normalcy will return to their lives in the near future. Our thanks to you and all you share of your family which gives your readership joy, hope, and memories of time past. It makes so many folks day so much better and appreciative of jus’ how good our lives may truly be ……

  15. I am so thankful I found your blog many years ago. I have watched the girls grow up and have babies of their own and prayed for your family when they lost Pap and Miss Cindy and during Granny’s health issues. Reading your blog and watching your videos has become a part of my daily routine as I learn something new or take a trip back in time. Please continue celebrating Appalachia with your readers.

  16. I am forever thankful that I found Tipper’s blog and became part of a “Family” of loyal readers that look forward to every post. I go back and reread them when I have a spare moment and love the videos!! Love and prayers to all of you and Granny, too!

  17. November already! This is an exciting month for me since I get to visit both my girls; that starts off my Thankful November. Love the pic of yours and the new grandbabies.

  18. As I began to stir this morning my first thought was….Good morning, Father, Good morning, Jesus, Good morning Holy Spirit…..thank you for keeping me through the night and giving me another brand new day. Your mercies are new every morning. And I am grateful I am held in Your Hand.

My sister joined the welcoming party in heaven on Monday. I am so so thankful she is in no pain, she can walk unhindered and He walks with me here.

Blessings to all the Pressley family and to all of you, our community celebrating wonderful Appalachia,

  19. Happy Thankful November! I am thankful for all that God has done for me and my family. I’m thankful for your blog and YouTube channel, Tipper.
Most importantly I am thankful for Jesus who is my Lord and Savior, for without Jesus I’d have no hope of eternal life with Father God in heaven.
Prayers continue for all the people affected by the hurricanes.

  20. I started reading your Blog after I found you on your tube channel. What a treasure they both are for me! plus the girls tube channel . I’m 75 and don’t get out much. I have mobility issues. You all bless me every time I watch or read. Thank you. Tipper great job helping get info out for the victims of hurricane Helene. Grammy from Texas

  21. I’m thankful for my new granddaughter, who came into the world this past Monday. I’m thankful to still have my health (not perfect, but functional!), my husband, and my family. I’m thankful and proud to be a citizen of Appalachia, and most of all I am thankful that God loves me enough to have saved me. I don’t deserve any of this.

  22. I’m so thankful my great granddaughter who is only 18 months was was gifted a new heart which her body has accepted. May she continue in good health.

  23. November is a wonderful month to be thankful!! So glad we found your blog and YouTube channel with your stories and life that you all so willingly share with us. Looking forward to more!

  24. I am thankful for many things and people. A few are my husband, children, grandchildren, g-grandchildren, my mother, who is 95 yo is still with us, Christian friends, our church, you Tipper and your family. God tells us to be thankful for everything. 1 Thessalonians 5:18, which states “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” and Psalm 100:4: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” I am thankful that I awakened this morning. After living with an auto-immune disease for fifteen years and taking two high-risk medications, I thank God for having this disease at this time because in the past there was not much to control it, and people did not live long. My husband also has the same disease. I look forward every day to reading your blog and watching your channel, Tipper. It is so refreshing to watch a family who are Christians. In this day and age, you don’t meet many except at Church. You, Matt, Katie, Ira, Corrie, Austin, Woodrow, Granny and Paul are blessings to me. I pray for each one of you daily. I am also praying for those of you on this blog and for those still dealing with the pain and destruction of the hurricane. God Bless you and your family and everyone on this blog.

  25. If God had blessed me with a sister, I would hope she would be someone like you. Just the sound of your voice brings me peace and comfort. I am thankful for this! You never know what people yearn for in life and God gifts us what we need in one way or the other.

  26. What a great idea! When my girls were small, we cut leaves out of construction paper and each day in November we wrote something we were thankful for, then strung them on twine to make a garland. I still have many of those leaves! Once they left for college, though, it fell by the wayside. I think it’s time to figure out how to revive the tradition now that they’re grown and out of the nest. I’m so very thankful that my husband and I still enjoy a very close relationship with them, even though we’re hundreds of miles apart.

  27. Today is my Birthday I’m grateful & thankful for another year of life, but geez it goes by fast! Thank you for
your daily dose of wholesomeness ❤️

  28. I’m thankful for your blog and the daily reminder it is to me of my beloved Granny, who was from Kentucky. Love your wonderful recipes, too! November is the month to remember: our cherished dead, our blessings, and the things that have happened to us that made us who we are. I have so much to be thankful for! Each evening before I go to sleep, I give thanks to God for my warm bed, my comfortable house, my amazing family, my devoted dog…these are the things that make life beautiful! What a blessing to have your two grandsons at the same time, just as you had your daughters. A double blessing.

