solve learning riddles from appalachia

I’m sharing another riddle from Way Down Yonder on Troublesome Creek Appalachian Riddles & Rusties by James Still.

Nobody under the shining courts of heaven has seen it,
It can whistle but can’t talk;
It can make you cry and dry your eye.

The last riddle I shared was from from Way Down Yonder on Troublesome Creek Appalachian Riddles & Rusties by James Still.

At three months of age it has a full set of teeth and golden hair. At six months it is snaggle-toothed and bald-headed.

Several folks got this one: an ear of corn.

  1. Not good at riddles but no one seeing it gave it away. Realized it must be the wind. Like somebody said, this one must be easy.

  2. I thought it was the wind b/c it whistles around the corners or in trees, “who has seen the wind, neither you nor I” and it makes my eyes water in the cold winter. I saw as I was posting this that several others have already guessed that.

  3. The wind?

Thoroughly enjoyed last night’s reading. Can’t wait to find out what happens next.

I agree with Brenda T. I enjoy all the videos, but the Mother’s Day ones were so special, and the one Corie put out yesterday touched my heart. You and Matt have raised two wonderful daughters. Now with little Ira here and Austin and Corie’s little man coming soon, what a blessed family you have!! It’s just wonderful to see how all of you care so much for each other!

  4. The wind. My mom told me this riddle long ago. It brings back such memories to hear it again.
    Thanks.

  5. Good morning Tipper. I think it sound like the wind. Anyway, that’s my guess.

I just loved, loved the reading last evening. This book is wonderful. I cannot wait to hear what happens next. I have really enjoyed all of your videos and the Pressley girls videos lately—especially the Mother’s Day ones—you were all so sweet and thoughtful to each other. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

  6. Is it the wind? I love windy days. Warm or cool wind is so relaxing it sit and think about God in heaven who made it all.

  7. Hi Tipper, I love all your post and watch every video you put out. Love all them. I was reading a post some where that says there is a superstition in the Appalachian mountains about whistling in woods after dark is not good. Can you tell me more about it if you have ever heard this?

  8. The wind?

Hope everyone’s Saturday is fun, relaxing, productive…whatever you need it to be.

    Thanks, Tipper.

  9. I don’t think I guessed the last one right, but glad others did.
