“Just get aholt and hang on. That’s all I can tell you. And if you do, you know what? You’ll be glad you did.”

My maiden name is Holt. My husband’s brother who had Down’s Syndrome and who also enjoyed teasing me, would often say, “Grab a Holt” whenever he saw me.
So very sweet 🙂
Tipper, you are very kind and sweet natured, but you seem alittle depressed or sad to me.
🙂 Carol, thank you for you concern for me. That is so very kind. I’m neither sad nor depressed, but I am sometimes thoughtful and reserved.
Thanks to all of you for good belly laugh. Yep, heard and said that my whole life but never saw it written about!
LOL!
That’s something we say a lot in our family along with “grab a holt.”
praying for Matt’s dad and all of the family
Sounds like somebody’s about to get a tooth pulled!
That reminds me of the story of a “stout or overly plump” lady that fell and her very small husband needing help to get her up. Another fellow offered to help but didn’t want to touch her in an area that might cause embarrassment to anyone. He asked, “Where should I take aholt of her?” The husband said, “Just anywhere you can get a firm grip. All of her has gotta come up.”
It’s the other way around at our house. I fell Monday and my 105 lb. wife had to get the neighbors to get me up.
Sounds like somebody is about to hit some rapids somewhere along the Little Tennessee. Could be the Nantahala if you are fool enough to brave frigid water from the bottom of a lake. Or maybe the Tuckaseegee with it’s frothy brown Starbucks water.
rain is in the vicinity of North Georgia, Dahlonega Georgia, tonight’s low will be in the 30s, God bless you friends have a great day
I have heard that one before. In my family they often said it with a ‘d’ instead of ‘t’. But I have heard “Here, grab ahold of this thing and help me.” many times growing up.
Wishing all a blessed weekend!
Aholt is a primary word in my family. “ help me get aholt of this”; did you get aholt of them on the phone”? etc.
Some of the best advice I ever overheard!
Oh yeah. My grandson says it too.
A fellar who’d just got out of the hospital once jokingly told me, “If a doctor tells you something is going to be mildly uncomfortable, you’d better get a holt of something stout and hang on!”.
Jeffery, the feller’s comment reminds me of my father in law, he had nicknamed one of his doctors “ Dr. Bendover” grab aholt of something and hang on!
Now you have me stumped.I can’t honestly say which way I would say that idea; ‘ahold’ or ‘aholt’. But I’m thinking ‘ahold’. I seem to recall Mr. Darlin’ saying something similar to Andy when they were up at the Darlin’ cabin….. Anybody ever tell any of you all playing something like that. And I will say I got ahold of the Lord (and He got ahold of me) many years ago and I’m glad we each did. You got me thinking again. I may have to run some references on that.