  29. Good morning all. I am so thankful for this beautiful day. As I look out my kitchen window and see yellow and oranges leaves falling all around—filling the air and covering the ground—it looks like I am inside a fall globe. I began my day reading your blog and having coffee, as I always do. Reading your posts and everyone’s comments during the day makes me feel like I am part of a little hidden community. It’s like when I was a kid and had pen pals. Thanks everyone. Hope your day is special too.

  30. We all have so much to be thankful for. Among so many other things, I’m thankful the Lord led me to Celebrating Appalachia and The Pressley Girls and now this wonderful vlog. They’ve all made such a difference in my life.

  31. I am so thankful that God woke me this morning! I’m thankful for my salvation through Jesus life, death and resurrection, that all who will, may have free salvation! I found you 4 years ago and I read all of your blogs and watch all of you and the girls You Tube videos! Thank you and May God continue to bless you and yours❤❤

  32. I love the picture of the two new mamas with those precious babies. a great song to listen to at this time of year would be Bing Crosby’s I have plenty to be thankful for from the movie Holiday Inn.

    1. Tom, I hadn’t heard of this song before. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m listening to it now and it’s awesome! 🙂

    2. And just like that I’m listening to Bing Crosby’s old Decca recordings and It’s Beginning go Look a Lot Like Christmas! 🙂 I’m not complaining. It’s so comforting on this rainy day here in Kentucky.

  33. I don’t remember when I first discovered you, but I think I was one of your early readers. Your blog is a part of my relaxing morning routine. Peace and prayers.

  34. There is so much to be thankful for and one of those is the Blind Pig and the Acorn – your dedication to preserving the traditions, sayings, crops, music, history, communities, families – God bless you and all of your family.

  35. I love your blog and both yours and the girls videos. Gives me such joy to watch and learn from y’all. I appreciate all of you.

  36. I’m thankful to wake up every morning! Thank God ahead of time! It has only been a month since I found Blind Pig and The Acorn, as well as your YouTube videos. I enjoy watching the whole family take part in keeping to some of the old ways.
Many times I have said to my husband, I’m watching Tipper now, which is code for-don’t interrupt me.
    A Connecticut girl

  37. I am thankful I found your YouTube channel! I enjoy getting to know all your family. It’s good to be reminded of all the things I have to be thankful for! I’m too blessed to be stressed, God is so good to me.

  38. My family has much to be thankful for in these difficult times. I am thankful for the rain we finally got yesterday evening and this morning. Though things seem dire at times, I can almost always see someone who has a much “tougher row to hoe” than I.

    1. Jeffery, it is sometimes hard to look at our problems this way, but usually you don’t have to look very far to see someone with worse problems than you or as you said having “a tougher row to hoe.”

  39. We all are so richly blessed by your posts, Tipper, and it’s a way of staying connected to my mountain roots. Thank you for all you do, all you are and what you mean to each of us!

  40. Yes I sure am thankful for your blog and videos. I have learned a lot and gained much encouragement from you over the last few years since I discovered you!

  41. I am so thankful for you and your family. You will never know how truly blessed I am that I found you and your channel and this blog. I’m sure my husband thinks we are best friends because I talk about you so much. lol

You are so sweet to keep all effected by Helene a part of your blog and videos. I truly can’t imagine what they must be going through each and every day.

    God bless ya’ll!!

    1. Over time on BP&A I have gravitated toward reading the post of the day once early and then again after 6PM when I think everyone will have posted. I see several things in doing that, as I can also see you do as well. One is that there is often a common thread that runs through the comments and it is not necessarily closely related to the post title or picture. Another that I have seen before and now again today is how you react to individuals with congratulations, sympathy, thanks or encouragement. You have a kind heart which gets bruised sometimes I know by naysayers. I also know you have a loyalty to us that from time. to time can be a burden. Thank you for all of that. I won’t claim to be the best blog reader in the whole wide world but I’ll take your word for it that I am a member of the group that is. We may each need one another all the more very soon.

  42. Tipper, I am thankful that I can read your blog every morning while drinking my first cup of coffee. I am thankful that you share your family and life stories from Appalachia. Growing up in Asheville and moving to Gastonia, (where Granny lived for a time), I am a faithful subscriber.

  43. How very exciting! Happy November, I can hardly believe we are here already. God bless you and every member of your family. You all brighten my day each day❤️❤️❤️!

  44. I think this morning makes five weeks since Helene. We have not had one drop of rain in these weeks, it is just like all of the moisture was sucked out. But when I am out and about, I still see many homes or buildings that have not yet been repaired, so no rain is a blessing for these people. Tipper you mentioned appreciating us, I for one appreciate you, your family and especially listening to the old time hymns being sung by Pap, Paul, Chitter and Chatter.
