  1. It was 50 degrees here at noon so I went out and worked in the yard and garden for a couple of hours. I sweated for at least 75 percent of that time. When Summer comes I will probably sweat sitting in the shade.

  2. Now I am wondering what medicine that might have been. There was a lot of strange instructions back in the day with the old medicines. It used to be very common to have to give children worm medicine. I recall my mom and others say the doctor said to make sure they did not drink water after the child took worm medicine. This goes way back even before my time, and I am no spring chicken. It was often said of a little aunt that the old country doc had given her worm med and that she sneaked up from her bed and drank water. Another said she had died from ‘’croup.’’ Years later in studying genealogy, I found cause of death was Broncho Pneumonia as complication of Pertussis. This would have been 1929. Hard days for a child to try to grow up.

  3. We never had beans in the cornfields. We did grow up to 20 acres of pole-beans and maybe a few times on the Harshaw farm. It was hot in the fields, and one needed to wear log sleeve shirts to protect you from the leaves and sweat bees. Also, long sleeves were required for picking corn. Picking beans was a social event and one got to see young kids from the area. I enjoyed those days.

  4. I sweat ever time I’m out in the garden working and in mid summer all I have to do is walk outside in the heat of the day and I sweat…lol….I guess I’m spoiled to air conditioning.

  5. Leaves country folks out pretty much if you can’t sweat. Have to stop and think of something that could fit, maybe just go fishing. Must have had for real cornfield beans. Wish I had some.
